Whom Will You Choose?
The Prelude to Passover
2013
“Thus says the Lord God of the Hebrews: ‘How long will
you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people
go, that they
may serve
Me. Or else, if
you refuse to let
My people go,
behold,
tomorrow I will
bring locusts
into your
territory. And
they shall cover
the face of the
earth, so that no
one will be able
to see the
earth; and they
shall eat the
residue of what is
left, which remains to you from the hail, and they shall
eat every tree which grows up for you out of the
field. They shall fill your houses, the houses of all your
servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians—which
neither your fathers nor your fathers’ fathers have seen,
since the day that they were on the earth to this day.’”
And he turned and went out from Pharaoh.Exodus 10:3-6
As we approach Passover 2013, an event of Biblical
proportions has once again struck the nation of Egypt.
Yesterday, a giant swarm of locust, estimated to be 30
million insects suddenly descended on Giza, near
southern Cairo, destroying crops, trees, and plants along
with everything green in their path. Interestingly, this
event is taking place just a few weeks before Passover,
just as it did in the days of Pharaoh!
As most of you know, Egypt recently held elections, and
the ruling party that assumed power was the Muslim
Brotherhood led by their new President, Mohamed Morsi.
In a recent video Morsi declared that all Jews are
descendants of apes and pigs.
It seems that President Morsi of Egypt, Hamas in Gaza,
Hezbollah in Lebanon, Assad in Syria, along with the
President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and Tayyip
Erdogan of Turkey, have all forgotten the lessons of the
Passover in Egypt.
Morsi, Hamas, Hezbollah, Assad, Ahmadinejad, and
Erdogan have all learned nothing from human history.
They have forgotten the consequences of the prophetic
“Blessings and Curses,” decreed in Genesis 12:3
regarding those who choose to curse the Jewish people,
and the God of Israel.
They have forgotten the Jews are the same people the
God of Israel, by His outstretched arm, brought back to
the land of Israel after thousands of years of dispersion.
He has given the same people their ancient Capital city,
Jerusalem. He has given all this to the same people who
all speak, read, and pray in the same ancient language,
Hebrew. An ancient people who all read the same Bible,
and pray to the same God they prayed to thousands of
years ago. They pray and worship the God of Israel, who
does not slumber nor sleep; the God of the everlasting
covenant with the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and
Israel.
The same God who spoke to Pharaoh and said, “Let My
people go that they may serve Me!”
The same eternal God who is the same yesterday, today,
and forever.
The same Everlasting God who declared;
“But you, Israel, are My servant,
Jacob whom I have chosen,
The descendants of Abraham My friend.
You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth,
And called from its farthest regions,
And said to you, ‘You are My servant,
I have chosen you and have not cast you away:
Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.”
“I will strengthen you,Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
“Behold, all those who were incensed against you
Shall be ashamed and disgraced; They shall be as
nothing, And those who strive with you shall perish.
You shall seek them and not find them—
Those who contended with you.
Those who war against you
Shall be as nothing,
As a nonexistent thing.
For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand,
Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.”
Isaiah 41:8-13
The faithful and mighty God who spoke to Israel
declaring;
“You (Israel) are My witnesses,” says the Lord,
“And My servant whom I have chosen,
That you may know and believe Me,
And understand that I am He.
Before Me there was no God formed,
Nor shall there be after Me.”
“I, even I, am the Lord,
And besides Me there is no savior.”
“I have declared and saved,
I have proclaimed,
And there was no foreign god among you;
Therefore you are My witnesses,”
Says the Lord, “that I am God.”
“Indeed before the day was, I am He;
And there is no one who can deliver out of My hand;
I work, and who will reverse it?”
Isaiah 43:10-13
Today, we are witnessing most of the nations of the world
turning against Israel, the God of Israel, and against His
eternal covenant with the people of Israel. Let us all
remember to pray for mercy for those who curse Israel.
Cursing Israel has very serious consequences for nations
and people who have, throughout human history, sought
to destroy the Jewish people, to persecute them, to drive
them out of their land, or divide their land, and who seek
to exterminate, eradicate, conquer, and enslave the
remnant of the House of Israel.
A short review of human history reveals that today, Egypt
is a third world nation, virtually bankrupt, a nation in
turmoil, and certainly one who no longer rules the world.
They are only a shadow of the nation that ruled the world
under Pharaoh. Likewise, the past great empires of
Assyria, Babylon, the Medes and Persians, the Greeks,
and the Romans have all ceased to exist, just as God
prophesied. They have ceased to exist for one reason –
they all cursed Israel!
Where is the mighty Spanish empire, who expelled the
Jews from Spain, and the great British empire who once
ruled the entire Middle East, all of India, and controlled
the Suez Canal? Where is Hitler’s Third Reich, or Stalin’s
Soviet Russian empire? Like all the nations before them,
their once mighty empires are no more.
Why, you asked, has all this taken place? It has taken
place because the blessings and curses prophesied in
Genesis 12:3 are very real in the eyes and heart of the
God of Israel, because they touch His heart, and they
touch His everlasting covenant with the Jewish people
and the land of Israel.
As God promised Abraham; “And I will establish My
covenant between Me and you and your descendants
after you in their generations, for an everlasting
covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after
you. Also I give to you and your descendants after you
the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of
Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their
God.” Genesis 17:7-8
So as we approach Passover and Easter this month let us
humble ourselves and pray, and seek the Lord, that our
people and our nation, America, will not choose as so
many nations before them, to curse the nation of Israel
and the Jewish people.
This month President Obama will travel to Israel for the
first time. What demands will he make on Israel to divide
their land and their eternal capital? Will he bless Israel or
choose to continue to curse Israel? The outcome will
determine whether blessings or further curses come upon
America!
So we encourage each of you to pray, to stand in the gap
for our nation, and for the President to choose blessings
for our great nation, not curses.
Let each of us choose to bless Israel, to pray for the
peace of Jerusalem, and to bless the Jewish people who
are truly the apple of God’s eye, lest a curse come upon
us as it has the nation of Egypt and all the former
empires that ruled the earth.
Let us remember that He who keeps Israel neither
slumbers nor sleeps, and to those who bless Israel and
the Jewish people He declares,
“The Lord is your keeper;
The Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall
not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve you from
all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall
preserve your going out and your coming in from this
time forth, and even forevermore.”
Psalm 121:5-8
