Leland, in coastal North Carolina:  Just across the rivers (Cape Fear and Brunswick) lies a land of opportunity and promise.

Named after the son of the local Postmaster years ago, Leland has slept in the shadow of the historical city of Wilmington for many years…

Recently Leland, now known as the “Gateway” to beautiful Brunswick County is ”morphing” to the new Bruswick Town it is destined to become.

New housing developements, shopping centers and civic centers will soon rival the streets of downtown Wilmington in friendly competition for business, recreation and retirement making places like Brunswick Forest, Magnolia Greens, Waterford, Westport, Mallory Creek and many other neighborhoods the choice for active people from all over.

Just a little encouragment in some areas of general “housekeeping” will have people sitting up and taking notice…

Imagine highways with neatly trimed and flowering vista’s flowing through the area…Sidewalks and river walks for people to prominade on…Clean parks and boat ramps for recreation with small boats.

Of course, there will be new schools, ball fields, civic auditoriums and churches for “One nation under God”

If this is your vision as it is mine, come to Leland and spend some time.  We have a brand new hotel with swimming pool, a bowling alley around the corner and other hotels and entertainment centers either currently being built or on the drawing boards.

Don’t blink! this is all happening fast and getting in on the “ground floor” may be just what the doctor ordered.

Revelation

Escape the Coming Wrath!

Lesson 23           Chapter 14:14-20           The Coming Judgment of the World!

1. Read verses 14-20.

  •
Jesus’ first coming was one of humiliation, a time when He “although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross” (Phil 2:6-8).
  •
Jesus came the first time as a servant; He will return as the sovereign King. In His first coming, He came in humility; in His second coming, He will come in majesty and splendor. The first time He came to earth, “the son of Man [came] to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10); when He returns, it will be to “judge the living and the dead” (II Tim. 4:1). Jesus came the first time as the sower; He will come again as the reaper.1
  •
    1. Read Genesis 15:16. The sin of the Amorites included child sacrifice, idolatry, religious prostitution and divination. God was patient with the Canaanites (Amorites) even in judgment. What do you think it means for sin to “reach its full measure?”

  •
    1. Read James 1:13-15.

  •
    1.
      1. Does God tempt us?

  •
    1.
      1. What do we have within us that causes us to give in to temptation (Jeremiah 17:9)?

  •
    1.
      1. What is the end result of “full grown” sin?

  •
    1. Read Genesis 1:15-17; 3:1-19; and, Genesis 5.

  •
    1.
      1. Describe the three stages of man’s rebellion—desire, sin, death—as pictured in Eve’s sin.

  •
    1.
      1. What was the end result of Adam and Eve disobeying God (Gen. 5)?

  •
    1. Read Genesis 6:5-7. From these two verses we see the extent of God’s grief over mankind’s sin.

  •
    1.
      1. From this chapter, what was the result of man’s rebellion against God?

  •
    1.
      1. Read Genesis 9:8-17. What sign has God given to the world to remind us of both His mercy and His judgment?

  •
    1. Read Romans 1:18-32. Here God gives us a picture of the downward spiral of sin. In your own words, describe this downward spiral from knowing of God’s existence (verses 19-21) to total depravity (verses28-32).

  •
    1. Read Romans 2:1. Are any of us in a position to judge others? Why or why not?

  •
    1. Read Romans 3:10-18. Describe the totality of man’s sin.

  •
    1. Read Romans 3:23. Who is guilty?

  •
    1. Read Romans 6:23. What do we all deserve?

  •
    1. Read Joel 3:12-13 along with Matthew 13:39-42. What is being described in these verses?

  •
    1. Back to Revelation 14. Who does John see “seated on the cloud [who] was one ‘like a son of man’” (Daniel 7:13)?

  •
The familiar phrase I looked, and behold often introduces a new and important subject in Revelation (cf. 4:1; 6:2, 5, 8; 7:9; 14:1). What caught John’s attention was a white cloud, an image drawn from Daniel 7:13–14:
  •
“I kept looking in the night visions,
  •
And behold, with the clouds of heaven
  •
One like a Son of Man was coming,
  •
And He came up to the Ancient of Days
  •
            And was presented before Him.
  •
And to Him was given dominion,
  •
            Glory and a kingdom,
  •
That all the peoples, nations and men of every language
  •
            Might serve Him.
  •
His dominion is an everlasting dominion
  •
            Which will not pass away;
  •
            And His kingdom is one
  •
            Which will not be destroyed.”
  •
John saw sitting on the cloud one like a son of man—the Lord Jesus Christ, coming to establish His kingdom in fulfillment of Daniel’s prophecy. The brilliant, white cloud symbolizes His glory and majesty (cf. 1:7; Matt. 17:5; 24:30; 26:64; Acts 1:9). He is ready to take the dominion of which Daniel prophesied; the reaper is sitting as He waits for the proper time to stand and begin the reaping. That reaping (the seven bowl judgments) will be followed by Christ’s return to establish His kingdom.
  •
The description of Christ as one like a son of man also derives from Daniel’s prophecy (Dan. 7:13). It was the Lord’s favorite title for Himself during His incarnation (e.g., Matt. 8:20; 9:6; 24:27, 30; Mark 2:10, 28; 8:31; 9:9; Luke 6:22; 7:34; 9:22; 12:8; John 5:27; 6:27, 62; 8:28), when He “emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and [was] made in the likeness of men … [and was] found in appearance as a man” (Phil. 2:7–8). Why the text does not use the definite article and read the son of man is not clear. Yet the phrase also appears without a definite article in its only other appearance in Revelation (1:13). Perhaps the article was omitted to strengthen the allusion to Daniel 7:13. In any case, there is no doubt that the one like a son of man is the Lord Jesus Christ. This is the last time Scripture refers to Him by that title, and it presents a marked contrast with the first time the New Testament calls Him the son of man. Then He had nothing, not even a place to lay His head (Matt. 8:20); now He is about to take possession of the entire earth.
  •
The reaper is further described as having a golden crown on His head. This crown is not the diadēma worn by a king (cf. 19:12), but the stephanos worn by victors in war or athletic events; it is the crown of triumph (cf. 2:10; 1 Cor. 9:25; 1 Thess. 2:19; 2 Tim. 4:8; James 1:12; 1 Pet. 5:4). It pictures the Son of Man not in His identity as the sovereign ruler, but as the triumphant conqueror victorious over all His enemies (cf. Matt. 24:30).
  •
The reaper also had a sharp sickle in His hand. A sickle was a long, curved, razor-sharp iron blade attached to a long, broomsticklike wooden handle. Sickles were used to harvest grain; as they were held with both hands spread apart and swept back and forth, their sharp blades would cut off the grain stalks at ground level. The picture is of the Lord Jesus Christ mowing down His enemies like a harvester cutting grain.2
  •
    1. Why is He carrying a sickle?

  •
A sickle was a long, curved, razor-sharp iron blade attached to a long, broomsticklike wooden handle. Sickles were used to harvest grain; as they were held with both hands spread apart and swept back and forth, their sharp blades would cut off the grain stalks at ground level.3

      (m) Read Acts 17:29-31.

  •
    •
      1. What does God command everyone to do?

  •
    •
      1. What does it mean to repent?

  •
    •
      1. Who will judge the world one day?

  1.
    1. There are two harvests suggested in verses 14-20. The first is the “grain harvest.” The second is the “grape harvest.” In verse 15, MacArthur notes, “the verb translated is ripe actually means ‘dried up,’ ‘withered,’ ‘overripe,’ or ‘rotten.’ The grain (the earth) pictured here has passed the point of any usefulness and is fit only to be ‘gathered up and burned with fire’” (Matt. 13:40). Thus, when Jesus swings the sickle over the earth do you think this is the ingathering of His children or does it refer to coming judgment? Explain your reasoning.

  •
“The harvest is ripe!” (vv. 14–20) The Person pictured here on the white cloud is undoubtedly our Lord Jesus Christ (see Dan. 7:13–14; Rev. 1:13). We have had the image of the cup, and now we have the image of the harvest, both of the grain (Rev. 14:14–16) and of the grape (Rev. 14:17–20). Again, this anticipates the final judgment of the world.
  •
While winning lost souls to Christ is sometimes pictured as a harvest (John 4:34–38), this image is also used of God’s judgment (Matt. 13:24–30, 36–43; Luke 3:8–17). God permits the seeds of iniquity to grow until they are ripe, and then He judges (Gen. 15:16).
  •
The grape harvest is often a picture of judgment (see Joel 3:13ff, which anticipates the Day of the Lord). In actuality, Scripture portrays three different “vines.” Israel was God’s vine, planted in the land to bear fruit for God’s glory; but the nation failed God and had to be cut down (Ps. 80:8–16; Isa. 5:1–7; see also Matt. 21:33–46). Today, Christ is the Vine and believers are branches in Him (John 15). But the world system is also a vine, “the vine of the earth” in contrast to Christ, the heavenly Vine; and it is ripening for judgment. The wicked system—Babylon—that intoxicates people and controls them, will one day be cut down and destroyed in “the winepress of the wrath of God.”
  •
Some see in this image an anticipation of the “battle of Armageddon,” when the armies of the world will gather against Jerusalem (Zech. 14:1–4; Rev. 16:16). Certainly, John is using hyperbole when he describes a river of blood four feet deep and 200 miles long (see also Isa. 63:1–6). Today, God is speaking to the world in grace, and men will not listen. One day hence, He must speak in wrath. The bitter cup will be drunk, the harvest of sin reaped, and the vine of the earth cut down and cast into the winepress.4

  1.
    1. The angel in verse 18 comes from the altar. Who is under the altar and for what have they been calling out (Rev. 6:9-11)?

  1.
    1. Clearly the grape harvest mentioned in verses 17-20 refers to coming judgment. To what event might this refer (Joel 3:1-2, 11-13; Revelation 16:16; 19:11-21)?

  •
Here is one of the most tragic and sobering statements in all of Scripture. Simply, and without fanfare, it records the executing of divine judgment. The frightening details of that judgment are unfolded in chapter 16: loathsome and malignant sores on the worshipers of Antichrist (v. 2), the death of all life in the world’s oceans (v. 3), the turning of the world’s rivers and springs of water into blood (v. 4), the intensifying of the sun’s heat until it scorches people (v. 8), painful darkness over all of Antichrist’s kingdom (v. 10), the drying up of the Euphrates River in preparation for a massive invasion by the kings of the east (v. 12), and the most powerful and destructive earthquake in history (v. 18). Those seven rapid-fire bowl judgments mark the first phase of the final reaping of the earth…
  •
As John watched, another angel appeared, the sixth one in the vision. He is given the interesting designation of the one who has power over fire. That title is closely connected with the fact that he came out from the altar. This heavenly altar has already been mentioned in 6:9–11:
  •
    •
When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained; and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, would be completed also.
  •
It most likely is emblematic of the Old Testament brass incense altar (Ex. 40:5), where twice daily priests burned incense to be offered in the Holy Place as a picture of the people’s prayers, since the martyrs underneath it are viewed praying and prayer is associated with incense (5:8; Ps. 141:2; Luke 1:10). Those martyred saints are praying for God to take vengeance on their tormenters and send His wrath.
This altar is also described in 8:3–5:
  •
    •
Another angel came and stood at the altar, holding a golden censer; and much incense was given to him, so that he might add it to the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, went up before God out of the angel’s hand. Then the angel took the censer and filled it with the fire of the altar, and threw it to the earth; and there followed peals of thunder and sounds and flashes of lightning and an earthquake.
  •
Every morning and evening the Old Testament priests would take hot coals from the brazen altar (upon which sacrifices were offered) and bring them to the incense altar. There they would ignite the incense (Ex. 30:7–8; 2 Chron. 29:11), which would rise toward heaven, symbolizing the prayers of God’s people (5:8). At that same time, the people outside would be praying (Luke 1:10).
  •
That the angel had power over the altar’s fire (the definite article is present in the Greek text, which literally reads “the fire”) indicates that he had been ministering at the heavenly counterpart to the earthly incense altar. Unlike the angel in verse 17, this angel does not come from the throne of God, but from the altar associated with the prayers of the saints. His appearance means that the time had come for those prayers to be answered. The time had come for God to take fire associated with intercession and use it for the destruction of His enemies and the enemies of His people.
  •
Leaving the altar, he called with a loud, urgent, commanding voice to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, “Put in your sharp sickle and gather the clusters from the vine of the earth, because her grapes are ripe.” In answer to the saints’ prayers, the time for the reaping of judgment comes. Unrepentant sinners are depicted as clusters of grapes, to be cut off by the reaper’s sharp sickle from the vine of the earth; that is, from earthly existence. The word ripe is not the same Greek word used in verse 15. This word refers to something fully ripe and in its prime. It pictures earth’s wicked, unregenerate people as bursting with the juice of wickedness and ready for the harvest of righteousness…
  •
All the enemies of God who survive the seven bowl judgments will be gathered like grape clusters from the vine of the earth and flung into the great wine press of the wrath of God. A wine press consisted of two stone basins connected by a trough. Grapes would be trampled in the upper basin, and the juice would collect in the lower one. The splattering of the juice as the grapes are stomped vividly pictures the splattered blood of those who will be destroyed (cf. Isa. 63:3; Lam. 1:15; Joel 3:13).
  •
The wine press will be trodden outside the city, as the Lord protects Jerusalem from the carnage of the Battle of Armageddon (cf. 11:2; Dan. 11:45; Zech. 14:1-4). That battle will take place in the north of Israel on the Plain of Esdraelon near Mount Megiddo (about sixty miles north of Jerusalem). It will rage the entire length of Israel as far south as Bozrah in Edom (cf. Isa. 63:1). Jerusalem will be spared to become the capital of Christ’s kingdom.5
  •
      (f)   What is the condition of the grapes? What does their condition imply (Gen. 15:16)?

  •
      (g) The angle swung his sickle and gathered in the grapes and they were thrown into the great winepress of God’s wrath. Read Revelation 19:15-16.
  •
      1. What does the winepress symbolize?
  •
      2. Who will be treading it?
  •
      3. How does this influence your concept of the love of God? Explain how    judgment and wrath are actually an aspect of the love of God.

  •
    1. Read I Thessalonians 1:10. How can you avoid the coming judgment?

  •
Unregenerate humanity faces a frightening future, as this incredible scene indicates. Those who refuse to repent, even after repeated warnings, will learn firsthand the sobering truth that “it is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Heb. 10:31). They would do well to heed the psalmist’s admonition:
  •
    •
Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry,
  •
    •
      •
and you perish in the way,
  •
    •
For His wrath may soon be kindled.
  •
    •
How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!

The great peasant revolt of 2010

BY CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER
07/02/2010 21:26

The belief in moral hollowness of conservatism animates the current liberal mantra that Republican opposition is blind obstructionism.

Talkbacks (1)

‘I am not an ideologue,” protested President Barack Obama at a gathering with Republican House members two weeks ago. Perhaps, but he does have a tenacious commitment to a set of political convictions.

Compare his 2010 State of the Union to his first address to Congress a year earlier. The consistency is remarkable. In 2009, after passing a $787 billion (now $862 billion) stimulus package, the largest spending bill in galactic history, he unveiled a manifesto for fundamentally restructuring the commanding heights of American society – health care, education and energy.

A year later, after stunning Democratic setbacks in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts, Obama gave a stay-the-course State of the Union address (a) pledging not to walk away from health care reform, (b) seeking to turn college education increasingly into a federal entitlement and (c) asking again for cap-and-trade energy legislation. Plus, of course, another stimulus package, this time renamed a “jobs bill.” This being a democracy, don’t the Democrats see that clinging to this agenda will march them over a cliff? Don’t they understand Massachusetts?

Well, they understand it through a prism of two cherished axioms: (1) The people are stupid and (2) Republicans are bad. Result? The dim, led by the malicious, vote incorrectly.

Liberal expressions of disdain for the intelligence and emotional maturity of the electorate have been, post-Massachusetts, remarkably unguarded. New York Times columnist Charles Blow chided Obama for not understanding the necessity of speaking “in the plain words of plain folks,” because the people are “suspicious of complexity.” Counseled Blow: “The next time he gives a speech, someone should tap him on the ankle and say, ‘Mr. President, we’re down here.’”

Time magazine blogger was even more blunt about the ankle-dwelling mob, explaining that we are “a nation of dodos” that is “too dumb to thrive.”

Obama joined the parade in the State of the Union address when, with supercilious modesty, he chided himself “for not explaining it [health care] more clearly to the American people.” The subject, he noted, was “complex.” The subject, it might also be noted, was one to which the master of complexity had devoted 29 speeches. Perhaps he did not speak slowly enough.

Then there are the emotional deficiencies of the masses. Nearly every Democratic apologist lamented the people’s anger and anxiety, a free-floating agitation that prevented them from appreciating the beneficence of the social agenda the Democrats are so determined to foist upon them.

THAT BRINGS us to Part II of the liberal conceit: Liberals act in the public interest, while conservatives think only of power, elections, self-aggrandizement and self-interest.

It is an old liberal theme that conservative ideas, being red in tooth and claw, cannot possibly emerge from any notion of the public good. A 2002 New York Times obituary for philosopher Robert Nozick explained that the strongly libertarian implications of Nozick’s masterwork, Anarchy, State and Utopia, “proved comforting to the right, which was grateful for what it embraced as philosophical justification.” The right, you see, is grateful when a bright intellectual can graft some philosophical rationalization onto its thoroughly base and self-regarding politics.

This belief in the moral hollowness of conservatism animates the current liberal mantra that Republican opposition to Obama’s social democratic agenda – which couldn’t get through even a Democratic Congress and powered major Democratic losses in New Jersey, Virginia and Massachusetts – is nothing but blind and cynical obstructionism.

By contrast, Democratic opposition to George W. Bush – from Iraq to Social Security reform – constituted dissent. And dissent, we were told at the time, including by candidate Obama, is “one of the truest expressions of patriotism.”

No more. Today, dissent from the governing orthodoxy is nihilistic malice. “They made a decision,” explained David Axelrod, “they were going to sit it out and hope that we failed, that the country failed” – a perfect expression of liberals’ conviction that their aspirations are necessarily the country’s, that their idea of the public good is the public’s, that their failure is therefore the nation’s.

Then comes Massachusetts, an election Obama himself helped nationalize, to shatter this most self-congratulatory of illusions.

For liberals, the observation that “the peasants are revolting” is a pun. For conservatives, it is cause for uncharacteristic optimism. No matter how far the ideological pendulum swings in the short term, in the end the bedrock common sense of the American people will prevail.

The ankle-dwelling populace pushes back. It re-centers. It renormalizes. Even in Massachusetts.

A Messianic Ministry Based on Mt Carmel
Address:

David’s Comment: Let’s Call a Spade “a Spade” – Time For ‘Profiling’
On Christmas Day yet another demented Muslim attempted to blow up a commercial aircraft carry 300 passengers.  Were it not for the terrorist’s comical incompetence, 2009 could have ended with the disastrous loss of the lives of 300 innocent people and the US $100 million plus Airbus 330 that they were flying on.  Almost immediately a number of agencies began an investigation into how a young Muslim man whose name was on several watch lists, was able to board the aircraft without the explosive devise he had concealed in his underwear being discovered by security checks we all have to endure.  It has since been revealed that he tried to board the flight without a valid passport, which begs the question, ” how on earth was he allowed into any airport departure lounge without a valid passport ?  You and I couldn’t travel with out a valid passport, so how is that a suspicious young Muslim terrorist can ?

Oops !!!  Now I am in big trouble.   In these days of criminally stupid political correctness it is almost illegal to use the words Muslim / Islam and terrorist in the same sentence.  In some US states I could go to prison for doing so. This stupidness began when Political Correctness replaced free speech and President Bush, Barack Obama, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and other political compromisers declared Islam to be a ‘religion of peace and love’.  This blind foolishness now has President Obama identifying the al-Qaeda-trained Islamist terrorist who tried to blow up the airliner over Detroit as an ‘isolated extremist.

Its time to call a spade  “a spade” !  Almost every trouble spot on planet Earth today has Muslims on one side of it. Almost every act of blooded terror is carried out by adherents of the Muslim faith.  You don’t have to be a rocker scientist or brain surgeon to come to the realisation that the most efficient and cost effective way to ensure our security at our airports and other places where crowds gather is to engage in a process that is called Profiling.  This method of preventative security has been perfected by the Israeli security sector.  That should come as no surprise as Israel has been the No 1 target for terrorists foe over 100 years now, so as you would expect, the Israelis have security down to a fine art.  And Profiling is a key dynamic of the Israeli success story.

What exactly is profiling ?   Terrorism statistics show facts like the average age, gender, religion, country of origin and social situation of the people who have carried out or who planned to engage in acts of terrorism.  These facts show clearly that the people most likely to be planning to blow up the aircraft that you are preparing to fly in are 20 – 30 year old Muslim males who live in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Sudan, Yemen, and even the UK.   Without using up too many brain cells it seems logical and efficient to treat all travellers fitting this description as potential terrorists and check them accordingly.

In many countries profiling is deemed racist and in contravention of a persons human rights.  But I ask you what about the human rights of the other innocent passengers to travel without the risk of being blown out of the sky ?  Here in Israel all passengers are thoroughly screened at the entrance to the departure hall and if anyones answers place them in a profile that is suspect, then they are thoroughly searched ( even strip-searched if deemed necessary ) to be 100% sure that the person poses no danger to the other passengers or aircraft or ship.

Are certain racial groups ‘picked-on’ ?   -  Sure  they are

Are some innocent people subjected to this kind of scrutiny  ?  -  Sure they are

Are the rest of the passengers safer ?   Absolutley YES  !  El Al has been the safest airline to travel on since drastic security and profiling was introduced after a number of El Al aircraft were hi-hacked by the PLO and other Muslim Arab terror groups.  Many people fly on El Al, even at a higher price, because of the safety factor created by the intense security and profiling.

I travel by air extensively and yes the security does get frustrating, but I grin and bear it and I often try to calm down other passengers who get upset by the security measures.  When I tell them that  few minutes of inconvenience are preferable to being killed in a terror attack, most people do realise I am right and calm down.  What is ludicrous is when old people or mothers with babies, who are the furtherest away from the terrorist profile,  are treated the same as a 25 year old Pakistani Muslim male, because of the fear of being accused of profiling.  I have even heard of mothers having to drink from every one of their babies milk bottles, to prove that it is milk inside and not some explosive chemical.

Come on world -  WAKE UP !    We are not living in the days of Tom Sawyer anymore.  The world changed dramatically after Israel’s miraculous victory in the Six Day War of 1967.  That is when modern terrorism came of age and the danger has been steadily increasing ever since.   Lets save lives and minimalise the inconvenience to innocent people by following the Israeli example, and assist our security personel to function effectively by allowing them to utilising passenger profiling.

Lets call a spade a ’spade’  -  Islam is a menace to the rest of the World and profiling will make the World a safer place !

The Lord bless you as you bless Israel by standing in defense of her right to exist on the land given to the Jewish people by the God of Israel.  Lets pray that Israel will turn back to their God.  Do not be silent, but share this with your fellow Christians, share it with your pastors, and with anyone you have a chance to speak to. Lets also pray for that breakthrough to the Muslims,  and please remember to pray for all of the soldiers in the IDF -they are defending and fighting for the Kingdom of God.

THIS WEEKS NEWS REPORTS

1.  Palestinians Present Deceptive New Conditions For Talks With Israel   Israel Today News   Feb 1st
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday slightly altered his preconditions for peace talks with Israel by telling London’s Guardian newspaper that he will return to the negotiating table if Israel implements an immediate 3-month halt to all Jewish construction in Judea, Samaria and the eastern side of Jerusalem.  Previously, Abbas had demanded that Israel freeze all Jewish construction in those areas indefinitely.  The announcement effectively puts the ball back in Israel’s court, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to either come up with an acceptable counter, or be branded an obstacle to peace for refusing to meet with the international community views as a reasonable demand by Abbas.
In reality, if met, Abbas’ new demand would effectively end Jewish building in the areas listed above, including much of Jerusalem. While Abbas sweetened the offer by saying it would only be for three months, he knows well that if talks resume, the international community won’t let Israel resume building even if the Palestinians remain non-compliant with their obligations.  By meeting the new demand, Netanyahu would also effectively be surrendering Israel’s claim to the eastern half of Jerusalem, making it nearly impossible for him to insist that the holy city remain undivided and under Israeli sovereignty.   Netanyahu has already implemented a temporary 10-month building freeze in Judea and Samaria that many in Israel fear has set a precedent that cannot be reversed.
Please pray that PM Netanyahu will refuse these conditions

2. Israelis No Longer Trust Palestinians to Make Peace   Israel Today News  Feb 1st
The “peace” wave that swept through Israel more than a decade ago and converted many to the idea of “land-for-peace” is now officially over, according to the results of a public opinion poll published last Thursday.   Conducted on behalf of the official Knesset television station, the survey revealed that an overwhelming 79 percent of Israelis no longer believe it is possible to achieve true peace with their peace partners in the Palestinian Authority.  Nearly as many respondents (76 percent) said they don’t believe “moderate” Palestinian leaders Mahmoud Abbas and Salam Fayyad even want to make peace.
In response to the poll’s results and the clear revelation that Israelis no longer trust the Palestinian Authority, many have begun to question why Israel’s democratically-elected government is going to such pains to entice Abbas back to the negotiating table. The answer, of course, as most Israelis know, is foreign diplomatic pressure. Most Israelis today view the land-for-peace formula as flawed, as well as the decision to prop up the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) as the sole representative of the Palestinians and therefore Israel’s peace partner. That decision was made despite the fact that the PLO had succeeded in killing more Jews than any movement since the Nazis ruled in Germany.
Please pray that even more Israelis, particulalry the left wing liberals will also wake up to this truth

3.  Berlusconi Doubts Wisdom of Gaza Pullout   Ha Aretz News   Feb 1st
Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi hinted in an interview published Sunday that the Gaza pullout (“Disengagement”) was a mistake, noting that it ended in “burned synagogues” and missiles being fired into Israel.  Berlusconi arrives in Israel Monday for a three-day visit. He will be accompanied by eight Italian cabinet ministers, who will for the first time participate in a joint cabinet meeting with the Israeli cabinet.  The meeting will also highlight bilateral cooperation in the fields of science, technology and culture. A special conference will be held bringing together leaders of Italian business, industry and science and their Israeli counterparts. Three laboratories that were funded by the Italians will be dedicated in the course of the visit.
Speaking to Haaretz regarding the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, Berlusconi criticized Jewish growth in Judea and Samaria: “Israel’s settlement policy could be an obstacle to peace. I would like to say to the people and government of Israel, as a friend, with my hand on my heart, that persisting with this policy is a mistake. I welcomed Prime Minister [Binyamin] Netanyahu’s courage in his announcement of a 10-month [Jewish residential settlement construction] freeze. It will never be possible to convince the Palestinians of Israel’s good intentions while Israel continues to build in territories that are to be returned as part of a peace agreement.”  Berlusconi added, however, that “at the same time, what happened in Gaza should prompt some thought. It is not [acceptable for Israel] to evacuate communities [and then have to] face burned synagogues, acts of destruction, and inter-Palestinian violence and missiles being shot into Israeli territory.”
Please pray that other world leaders will also come to the same conclusion & support Israel’s right to live in the land

4.  Ramping Up  For War    The Omega Letter Intelligence Digest  Feb 3rd
There’s something strange taking place in the Middle East. All the signs are pointing toward an imminent outbreak of hostilities against Israel. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was quoted Sunday as saying that Iran will deliver a harsh blow to “global arrogance” on February 11.  It is not clear whether he’s referring to the ongoing demonstrations in Tehran.  Iran’s opposition group, called the “Green Way“, has also designated February 11 as the day Iranians demand the rights back as citizens.   Whatever the February 11 date signifies, it is worth noting that the US has just ordered Patriot missiles dispatched to the area. Four countries, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait will be receiving the missiles.
Washington also has two ships in the Gulf capable of shooting down Iranian missiles. US officials say the move is aimed at deterring an attack by Iran and at reassuring Gulf states that the US will protect them against Iranian missiles.  In addition, US intelligence has gathered detailed war plans drawn up by Iran, Syria, Hezbollah, and Hamas that the US has already shared with Israel. The plan calls for five Hezbollah brigades to sweep down into northern Israel and sees five sectors in the Galilee as part of a general Israeli-Arab uprising against the Jewish state.  Debka reports that Iranian Revolutionary Guard instructors at specially established training facilities near Tehran are already well advanced in training those Hezbollah fighters. Debka-File has even published a battle map showing the objective of each brigade complete with detailed topographical and demographic studies.
The entire scenario seems to be confirmed by reports of two explosives-packed containers that was washed onto beaches in Ashdod and Ashkelon just north of Gaza. Iran had previously used floating barrels dropped by merchant vessels at prearranged locations to deliver explosives to their Palestinian surrogates in Gaza.  These containers may well have washed up on the beaches as a result of miscalculation the current.
One thing is certain — something is up.  But what?
Please pray that when war does come, the Lord of Hosts will go to battle against Israel’s enemies

5.  US  Intelligence Finds 5,000 Hizballah Trained to Seize Galilee Towns   DEBKAfile Special Expose Feb 1
Solid US intelligence gathered over months on detailed war plans finds that Iran, Syria, Hizballah and Hamas have drawn up to send five Hizballah brigades sweeping across the border to seize five sectors of Galilee, while also organizing a massive Israeli-Arab uprising against the Jewish state. Hamas would open a second front in the south and in the east. Syria is expected to step in at some stage.  This plan with attached special map was first published exclusively by DEBKA-Net-Weekly 430 on Jan. 22, 2010. Key excerpts appear here.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards instructors at especially established training facilities near Tehran are already well advanced in training a cadre of 5,000 Hizballah fighters in special operations and urban combat tactics to standards equivalent to those current in similar US and Israeli military forces. At the outset of the course, the group was split up into five battalions, each given a specific northern Israeli sector for capture with details of its topography and population for close study.

1st Battalion:   This unit will break through the Naqura-Rosh Haniqra border pass and sweep south along seven kilometers to seize Nahariya, the Israeli Mediterranean city of 55,000 – or parts thereof.    UN peacekeepers have their headquarters at Naqura, the other side of Rosh Haniqra, and Israel defenses there are lax, so no military or geographic obstacles to this Hizballah drive are anticipated. This battalion will capture a large number of Israeli hostages for use as live shields against an Israeli counter-attack.  A small group of 150 fighters, trained by Revolutionary Guards marines, will also try and reach the coast by swift boats. They are already standing by in Lebanon.

2nd Battalion:   This unit is assigned to capture the northern Israeli town of Shlomi, 300 meters southeast of the Naqura border pass and home to 6,500 inhabitants. Holding this town and its environs will give Hizballah control of a key road hub and stand in the path of Israeli reinforcements heading for Nahariya through routes 89 and 899 from key Israeli bases in the Galilee and Upper Galilee regions to the east.
Please pray for all the enemies plans to be exposed

6. New Natural Gas Finds off Haifa Could be Worth $7.54 Billion    ICEJ News  Feb 4th
A Canadian oil company announced on Tuesday that it has found two more huge fields of up to 6 trillion cubic feet of natural gas resources off Israel’s northern coast, which could potentially be worth up to $7.54 billion. The Bontan Oil and Gas Company has been searching for natural gas off the coast of Haifa and will have a 71.625% interest in the prospects through its 75% equity share of the Israel Petroleum Company which has rights to drill and permits to explore in Israel. The prospects are located just south of the Tamar and Dalit prospects where natural gas estimated to be worth up to $40 billion was found last year. In other news, foreign investments in Israel totaled $533 million in December, the Bank of Israel reported on Tuesday. Direct investment, mostly in biotechnology companies, “increased at a faster rate in recent months than previously,” the Bank of Israel said.
Please pray that this gas will be a real blessing to Haifa and the whole country

7.  First Time  -  Jew Wins Arab Nobel Peace Price   Ha Aretz News   Feb 3rd
An American professor has become the first Jew to win  the King Faisal International Prize in Medicine, popularly  known as the “Arab Nobel Prize.”  Stanford professor Ronald Levy,  who heads of the university’s Oncology department, told Haaretz that as  an American Jew married to an Israeli it never crossed his mind  that he might win the Saudi-financed competition.  After he was  informed of his victory, Levy rushed to check the contest Web site,  where he found his picture and biography already on the homepage. The  prize committee had posted Levy’s biography exactly as he submitted it,  with one glaring exception: the line showing his post-doctoral work at  the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot had been deleted.  The  prize, which included $200,000, a medal, and a certificate in English  and Arabic, also came with a dinner with Saudi King  Abdullah.
Levy told Haaretz he was certain his wife and daughters  would not be able to attend the ceremony, as their passports are full of  visas from Israel and his wife and one of his daughters were  born in Israel. To his surprise, when he went to the Saudi consulate in  Los Angeles, the attendants stamped their passports, and no one asked  any questions.   In spite of their fears before the trip, Levy said  his family was treated to royal hospitality during their entire stay  in Saudi Arabia. He said that even when people were aware of his  religion and his family’s background, he was treated no different  than anyone else. Also, Levy said Saudis were fascinated with hearing  what he and other visitors think of their country, and if their  expectations were proved wrong or not.
Levy’s victory is the  first time in the award’s 30 years that a Jew has won, which Levy says  he took as a sign that Saudi Arabia is becoming more open.
Levy  won the prize for his part in the development of a drug used in the  treatment of many types of cancer that is being widely viewed  as revolutionary. For over 30 years, Levy has researched methods of using the body’s immune system to fight cancer. His  research led to the development of the concept that a drug made from  antibody could be used to fight cancer.
Please pray for the full reconciliation of the descendants of Isaac & Ishmael

Sarah Palin: The Credibility Gap

The Credibility Gap
While I don’t wish to speak too harshly about President Obama’s state of the union address, we live in challenging times that call for candor. I call them as I see them, and I hope my frank assessment will be taken as an honest effort to move this conversation forward.

Last night, the president spoke of the “credibility gap” between the public’s expectations of their leaders and what those leaders actually deliver. “Credibility gap” is a good way to describe the chasm between rhetoric and reality in the president’s address. The contradictions seemed endless.

He called for Democrats and Republicans to “work through our differences,” but last year he dismissed any notion of bipartisanship when he smugly told Republicans, “I won.”

He talked like a Washington “outsider,” but he runs Washington! He’s had everything any president could ask for – an overwhelming majority in Congress and a fawning press corps that feels tingles every time he speaks. There was nothing preventing him from pursuing “common sense” solutions all along. He didn’t pursue them because they weren’t his priorities, and he spent his speech blaming Republicans for the problems caused by his own policies.

He dared us to “let him know” if we have a better health care plan, but he refused to allow Republicans in on the negotiations or consider any ideas for real free market and patient-centered reforms. We’ve been “letting him know” our ideas for months from the town halls to the tea parties, but he isn’t interested in listening. Instead he keeps making the nonsensical claim that his massive trillion-dollar health care bill won’t increase the deficit.

Americans are suffering from job losses and lower wages, yet the president practically demanded applause when he mentioned tax cuts, as if allowing people to keep more of their own hard-earned money is an act of noblesse oblige. He claims that he cut taxes, but I must have missed that. I see his policies as paving the way for massive tax increases and inflation, which is the “hidden tax” that most hurts the poor and the elderly living on fixed incomes.

He condemned lobbyists, but his White House is filled with former lobbyists, and this has been a banner year for K Street with his stimulus bill, aka the Lobbyist’s Full Employment Act. He talked about a “deficit of trust” and the need to “do our work in the open,” but he chased away the C-SPAN cameras and cut deals with insurance industry lobbyists behind closed doors.

He spoke of doing what’s best for the next generation and not leaving our children with a “mountain of debt,” but under his watch this year, government spending is up by 22%, and his budget will triple our national debt.

He spoke of a spending freeze, but doesn’t he realize that each new program he’s proposing comes with a new price tag? A spending freeze is a nice idea, but it doesn’t address the root cause of the problem. We need a comprehensive examination of the role of government spending. The president’s deficit commission is little more than a bipartisan tax hike committee, lending political cover to raise taxes without seriously addressing the problem of spending.

He condemned bailouts, but he voted for them and then expanded and extended them. He praised the House’s financial reform bill, but where was Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae in that bill? He still hasn’t told us when we’ll be getting out of the auto and the mortgage industries. He praised small businesses, but he’s spent the past year as a friend to big corporations and their lobbyists, who always find a way to make government regulations work in their favor at the expense of their mom & pop competitors.

He praised the effectiveness of his stimulus bill, but then he called for another one – this time cleverly renamed a “jobs bill.” The first stimulus was sold to us as a jobs bill that would keep unemployment under 8%. We now have double digit unemployment with no end in sight. Why should we trust this new “jobs bill”?

He talked about “making tough decisions about opening new offshore areas for oil and gas development,” but apparently it’s still too tough for his Interior Secretary to move ahead with Virginia’s offshore oil and gas leases. If they’re dragging their feet on leases, how long will it take them to build “safe, clean nuclear power plants”? Meanwhile, he continued to emphasize “green jobs,” which require massive government subsidies for inefficient technologies that can’t survive on their own in the real world of the free market.

He spoke of supporting young girls in Afghanistan who want to go to school and young women in Iran who courageously protest in the streets, but where were his words of encouragement to the young girls of Afghanistan in his West Point speech? And where was his support for the young women of Iran when they were being gunned down in the streets of Tehran?

Despite speaking for over an hour, the president only spent 10% of his speech on foreign policy, and he left us with many unanswered questions. Does he still think trying the 9/11 terrorists in New York is a good idea? Does he still think closing Gitmo is a good idea? Does he still believe in Mirandizing terrorists after the Christmas bomber fiasco? Does he believe we’re in a war against terrorists, or does he think this is just a global crime spree? Does he understand that the first priority of our government is to keep our country safe?

In his address last night, the president once again revealed that there’s a fundamental disconnect between what the American people expect from their government, and what he wants to deliver. He’s still proposing failed top-down big government solutions to our problems. Instead of smaller, smarter government, he’s taken a government that was already too big and supersized it.

Real private sector jobs are created when taxes are low, investment is high, and people are free to go about their business without the heavy hand of government. The president thinks innovation comes from government subsidies. Common sense conservatives know innovation comes from unleashing the creative energy of American entrepreneurs.

Everything seems to be “unexpected” to this administration: unexpected job losses; unexpected housing numbers; unexpected political losses in Massachusetts, Virginia, and New Jersey. True leaders lead best when confronted with the unexpected. But instead of leading us, the president lectured us. He lectured Wall Street; he lectured Main Street; he lectured Congress; he even lectured our Supreme Court Justices.

He criticized politicians who “wage a perpetual campaign,” but he gave a campaign speech instead of a state of the union address. The campaign is over, and President Obama now has something that candidate Obama never had: an actual track record in office. We now can see the failed policies behind the flowery words. If Americans feel as cynical as the president suggests, perhaps it’s because the audacity of his recycled rhetoric no longer inspires hope.

Real leadership requires results. Real hope lies in the ingenuity, generosity, and boundless courage of the American people whose voices are still not being heard in Washington.

Address:

David’s Comment:   Israel is Being Disproportionate Again !
Psalm  121:4  He who watches over Israel  neither slumbers nor sleeps

Many countries and world leaders  as well as the media have accused Israel of responding disproportionately to aggression from Hizbollah in Lebanon and more recently Hamas in Gaza. True in the Lebanon war of 2006, 150 Israelis died and moire than 1500 in Lebanon died.  That does seem disproportionate until these facts are considered  ……..

1/ a third of the Israelis killed were civilians
2/ Hizbollah fired more than 4000 rockets into northern Israel  -  one rocket killed 9 men in a train repair workshop and another killed 12 soldiers sitting ina  filed waiting to be deployed.   So lets say each rocket had the potential to kill on average 10 people  – thats a potential death toll of 40,000, but the number was only 150.  Now thats what I call disproportionate!
3/ Israel was forced to go to war in Gaza due to the fact that 10,000 rockets were fired from Gaza into Southern Israel over 7 years. Again the death and injury count was disproportionately low, as near,y every rocket missed its mark.

What is even enormously more disproportionate is the size and power of the God of Israel, compared to anything or any other being in the Universe.  And He who watches over Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps.  That is why 90% plus of the rockets missed their targets.  Sadly much of the secular media seem to be on a personal vendetta against God, Bible believing Christians and Israel.

It is time that the world press and media speak of another disproportionate response from Israel.  The terrible disastrous earthquake in Haiti has generated responses from many nations. The US has sent supplies and personnel, Britain sent 64 firemen and 8 volunteers, France sent troops for Search and Rescue. Many large and wealthy nations of the world sent money. It is being reported that the Arab and Moslem world have sent nothing.

In a totally disproportionate effort, Israel, a tiny nation of only 7.5 million people has sent a team of 220 people that include medical personnel who have  established the largest field hospital in Haiti, treating up to 5000 people a day.. Nearly 100 Haitian children are currently being cared for at the Israeli facility, most of them in serious condition. One baby has been delivered so far by Israeli midwives. Israel also sent an experienced Search and Rescue team and two jumbo jets full of medical supplies. As in previous earthquake disasters, such as in Gujarat India in 2001 and in Turkey , in the bombings in Kenya , Israel has been one of the most generous givers of aid and assistance.  (Turkey seems to have forgotten this help as its extreme Moslem Government is cozying up to Iran) Judge Goldstone, where are you now? You should be eating your heart out and hanging your head down in shame.  The favorite occupation for the last 43 years in the UN is Israel bashing. More resolutions have been passed condemning Israel than all the so called democratic nations such as Sudan , China , Russia and others for their crimes against their minorities.  But when it comes to acknowledging Israel’s many positive attributes, the silence is deafening.  Where are all of the usually very vocal pro-Muslim anti-Israel protesters now ?  Obviously they are only interested in venting their anti-Semitic hatred at every opportunity and are not interested in fairness and truth.

I think it is time that the world should know about Israel ’s disproportionate response.    Please forward this to as many people as you can.

1. Israelis Continue Saving Lives in Haiti    Israel Today News   Jan 21st
Israeli rescue teams in Haiti assisted in the rescue and treatment of another two survivors discovered among the rubble of the devastated capital of Port-au-Prince on Tuesday.
Together with rescue teams from Russia, Nicaragua and Venezuela, the Israelis helped pull two live female victims from a collapsed building.   One of the women was rushed to the Israeli field hospital where she received life-saving treatment.   The Israeli field hospital and the overall Israeli effort in Haiti continues to garner praise and accolades from world leaders and the international press. Hundreds have been treated at the Israeli hospital, 90 lives have been saved following severe injuries, and five babies have been delivered.   The Israeli facility is the only one on the scene equipped to handle the complex surgical procedures so many of the victims require. As a result, aid workers from many other countries are volunteering at the Israeli field hospital. Currently, 10 surgical teams from Britain, eight Columbian doctors and nine volunteers from California are working together with the Israelis at the facility.

2.  Obama Letter to Stress Need to Carve Up Israel for New PA State      Worldnet Daily   Jan 17th
President Obama is planning to issue a letter in the next few weeks guaranteeing U.S. support for a plan to give much of the West Bank and eastern sections of Jerusalem to Palestinians within two years, WND has learned.  The presidential letter is slated to stress U.S. commitments to Israeli security as well.  It would state the final borders of a Palestinian country will be determined by direct Israeli-Palestinian negotiations but that the U.S. supports a Palestinian state in the general 1967 borders – meaning the West Bank, Gaza Strip and eastern Jerusalem.  According to a source in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, the Israeli leader is pushing against a formal letter from Obama, recommending the U.S. president issue an official oral declaration instead.   The contents of the letter are being discussed by Israelis with both Egypt and the U.S. and separately by the Palestinian Authority with Egypt and the U.S. Egypt is a key broker in the matter.   WND has learned that on Monday Israeli National Security Adviser Uzi Arad was in Egypt on a secret visit to discuss Israeli-Palestinian talks as well as the content of Obama’s future declaration.  Arad’s visit until now has not been reported by the news media.

3.  Israel Hit by Major Winter Storm   Israel Today News   Jan 18th
The cold weather and heavy rains that have been pounding Europe finally made their way over to Israel on Monday, flooding much of the country.  The heavy rains brought traffic to a standstill in many areas, and destroyed at least one major bridge in the northern Negev region.  The rains were particularly troublesome for residents of the Negev, where roads are not made to handle such downpours. Monday’s showers brought triple the amount of the Negev’s usual annual rainfall.   The rains were expected to let up on Tuesday, but resume on Wednesday. Heavy snowfall is forecast for Mt. Hermon in northern Israel.  While the volume of the downpour is an inconvenience, Israeli officials hoped to capture much of the precipitation and use it to alleviate Israel’s growing water crisis.

4. Obama Acknowledges Failed Mideast Policy   Israel Today News   Jan 22
US President Barack Obama said in an interview with Time magazine published on Thursday that he had erred in raising expectations of a quick and smooth peace process between Israel and the Palestinians under his auspices.   Obama said during his first year in office, he had learned what former presidents also had to discover the hard way – that there are deep-seated, ancient and religious differences at play in the Middle East conflict that make it difficult for either side to move forward.   Obama said he knew that it wouldn’t be easy going in, but overestimated his ability to persuade the Israelis and the Arabs to brush aside their disagreements and reach a final status peace agreement.   Obama almost seemed to excuse Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas’ intransigence by saying he had “Hamas looking over his shoulder and, I think, an environment generally within the Arab world that feels impatient with any process.”   Israel, on the other hand, was the recipient of muted criticism when the president said that only after “a lot of time” did Jerusalem finally offer and implement gestures to get talks back on track, and even then they were not the “bold gestures” Washington and the Arabs had demanded.
In November, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu implemented a 10-month freeze on Jewish construction in Judea and Samaria to entice the Palestinians back to the negotiating table. At the time, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton praised what she called an “unprecedented” move, and nearly scolded Abbas for remaining defiant.  But as the weeks went by and the Palestinians made it clear they would settle for nothing less than total Israeli surrender, the Obama Administration changed its tune and began pressuring Israel to come further in line with Arab demands.  An Israeli official cited by Israel’s Channel 2 News on Thursday said the Netanyahu government had warned Obama that making peace would not be so easy, and that for more than a decade Israeli gestures and concessions had only led to increased Arab demands that Israel couldn’t possibly meet.

5. London University Employs Muslim Extremist   ICEJ News  Jan 19th
Reza Pankhurst, who was imprisoned from 2003 until last year for being a member of Hizb ut-Tahrir – a hard-line Islamist group, is currently employed as an assistant lecturer at the prestigious London School of Economics. He is accused, among other things, of involvement in a 2003 suicide bomb attack on Mike’s Place, a popular restaurant near the US Embassy in Tel Aviv, which was carried out by three British Muslims who entered Israel on tourist visas. Omar Sharif, one of the bombers, was a long time friend of Pankhurst and according to a mutual acquaintance Pankhurst played a key role in his radicalization. One LSE student told The Times of London on Saturday that Pankhurst preaches often in a mosque near the university and calls for “the dismantling” of the “illegal entity” of Israel and other anti-Western political positions.

6. Jordan Claims Iran Behind Attack on Israeli Diplomats   ICEJ  News   Jan 19th
Sources in Jordan intelligence announced on Monday that last week’s attempt to assassinate Israeli diplomats driving in a two-car convoy on the way home from Amman was carried out by local al-Qaida operatives with money and support from the Islamic Revolutionary Guards in Iran, with the explosives used in the attack possibly smuggled into the country by Iranian diplomats. “We can see Iran’s fingerprints on the roadside bombing,” the sources said

7. Not All Settlers and Palestinians Want Each Other to Disappear     HA Arettz News   Jan 22nd
In a Palestinian village somewhere between Hebron and Bethlehem, it was so cold and misty one day last month that you could barely see more than a meter away. It was as if the fog served as camouflage, a hiding place behind which a few dozen settlers and Palestinians were concealed. They had crowded together in the hall of a local school, ostensibly to talk about joint prayers for rain – which came even without the prayers – but in essence to talk about themselves. This time, for a change, within earshot of the other side.  It would be an exaggeration to say that brotherhood reigned in the school auditorium. Both sides spoke Hebrew, since most of the Palestinians work in settlements: one at the local council, another as a cleaner, a third as a veteran employee at a nearby yeshiva. When the son of the village elder complained that for 42 years they haven’t been allowed to build even a wall, one of the settlers replied: “We’re not being allowed to build, either.”
“They’re building everywhere in Kfar Etzion, in Elazar, in Alon Shvut,” Muhammad, the mukhtar’s son, responded politely, albeit without trying to curry favor. “Why not me? We see your children. My child asks: ‘Why do the Jewish children have this and that, and I don’t?’”   Similarly, the word “fear” held a double meaning at this session. “I don’t want to be afraid any more,” said Efrat resident Yael Goldstein at one stage of the conversation. Her two children took part in the meeting and introduced themselves in Arabic, which they are studying so that they can get to know the neighbors. “I want to pick up an Arab hitchhiker; I see them shivering from the cold in the rain, or in the summer, and I want to take them, but I’m afraid. What can be done so that I won’t be afraid?”
“Why does a person have fear?” Muhammad answers. “You are afraid if you’ve done something wrong. If I haven’t done anything bad, why should I be afraid?” Muhammad did not go into specifics.

Mike Hukabee on Obamacare’s Demise…

Don’t Let Obama’s Spending Binge
Destroy Your Wealth
Dear Concerned American,

With the recent loss of the Massachusetts democratic seat, Obama’s had to back away from health reform. Unfortunately, he’s set his sights on devouring the entire free-enterprise system.

In his first 100 days as president, Obama gobbled up two major automakers, wolfed down nearly 600 banks, gorged on blue-chip companies, and scarfed down the U.S. credit industry. Now he wants dessert. President “Obama the Hungry” makes King Henry VIII look like a compulsive dieter!

I know something about overeating. It can kill you. Back when I was governor of Arkansas, I was so overweight I developed Type II diabetes. Doctors told me to lay down the knife and fork — or else. That scared me. I cut the calories and lost 110 pounds. Only then did I regain my health.

Does fat like that scare Obama? Heck no. He’s hungry for more! Fresh from gulping down $800 billion of our money to load up his Washington smorgasbord, he’s now looking for a second course. And you and I will pay the tab for this gargantuan pig-out!

As sure as heartburn follows a chili-dog, this massive “Obama-binge” will trigger hyperinflation. There’s only one way for the President to pay for this feast and you know what it is. Yes, get those presses rolling and print trillions of inflated dollars.

I’ll bet you’re thinking — well, what can I do about it? True enough, Obama can pretty much do what he wants — at least until the 2010 mid-term elections come along and we Americans can send him a “slim-down or else” message.

But right now, you and I need to protect the money we’ve earned and invested over the years — before Obama’s hyperinflation chews our buying power down by multiple percentage points. This is a serious concern, believe me. It’s so serious I won’t pretend, as a politician and talk-show host, to have the answers for you. But I know someone who does.

I urge you to consider the proven financial guidance of Doug Fabian — the renowned investing advisor who saw the financial meltdown of 2008 coming and saved a whole lot of people a whole lot of money.

Subscribers to Successful Investing, Doug’s newsletter, knew the meaning of terms like “housing bubble” and “sub-prime” long before they became headline news and the source of financial misery for millions.

This is what Doug wrote in 2006, nearly two years before the crash:

“Pay little heed to the real estate industry’s PR campaign to play down the coming housing price slump. It’s happening. The bottom is falling out for many banks, investors, and homeowners right now.”

This is what Doug is writing today:

“Never mind the endless speculation about inflation and interest rates — they’re going up.”

Doug ’s not just warning his readers about hyperinflation, he’s steering them to investments that make money during inflationary periods. He reminds us that many fortunes were made in the 1970s when America was ravaged by high inflation and brought to the brink of collapse by Jimmy Carter — a president eerily similar to Barack Obama.

Look, I’m no investing wizard. But I invest. I have to. So do you. Counting on Social Security while Obama is in office is a little like saying, “The Light Brigade is about to charge? Sign me up!”

But having someone with the proven know-how and track record of Doug Fabian is a comfort. That’s some track record, by the way. Successful Investing has generated double-digit annual returns for ordinary investors for 32 years and counting. Best of all, Doug does all the work for you.

Don’t just take my word. Investor’s Business Daily called Doug “one of the best market timers in the business.

Count on it, the “Obama-binge” will result in hyperinflation. ($800 billion in government spending makes it all but inevitable). You can’t control that. But when the day of reckoning comes, you can be one of the few whose portfolio is already adapted to profit from it. Could you ask for anything better? Well, you can. But you’ll have to wait till 2012 before we elect a new president!

I urge you to try Successful Investing today.

Who do you think is causing all the terror?

The Council on American Islamic Relations, the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy group, began 2010 by complaining about new security measures being enforced at U.S. airports by Transportation Security Administration security officers. The CAIR leadership released a statement that claims the TSA’s airport security directives amount to the profiling of Muslims.

Washington-based CAIR officials claim that the new guidelines, under which anyone traveling from or through 13 Muslim-majority nations will be required to go through enhanced screening techniques before boarding flights, will disproportionately target American Muslims who have family or spiritual ties to the Islamic world and therefore amount to religious and ethnic profiling.

“Under these new guidelines, almost every American Muslim who travels to see family or friends or goes on pilgrimage to Mecca will automatically be singled out for special security checks — that’s profiling,” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad.

“While singling out travelers based on religion and national origin may make some people feel safer, it only serves to alienate and stigmatize Muslims and does nothing to improve airline security,” he said.

“We all support effective security measures that will protect the traveling public from an attack such as that attempted on Christmas Day,” added Awad. “But knee-jerk policies will not address this serious challenge to public safety.”

However, security experts believe that the measures are reasonable and necessary in order to enhance airport and airline protection and safety.

“Look, I don’t buy it. The fact is, what I say is do smart screening. Ethnicity is one of the factors that should be included in the profile. After all, what is profiling? You’re extrapolating the common characteristics of the terrorist attacks. 100% of all the terrorist attacks against the United States last year were carried out by Muslim jihadists. So, if that’s the one common denominator, let’s include that in the mix. That at airports would trigger a secondary inspection in which case the bomber on Christmas Day this year, maybe have they found the bomb,” said the respected terrorism expert Steven Emerson, founder and director of the Investigative Project on Terrorism.

“Are you going to inspect 98 year old ladies from Sweden in wheelchairs because we’re trying to distribute the risk among 300 million Americans when the risk category is really spread 99 to 1 million people? No I don’t buy it. Let’s be smart about this,” added Emerson, who is a consultant for several media and law enforcement organizations.

Israeli security agents and police have used this method for screening people at airports and security checkpoints for years with much success.

In a commentary distributed Monday by CAIR challenging calls for profiling, Awad suggested alternatives to faith-based security checks: “First look at behavior, not at faith or skin color. Then spend what it takes to obtain more bomb-sniffing dogs, to install more sophisticated bomb-detection equipment and to train security personnel in identifying the behavior of real terror suspects.”

But law enforcement officials and security professionals believe that to treat everyone equally is like grade school discipline.

“It’s ridiculous. Because a few extremists who are Muslims perpetrate terrorist attacks on planes, everyone must be inconvenienced and harassed? That’s like elementary school when a student misbehaves and the teacher punishes the entire class by keeping them all after school,” said former intelligence officer and NYPD detective Sid Frances.

“The Israeli security people are trained to use profiling — they also look at body language, listen to voice patterns, check eye contact and other facial indicators of deception,” said Frances.

In CAIR’s press statement, Awad cited an editorial published today by the San Diego Union-Tribune, which states in part:

“But aside from the moral objections, as we’ve seen, profiling by characteristic isn’t very efficient. The minute U.S. officials put out the word that they’re not scrutinizing people with blond hair and blue eyes is the minute that al-Qaeda starts recruiting people with blond hair and blue eyes. Would looking for Arab-Americans have turned up a passenger that resembled ‘American Taliban’ fighter John Walker Lindh? Would applying extra scrutiny to people with foreign-sounding names have kept would-be shoe bomber Richard Reid off a plane?”

Counterterrorism experts believe that part of the professionalization process is the training of airport security staff in what’s been called psychological profiling or behavioral analysis or a number of other terms that all amount to the same thing — effectively screening out potential terrorists.

This is a welcomed program by those in law enforcement who’ve said for years that psychological profiling should be used by airport security staff. While representing the staff and membership of the National Association of Chiefs of Police at lectures or during media interviews, this writer often discusses the need for upgrading the training of airport security staff with part of that upgrade to include psychological profiling.

Most police officers and investigators are familiar with the concept since it’s used during the interrogation and interview process to detect deception on the part of the subject. Without going into too much detail, interrogators or interviewers, while questioning a subject about the matter at hand, are observing body language, eye contact, breathing, physical characteristics such as dry mouth or profuse perspiration, and other criteria.

According to TSA officials, security officers at major airports across the country will be trained to use “casual conversation” to flush out possible terrorists. They will first teach officers what suspicious behaviors to look for in travelers. These can include nervousness, wearing a big coat in the summer or reluctance to make eye contact with law enforcement. Then, the officers carry on a supposedly casual conversation with passengers in hopes of spotting possible terrorists or to determine whether further scrutiny of a passenger is required.

Without fanfare, these techniques are being employed at several major airports, including those in Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Miami and Houston. Again, psychological profiling — or, as the TSA calls it, behavior detection — is a common practice among police officers. Customs agents, who screen arriving passengers, also use the process when they suspect a passenger needs a more detailed interview. This behavior detection program will be put in place at airport security checkpoints nationwide. It adds a psychological dimension to the screening process.

Ten Years was not a very long time…and then twenty-ten (the pre-teen years of adolesence) is upon us…
2009 is now all over and we are in the first few hours of 2010. In spite of millions of people’s expectations that Barack Obama would perform major messianic miracles, 2009 brought us the worst financial situation for more than 50 years. In the midst of the deepening recession, as financial institutions were falling like dominoes,  Bernie Madeoff made off with billions of investors hard earned savings. Al Gore and co tried to freak us out with the worry of being flooded out of this life by rising sea levels, caused by the fictitious Global Warming.  Then there was the threat of millions of deaths from the dreaded Swine Flu (funny – have not heard a single word about it for weeks now )  2009 could have closed with a major catastrophe on Christmas Day, had the Al Qaeda inspired attempt to blow up the Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit.  Whether it was Divine intervention, Islamic incompetence, or just plain good luck, the bomb was a fizzer and the aircraft and passengers were saved from certain destruction, while the would be terrorist only managed to burn himself.

With all of that now behind us, what can we expect in 2010 ?  Even more of the same would be good news, because I expect things to get worse.  I believe that one of the reasons for the rapid deteriorating state of the world is Genesis 12:3.  The God of Israel told His servant Abraham that He would bless those who blessed him & his descendants, and that those who take Israel and the Jewish people lightly would experience the wrath of Israel’s God.  Most nations in the world today are taking lightly the God-given right to occupy all of the territory that God promised to Abraham.  The secular media has turned The Jewish people from being the victims of Islamic and Church inspired anti-Semitism, into blood thirsty monsters who oppress and murder the so called Palestinian people, even stooping as low as accusing the Israel army harvesting their organs.

The Holy One of Israel tells us in His Word that Israel is the lens of His eye. Zech 2:8 8  For thus says the LORD of hosts: “He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.  (NKJ)   That tells me that everything God sees as He looks down from Heaven at every activity taking place on Planet Earth, He sees through the lens of Israel.  And I dont think the All Powerful One is too happy with the way that most of the world ( and much of the Church )  treats His nation and his people.  Of course there are other reasons why the Creator of the Universe is bringing the nations under His judgement.  Abortion, homosexuality and other sexual immorality, idolatry and the love of money just to name but a few.

To quote form this weeks  The Omega Letter Intelligence Digest Vol: 22 Issue: 28 – Monday, December 28, 2009   ………..

We’re just days from saying goodbye to the first decade of the 21st century.  If one wanted to summarize the first ten years of the 21st century, it would be the Decade of Fear.  The decade opened with the threat posed by  the Y2K Bug  to bring about the instantaneous destruction of Western civilization.  Ahmed Ressam intended to ring in the New Year with a bomb attack against Los Angeles International Airport — the so-called Millennium Plot

One of the jokes making the rounds during the first decade of the 21st century went like this:  “You know the end is near when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy,  France accuses America of arrogance and Germany doesn’t want to go to war.”

Add to that the election of a woefully inexperienced Chicago politician on the basis of his race, his coronation as the nation’s messiah and the introduction of national socialism and you begin to wonder if we’ll last until Saturday so we can say goodbye to the Decade of Woe.

So are we ready for what ever 2010 holds for our nations, and our families ?  How do we best make ourselves ready ?

1/   We need to be physically prepared  -  a good degree of physical fitness in case we need to walk a long distance to save our lives or the lives of others.
    – prepare a stock of drinking water and long-lasting foods  -  a comprehensive medical kit -  copies of important documents and back ups of important
date in our computers  -  an escape and rendezvous plan with family & close friends and your home group (we may not be able to get to church)

2/   We need to be emotionally prepared  – mentally ready to deal with a dramatic change in our lifestyles and comfort levels  -  once the money system crashes and they bring in the New World Order cashless system we wont be able to buy or sell unless we take the mark  -  that means we cant pay our rent or utility accounts, buy food and water,  gas up our cars  ……. nothing !   Are we emotionally ready to deal with that ?

3/   Most importantly we need to be spiritually prepared.   We need to be firmly standing on The Rock.  We need to know the Word and be led by the Holy Spirit.  We need to be like Peter when the Lord called him out of the boat, he was able to walk on the water – until he focused on the waves and the wind instead of focusing on the Lord.  We need to fix our eyes on Yeshua and do only what He tells us to do, and to trust the voice of the Lord only.

And always remember  1/  Great is He who is in us than he who is in the world
2/  If God is for us who can be against us
3/  No weapon formed against us will prosper
4/  When these things begin to happen, look up for our redemption is getting close

Josie and I, Stefan & Keren and Jordan pray that inspite of what comes in 2010, you and your family will be blessed, anointed, protected and prospered  -  in the name of Yeshua  ………..  Amen & Amen

Shabbat Shalom …. David & Josie

THIS WEEKS NEWS REPORTS

1.  US to Jumpstart Peace Talks, but Israeli FM Says it’s Impossible   Israel Today News  Dec 28th
The Obama Administration is preparing a major relaunch of peace efforts between Israel and the Palestinians, but Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said they are doomed to fail.   A senior Arab diplomat told the AFP in Cairo on Monday that “US special envoy George Mitchell will present two draft letters of guarantee, one for Israel and one to the Palestinian Authority during his next visit to the region.”   He said Washington hopes the two letters will serve as the basis for renewed peace talks, though the diplomat himself doubted it would work since the letter to the Palestinians does not include the demanded full cessation of Jewish construction in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria.  A day earlier, Lieberman said it is increasingly clear that a real peace agreement cannot be concluded in the next 10 to 20 years.  “We think that if we make more concessions everything will work out,” the Jerusalem Post quoted Lieberman as telling a gathering of Israel’s 140 ambassadors in Jerusalem. “Even if we return the last grain of sand, and divide Jerusalem, and agree to all the demands, nothing will change and we will be in the same situation.”
Lieberman said that Israel had already gone above and beyond in its concessions and gestures for the sake of peace, including allowing the PLO terrorist organization to move into the region and set up as a sovereign power and uprooting 10,000 Jews from the Gaza Strip.  On top of that, former prime ministers Ehud Barak and Ehud Olmert had been willing to meet as much as 98 percent of remaining Palestinian demands, only to be slapped in the face by their “peace partners.”   “It doesn’t matter what we offer, they will always find an excuse to say ‘no,’” noted Lieberman.  Pointing out that the Palestinians cannot even remain united themselves, as evidenced by the Hamas-Fatah conflict, Lieberman lamented that there is little hope the current generation will see peace.
Please pray that the Lord’s peace plan will be established

2. Washington Squawks Over New Homes for Jews in Jerusalem   Israel Today News   Dec 28th
The Obama Administration on Monday criticized Israel for approving plans to build 700 new apartments in three Jewish neighborhoods on the eastern side of Jerusalem, which the Palestinians claim as their future capital.  The apartments will be built in neighborhoods that are home to tens of thousands of Jews already, and which almost no Israeli agrees should be surrendered and emptied of Jews as part of any peace deal with the Arabs.  But with Washington increasingly taking the Palestinian view of issues on the ground, an administration official speaking on condition of anonymity was not shy in referring to the new construction as settlement activity.   “…we consider all the Israeli settlements to be beyond the pale of what we wish to see going on, and are not helpful, again, to getting the two sides back to the table,” the official said in remarks to the Associated Press.
Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev reminded the Americans that Israel does not “make a distinction between the West Bank and Jerusalem. Jerusalem is our capital and remains such.”    Other officials also noted that eastern Jerusalem was not included in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s partial 10-month settlement freeze designed to get the Palestinians back to the negotiating table.   Unreported by most media outlets was the fact that the Jerusalem municipality also approved the construction of 500 new Arab housing units on the same day.
Please pray that the Israeli government will ignore the demands of the US administation and cancel the settlement freeze

3.  Israel Eliminates Rabbi’s Palestinian Killer   Israel Today News  Dec 28th
The Israeli army on Saturday shot and killed the Palestinian terrorist responsible for a roadside shooting two days earlier that left an Israeli rabbi and father of seven dead.  Israeli troops surrounded the home of the terrorist in the Samarian city of Nablus and demanded that he surrender himself. When the terrorist refused, the troops opened fire, killing him and two accomplices.  Israeli settlers, who have been at odds of late with the security establishment over enforcement of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s temporary settlement freeze, praised the swift retaliation following an attack on one of their own.
However, settler leaders noted that had the government and army not succumbed to American pressure to remove so many roadblocks in the area, Thursday’s fatal shooting that left Rabbi Avshalom Chai dead probably wouldn’t have happened.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority condemned Israel for eliminating Rabbi Chai’s killer, and accused the Jewish state of reinstating an “assassination policy.” PA Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudaineh said that rather than Palestinian terrorist attacks on Jews, it was Israel’s retaliatory operations that were dragging the region into violence instead of peace.   However, many Palestinians who spoke to local media outlets insisted that the Israeli raid on the terrorist’s Nablus hideout was facilitated by PA security forces. They noted that prior to the operation, all PA security personnel left the area.
Hamas jumped at the opportunity to further defame the PA by accusing it of “collaboration” with the Zionist enemy. Of course, the various agreements between Israel and the Palestinians obligate the latter to collaborate at every level with Israel to end the scourge of Islamic terror in the region.   Israeli security officials praised what they called “determined and impressive” action by PA security forces in the wake of Rabbi Chai’s murder, including the arrest of some 120 suspects. That praise further strengthened claims that the Palestinian Authority was cooperating with Israel at some level.  Many Israelis are waiting for the day that the Palestinians are no longer speaking out of both sides of their mouths by cooperating with Israel behinds the scenes (if indeed that is what happened) and then condemning the Jewish state in public.

4. Hamas: We Foiled Israeli Attempt to Locate Gilad Shalit     Ha Aretz News  Dec 31st
The internal security apparatus of Hamas claims to have foiled an Israeli attempt to collect intelligence on where kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit is being kept. According to the head of Hamas’ internal security service, Abu Abdullah, the Shin Bet security service has tried gathering intelligence through members of the rival Fatah organization who have operated in the Gaza Strip in the past.   The report appears to be mostly an attempt to smear the Palestinian Authority and its activities. Abu Abdullah said in an interview to a Web site affiliated with Hamas, Falastin Alan, that the Fatah operatives hired a house and cars in the eastern part of Gaza City and planned to kidnap a senior figure in the military wing of Hamas and bring him to Israel. He did not specify when the operation was to take place.
Meanwhile, the Hamas Web site reported that the negotiations for the release of Gilad Shalit have met with Israel’s refusal to release four “senior” prisoners. The four are: Tanzim leader Marwan Barghouti, secretary general of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Ahmed Sa’adat, and two of the heads of Hamas’ military wing in the West Bank, Ibrahim Hamad and Abdullah Barghouti, who are responsible for the murders of dozens of Israelis in suicide bombings.   On the other hand, a member of the Hamas politburo, Izzat al-Rishq, stressed in an interview to the Arabic language TV station Al-Jazeera that the Islamist Palestinian group is continuing consultations on the proposal relayed to it by the German mediator.  Rishq rejected the report Tuesday by TV station Al-Arabiya that Hamas had turned down the proposal.  The Hamas official refused to offer details on the substance of the proposal from Israel or comment on problems that Hamas may have with it.
Please pray that Gilad will escape or be rescued unharmed

5. Israeli Government Braces For More Petitions to Open Roads   ICEJ News   Dec 31st
A day after the High Court of Justice ordered the IDF to open Highway 443 to Palestianian traffic defense officials said Wednesday that the Defense Ministry is preparing legal arguments against an expected spate of court petitions to open other roads currently only open to Israeli cars because of security concerns.  On Tuesday, the High Court of Justice ordered the IDF to open Route 443 – which links Jerusalem to Ben-Gurion Airport and Tel Aviv – to Palestinian traffic. The road was closed to such traffic in 2002 following a spate of terror attacks along the road that killed six people. Until then, the road had served as many as 55,000 Palestinians living in several villages along the length of the highway, including Beit Sira, Safa, Beit Ur a-Tahta and Khirbet el-Misbah.  Modi’in Mayor Haim Bibas, in an interview with Israel Radio Wednesday morning, said the High Court of Justice decision to open the 443 highway to Palestinian traffic is “detached from reality.”   Bibas stressed that the road was closed after various terror attacks, is now safe and constitutes a central artery for traffic.
According to the B’Tselem advocacy organization, there are still 59 kilometers of roads in the West Bank that are off limits to Palestinian traffic. Most notably are the roads that link the Palestinian village of Hawara with the settlement of Elon Moreh, the road that connects the Palestinian town of Salfit with Road 5 and the Kedar road near Ma’aleh Adumim.   Officials said that the Defense Ministry’s legal department was preparing defenses for expected petitions by human rights and advocacy organizations against the closure of these roads to Palestinian Authority traffic. “The court ruling on 443 sets a precedent based on which groups will likely try to get other roads opened,” one official said.
The court gave the IDF five months to make preparations to open a 14-kilometer section of Road 443 that is between two checkpoints – one called Maccabim near Modi’in, and the other on the opposite side near Jerusalem. To ensure the safety of Israeli drivers, the IDF will likely increase its presence on the highway and erect additional watchtowers to deter and spot potential attackers. “This is a matter of strategic importance since this is one of only two highways that connects Jerusalem with the center of the country,” one IDF source said Wednesday. “We need to make sure that it is safe and open at all times.”   In addition to potential shooting attacks on the road, the IDF is also concerned with the possibility that Palestinian terrorists will plant improvised explosive devices near the highway. Two weeks ago, security forces discovered the remains of an IED – made of a gas balloon and firecrackers – that had gone off along the road.
Please pray that this dangerous decision will be reversed

6. In Absence of Peace, Israel Has Chosen ‘Peace-Lite’     Ha  Aretz News    Jan 1st
The previous decade began with Israeli hopes of peace, but was characterized by wars and disappointment. On January 1, 2000, the country was on the brink of signing an agreement with Syria, and was a few months away from reaching a permanent settlement with the Palestinians. Or at least that is how it appeared back then, with numerous peace conferences, rounds of negotiations and diplomatic summits taking place.  At the end of summer that year, however, everything changed. The peace process collapsed in both channels, the Syrian and the Palestinian, and in its stead the second intifada broke out, lasting more than four years and leading to the deaths of thousands of Israelis and Palestinians. The delicate infrastructure of the Oslo Accords, which relied on cooperation between Israel and Yasser Arafat’s state-in-the-making, fell apart, never to return. Prospective agreements that surfaced during the course of the decade all came to naught.  In place of the false anticipation for “an end to the conflict,” Israel developed a new model that can be termed “peace substitute” or “peace-lite.” Instead of political agreements setting out terms for security arrangements and normalization, the new approach relied on setting boundaries that would grant Israel international legitimacy for acts of self-defense. Instead of control on the ground, Israel would deter its enemies from afar, through its air force. It was deterrence in place of peace.
Israel subsequently withdrew from South Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, and discovered that the other side also prefers deterrence to peace. Hezbollah’s rocket stockpile up north and Hamas’ presence in the south were meant to counterbalance the Israel Defense Forces’ firepower. Twice Israel went to war, in Lebanon in 2006 and in Gaza in 2008, and in both cases, the mutual deterrence formula – “destruction versus destruction” – was eventually restored.   A similar process took place with the Syrian channel, but more cautiously, and without the terrible price the other wars exacted in casualties, physical destruction and economic devastation. Syria strove to bolster its deterrence against Israel by secretly building a nuclear reactor and arming Hezbollah. Israel attacked the nuclear facility in Syria in 2007, and, according to foreign sources, it also engaged in widespread clandestine activity on the Syrian side, culminating in the assassination of senior figures. Again, the motive was maintaining deterrence. The Syrians did not respond to the bombing of their reactor, or to the assassinations on their territory, and thus all-out war was avoided.

7. Iran Soccer Body Sends Israeli Team New Year`s Greeting    Jerusalem Post Dec 31
The Iranian football federation sent its Israeli counterpart a new year’s greeting on Thursday, Army Radio reported, in what a Tehran official described as a mistake.  Mohammad Ali Ardebili, director of foreign relations for the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, told Army Radio that he had not intended to send the missive to the Israel Football Association.  “It is a greeting sent to every country in the world,” Ardebili said. He quickly then inquired: “Are you talking from Israel? I can’t speak with you. It’s a mistake, it’s a mistake.”   The greeting was received in Israel by the head of the Israel Football Association’s legal department, Amir Navon.    “He came into my office asking me if I thought it was a mistake,” said body spokesman Gil Levanoni/ “So I told him that I didn’t know, but that we should send in a reply.”   Levanoni and Navon said they replied to the greeting with a “happy new year to all the good people of Iran,” and said: “We also added a wink.”

And (he) lived

Genesis 49:19-26

The blessings of your father have excelled the blessings of my ancestors,
Up to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills. They shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers.  (Gen. 49:26 NKJV)

Why did Yosef receive the largest blessing?

Yosef received the longest blessing with 61 words in the Hebrew text. Yehuda’s blessing has 55 words. Also, among the blessings that Moshe pronounced over the twelve tribes, Yosef’s is the largest (Deut. 33)

Why did Yosef receive the largest blessing among his brothers? I want to point out two reasons:

First, because he suffered more than anyone of them

Second, because he had consecrated himself more than his brothers. The Hebrew word that has been translated as “separate” or “consecrate” is nazir – נזיר – whose root nazar – נזר means to set a distance, to abstain oneself. It is the same word used for the vow of the Nazirite in Numbers 6.

The one who suffers for justice and the one who separates from sin, impurity and the world will always receive the greatest blessing in this life and in the coming life.

May the Eternal give us strength to be joyful in suffering due to justice and truth knowing that they produce a good result with lots of blessings.

The CARMEL ALERT  Dec 25th 2009
A compilation of news reports from the past week for the information of those committed to praying
for Israel  and the salvation of the Jewish  people

David’s Comment:  Turn Up The Global Warming  -  Its Freezing Outside !!!
Sorry about the sarcastic title for such a serious subject, but the Climate debate is becoming ridiculous.  The Copenhagen conference on “Climate Change” is now behind us and like many other similar attempts by our secular humanistic leaders to fix the world’s problems, this one also seems to be a load of hot air.  As we have seen in previous world conferences, it is very difficult for the leaders to overcome cultural differences and financial interests, to be able to come to a firm agreement.  At least they have began to use a more correct term for the issue. It began with the politicians and the news media constantly referring to “Global Warming”. however they are now more correctly calling it “Climate Change”

What bothers me is how blind or stupid the news media seems to be.  It is very obvious that they constantly turn a blind eye to the real facts behind the Israel / Arab conflict, and now it is becoming very obvious that they are doing the same with their new “Palestine” – the Global Warming issue.  Just as there is no such thing as a Palestinian people, and never has been,  there is no such thing as Global Warming.  Many places in the world are colder than they have been for decades.  It started snowing in Denver, Colorado, weeks earlier than normal.  New Zealand had its coldest winter for many years, and there are other places where the temperatures are lower, not higher.  And there are places that are warmer that they have been for several years, so we can clearly see that there is no Global Warming going on, but I concede that there is Climate Change – some places are colder and some places are warmer.  So 10 points and a Christmas present to whoever is responsible for the correct change of terminology.

The conference closed at the weekend with ‘Superstar / Messiah’  Barack Obama making his grand entry at the last minute, in the hope of being the catalyst to secure an international agreement, and securing an even greater  “Messiah” status in the eyes of a world desparate for saviour, but not a saviour who represents the true Creator of the Universe.  They prefer the kind of Messiah who like themselves opposes every good instruction that the Creator YHVH has given us to live by.  Thankfully Obama failed on both counts and slowly more and more people who voted him in, are beginning to realise that the US president. in not the great Messiah they hoped he would be

However it seems that most of the news media are still seriously blinded to the truth behind almost everything that is going on in the world today.  I find it absolutely ludicrous that while this Climate conference was taking place, and many Europe and parts of the USA were experiencing their coldest December for more than 50 years.  The snow storm in Washington DC was so severe as Air Force One landed with Obama on board, that the huge blue and white Boeing 747 was almost invisible.  As the ‘greenies’, the policitians and the media were getting out of shape over the claims that our vehicles, industry, and even too many cows were causing the temperatures to rise, placing the future of life on Earth in doubt, millions of people were freezing, and tens of thousands of other people in the UK, Europe and the northern east coast of the USA were left stranded as road, rail and air transport was closed down by the coldest December weather in 50 years and more.

Come on now, who are you trying to kid ?  If this is Global Warming we need much more of it !!!

For all of you who are preparing to celebrate the birth of Yeshua, Josie, Jordan, Stefan & Keren and I pray that you will all have an abundantly blessed Christmas with family and friends, and that the Holy One of Israel will prosper you in every way in 2010.

Shabbat Shalom …. David & Josie

THIS WEEKS NEWS REPORTS

1. Obama: Israel Will Eventually Attack Iran    Israel Today News   Dec 18th
US President Barack Obama warned Chinese Prime Minister Hu Jintao in Beijing last month that Washington can only prevent Israel from attacking Iran for so long, senior Israeli diplomats revealed to Ha’aretz on Thursday.   Obama was in China to convince Hu to stop opposing international efforts to sanction Iran over its defiant nuclear program. Obama warned that eventually Israel will feel the threat to its existence is too great and will attack Iran’s nuclear facilities, and there will be nothing the US can do to stop it.   Washington believed the visit to be a success when China backed international condemnation of Iran a week after Obama returned to the US. But in the past two weeks, China has returned to its previous policies by opposing international efforts to impose new sanctions on the Islamic Republic.  Both Obama and Israel also hoped to decrease China’s dependency on Iranian oil, which provides a very steady income for Tehran.   Meanwhile, the Israeli and American intelligence communities are leading a global effort to uncover and shut down clandestine Iranian purchasing networks that are busy buying up the materials needed for Iran’s nuclear program.  One such network was exposed recently in Taiwan.
Please pray that the Israeli government will make God led decisions concerning Iran

2. Israel: This Is Our Last Gesture to Palestinians   Israel Today News  Dec 20th
Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Thursday said Israel is getting fed up with making peace gestures to the Palestinians, only to be slapped in the face, and that the current 10-month settlement freeze will be the last gesture offered by Israel.  “Now the time for Israeli gestures has ended. The Palestinians can decide whether they want to come to the negotiations table or not,” Lieberman told students at Ariel University Center. “The ball is in the Palestinian court.”   Lieberman reminded those listening that the temporary settlement freeze is not the first gesture implemented since Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took office in March. Netanyahu also complied with Palestinian demands that he accept the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state as the outcome of peace talks, and has removed numerous military checkpoints in the so-called “West Bank.”
But instead of responding in kind, or at least returning to the negotiating table, the Palestinians have rejected each Israeli gesture and “moderate” Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has repeatedly threatened to step down over what he calls phony Israeli offers.  “We cannot tolerate a situation in which (Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas) keeps threatening to resign and shouting ’support me,’” said Lieberman.   If the Palestinians do not take the current gesture seriously, Lieberman said it will be Israel’s last and it will be fully reversed. “Let be clear – in 10 months construction in the Judea and Samaria will resume in an open and transparent manner.”
Please pray that the whole peace process comes to a grinding halt and that Israel will hold on to every inch of God-given land

Deal for Gilad Shalit at Least 10 Days Off   Israel Today News   December 23rd
3.     This is not the first time media reports have suggested an imminent prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas that would see abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit finally freed from Gaza. And if reports this week are accurate, that deal won’t be hammered out for at least another 10 days, if ever.  Few details of the deal being discussed are known, except that Israel is ready to free about 1,000 jailed Palestinian terrorists in exchange for Shalit. The deal is reportedly being held up by Israel’s insistence that the more notorious of those criminals be exiled from the region. Israel is also refusing to release about seven of the terrorists demanded by Hamas due to the severity of their crimes.  Hamas on Wednesday rejected Israel’s latest positions, but said it would continue negotiations in order to sway Israel and get its way.
Israeli organizations that represent the victims of Palestinian terror note that terrorists released in previous prisoner exchanges went on to kill 200 Israelis, and that Israel should not make the same mistake in its quest to win Shalit’s freedom.  Palestinian media outlets have also acknowledged that Israel’s willingness to release hard-core terrorists for captured or even dead Israeli soldiers is incentive to continue the kidnappings.   Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he is painfully aware of the dilemma.  “I face two vital principles – the desire to free hostages and the desire to protect Israeli citizens from an attack in the future,” Ha’aretz quoted Netanyahu as telling concerned families of terror victims on Tuesday.
Please pray that the Israeli government will Not go ahead with the prisoner exchange,  but that Gilad will escape or be rescued

4. Palestinian  Gunmen Kill Israeli Motorist     Israel Today News  Dec 24th
Palestinian terrorist gunmen shot and killed an Israeli motorist traveling in northern Samaria on Thursday. The attack occurred between the Jewish communities of Shavei Shomron and Einav.   The assailants managed to flee the scene, and a manhunt was launched to bring them to justice.  The last fatal terrorist shooting in Judea and Samaria occurred in March 2009.  In other terror-related news, security forces on Thursday revealed that a major traffic disruption last week on the highway that runs from northern Jerusalem to Tel Aviv had been caused by a roadside bomb.  The bomb had several firecrackers attached to it, which were supposed to set off the high-grade explosives. But only the firecrackers went off, possibly saving many lives. Israeli security forces destroyed the rest of the bomb in a controlled explosion.
Please pray that all acts of terror ill be exposed and thwarted before they happen

5.  Israel: US Coonsulate Car Tried to Run Over Checkpoint Guard    Jerusalem Post  Dec 25th
A  dispute is rumbling between Israel and the US Consulate in Jerusalem after a US diplomatic car allegedly tried running over a Defense Ministry security guard recently at an IDF checkpoint in the West Bank. The car had been stopped after the occupants refused to present identification papers.   Israel is also furious that one of the consulate cars was found to have transported a Palestinian without permits between Jerusalem and the West Bank.   The identification of American diplomats from the consulate at IDF checkpoints has been a major sticking point for several years. In January 2008, the Civil Administration of Judea and Samaria filed complaints with the Foreign Ministry after both US Security Coordinator Lt.-Gen. Keith Dayton and then-consul-general Jacob Walles refused to roll down their windows or open their car doors and show identification papers at a checkpoint.  However, Israel’s ire reached a new level after an incident on November 13 in which a five-car convoy of consulate vehicles with diplomatic plates arrived at the Gilboa crossing.
According to a detailed official Israel Police description of the incident obtained exclusively by The Jerusalem Post, the drivers refused to identify themselves or open a window or door. The drivers, according to the report, purposely blocked the crossing, tried running over one of the Israeli security guards stationed there and made indecent gestures at female guards. The entire incident was documented by cameras at the crossing.  Following the incident, the head of the police’s Security Department, Lt.-Cmdr. Meir Ben-Yishai, convened a meeting on November 18 at police headquarters in Jerusalem with the regional security officer at the consulate, Tim Laas. Also present were officials from the Defense Ministry and the Foreign Ministry, and the regional security officer at the US Embassy in Tel Aviv, Dan Power.    Ben-Yishai described additional violations by consulate workers, and referred to at least one case in which a female Palestinian without appropriate documentation was found in a diplomatic car. Defense officials told the Post that there had been other similar cases in the past. omeone,” Ben-Yishai said, according to the official police protocol. Ben-Yishai also said the drivers of the cars, from east Jerusalem, hid their Israeli identity cards and put stickers over their names on their consulate-issued identity cards, since, as they claimed, “they are in a diplomatic vehicle and cannot be touched.”

 6. Was Jimmy Carter’s Apology to Jews Genuine?   Israel Today News  Dec 23rd
Former US President Jimmy Carter surprised many earlier this week when, after decades of antagonizing Israel, he published a letter of apology to Jews around the world for “stigmatizing” the Jewish state.  Carter’s outbursts and accusations against Israel and his acceptance of Hamas and other terror groups are well known. His 2006 book “Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid,” which laid the bulk of the blame for the lack of peace on Israel, was seen as the last nail in the coffin of a relationship that ostensibly began positively at Camp David in 1978.   So, Carter’s letter of apology struck many as odd, and on Tuesday it was revealed there may indeed have been ulterior motives.  Just one day after Carter’s letter was published, his grandson, Jason Carter, announced that he is planning a run for the Georgia state senate, with aspirations of a much grander political career. Having his grandfather tainted as a “Jew hater” would have greatly hindered that career.  Both Carter and his grandson denied that the apology had nothing to do with Jason’s upcoming electoral campaign, but the timing and the absolute reversal of the former president’s earlier sentiments have raised many questions.

7. Palestinians Ban British Choir for Performing with Israeli Orchestra   Israel today News  Dec 23rd
The Palestinian Authority this week informed the Clare College Choir from Cambridge, England that its performances in eastern Jerusalem and Bethlehem had been cancelled after it dared to perform last week with the Israeli Camerta Orchestra.  The ban came after the London-based Palestinian Solidarity Campaign circulated a petition against the choir over its “indifference to Palestinian suffering,” evidenced by its willingness to perform with and for Israelis.  According to the boycott group, the Clare College Choir’s appearance in Israel had helped to promote it “as a normal state,” which the Palestinians and broader Arab world find unacceptable.  The choir’s director, himself a professed supporter of the “Palestinian cause,” said he was taken aback by the ban.
