A compilation of news reports from the past week for the information of those committed to praying

David’s Comment: Time is Short – Time to Put the Gospel to Work
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.   (NKJ)

If anyone is in doubt that things are accelerating and the return of the Lord is rapidly approaching  – just look at the crazy things taking place all around the world.  Things that were taboo 30 years ago are now regularly seen on television & movie screens.  Most people don’t even bat an eyelid at things that would have caused an outrage a generation ago.  Even in the church, which is supposed to be the House of God, we see & hear things that you would once only have witnessed in a pub or nightclub.  Ever since the late 1960’s the moral fibre of the Western world had been steadily sliding into the abyss.

Another clue is the rise of Islam, and not just radical Islam.  We are witnessing the covert infiltration of Islam into every sector of our once Christian nations – the most concerning being the media and politics.  Do not be fooled like most of those around us.  Islam is not a nice peaceful religion.  It is a religion that exists to take land for Allah and to subdue all those who resist, even to the point of cold blooded murder.  And the Islamic world’s intensifying fervour to see the demise of Israel is yet another indicator of the rapidly approaching end of the age.

Then there are the ever increasing natural disasters.  Storms, floods, tsunamis, fires, and earthquakes are wreaking havoc all over the planet.  According to the UK’s Daily Telegraph, the recent earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand, moved the earth 11 feet. These are truly days of great shaking, but according to the words of Yeshua in Matthew 24 and Luke 21, there is much worse to come.  As never before, now is the time to share the Good News of God’s plan and provision of personal salvation with family, friends, neighbours, work-mates, and the people we come into contact every day at the PO, the bank or the store. Even people we encounter who we never met before and are unlikely to meet again, deserve the opportunity to say YES to Yeshua.

Ever since the morning after I gave my life to the Lord, I have had a strong compunction to tell people about the reality of God.  Until that time, i had been a devout Atheist, virulently denying the very existence of God.  Most people’s initial response was “that’s great for you, but please don’t involve me.”  It seems that a spirit has come down over the post-Christian Western World that causes the majority of people to have absolutely no interest in their own eternal well-being.  In fact I had a recent revelation that most people (myself included) spend more time & energy trying to prove that God doesn’t exist, than seeking to simply discover the truth.  I see now how irrational that is.  Surely if there really is a benevolent Creator out there, who desires to have a 2 way intimate relationship with His children, and wants to bless them in every way, any intelligent, rational person would want to have that kind of relationship.  Only a  lying, deceiving spirit can cause human beings from seeking out their Creator.

Yeshua is now seated at the right hand of the Father, leaving each & every one of us with the “great commission” to go into all of the world making disciples in every nation.  That doesn’t mean we need to travel to the other side of the world to share the Gospel.  Sadly, most of the people we encounter every day are on the road to eternity in Hell. In case any of our readers don’t believe there is a Hell, Yeshua mentioned Hell many more times that He mentioned Heaven. And if there is no Hell, why did the Son of God need to endure the excrutiatingly painful and shameful death on the cross ?  I believe there is a Hell and that the Lord is looking to us to rescue as many of His children as possible from that eternal separation.

I want to share with you some of the ways I employ to share the Gospel

Rather than you doing all the talking,  ask them questions  ….

Find out where they are currently at in their belief system   –  there is no point talking about the Bible if they dont even believe there is a God

Share your most powerful, supernatural testimonies  –  if you don’t have any, step out of your comfort zone and you will soon have some

Use current events to initiate conversations.  Here you can quote what the Bible says about the End Times  –   as a car bumper that i saw said  ” Read the Bible – It will scare the Hell out of you !”

Proclaim relevant scripture verses over people  – but you don’t need to tell them that you are quoting the Bible – that only causes people to  put their defenses up – just proclaim the Word

Most importantly keep the people you are witnessing to in your prayers  –  Yeshua told us that no one comes to the Father unless the Holy Spirit draws them

If you would like a more comprehensive article on evangelism please email me & I will send you an attached article.       REMEMBER  ………..

Rom 10:14-15  How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?  And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!”  (NKJ)

The Lord bless you as you bless Israel by standing in defense of her right to exist on the land given to the Jewish people by the God of Israel.
Lets pray that Israel will turn back to their God.  Do not be silent, but share this with your fellow Christians, share it with your pastors, and with anyone you have a chance to speak to. Lets also pray for that breakthrough to the Muslims,  and please remember to pray for all of the soldiers in the IDF -they are defending and fighting for the Kingdom of God.

Shabbat Shalom …. David & Josie

THIS WEEKS NEWS REPORTS

1. Netanyahu Demands Full End to Conflict   Israel Today News   Sept 12th
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that when he attends the next round of direct peace negotiations with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on Tuesday, he will demand that the agreement they are working toward mark a full end to the conflict.   Abbas “needs to recognize the principle that if we reach a settlement on borders then Israel will demand that it end the conflict, and the Palestinians recognize the Jewish state,” an Israeli official told the Ynet news portal. “The prime minister will not agree to a principle that allows the Palestinians to establish a state and then continue the argument over which territory belongs to whom.”    In that vein, Netanyahu on Sunday reiterated his demand that the Palestinians recognize Israel as “the Jewish state,” and that after the signing of a peace deal.   “We both live on the same small piece of land but as soon as we suggest a two state solution for two nations, a Jewish one and a Palestinian one, unfortunately I do not hear from the other side the sentence ‘two states for two nations.’ I hear two states, but I don’t hear two nations,” Netanyahu said at the weekly cabinet meeting.
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas clarified for his people on Monday that he intends to make not even one concession or compromise in direct peace negotiations with Israel, and that for a final status peace to be achieved, Israel will have to fully meet all Arab demands and abandon its own conditions.  First and foremost, Abbas told Palestinian newspapers that if the Jewish building freeze in Judea and Samaria (the so-called “West Bank”) is not extended indefinitely, the negotiations will come to an immediate halt. But Abbas also said he would walk out of the talks if he is pressured at all to alter the Palestinians’ more hardline positions.  “If they demand concessions on the rights of the refugees or the 1967 borders, I will quit. I can’t allow myself to make even one concession,” Abbas told the Palestinian newspaper Al-Ayyam.   The Palestinian Authority again reiterated to its own people in Arabic that the ultimate goal in regards to Jerusalem is to wrest control of the entire city from Israel. And once again, the international media ignored the nefarious agenda that the Palestinians themselves admit they have.  The Palestinian government was outraged this week when the World Jewish Congress kicked off its annual gathering in Jerusalem.
Please pray that the PM keeps the Biblical borders and the future of Israel as his primary concern

2. Gaza Rockets Mar Holiday Weekend for Israelis    Israel Today News   Sept 12th
The Rosh Hashanah holiday weekend was not a restful one for the residents of southern Negev region, where four rockets fired by Gaza-based Palestinian terrorists landed from Thursday to Saturday evening. On Sunday morning, another two rockets were fired at southern Israel.  There were no injuries in the attacks, but local Israelis were forced to spend much of the holiday indoors and as close to their bomb shelters as possible.   Last Wednesday, on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, a mortar shell fired from Gaza damaged an Israeli kindergarten just 30 minutes before the children arrived.
Please pray that all rockets & other missiles will continue to land on open ground

3 .IDF Shelling Kills 3 Militants Near Gaza Border   Ha Aretz News  Sept 12th
An Israel Defense Forces shelling killed three Palestinians approaching the border between Israel and Gaza, Israel Radio reported on Sunday, as the number of violent incidents in recent weeks continues to increase.   Earlier Sunday, Gaza militants fired three mortar shells at the northern Negev. No injuries or damages were reported.  The IDF Spokesman’s Office stated in response that an “IDF unit spotted suspicious figures attempting to fire anti-tank missiles, at which point the soldiers returned fire.”   The statement added that, in an earlier separate incident, Israeli soldiers identified suspicious figures attempting to approach the border fence between Israel and Gaza, with soldiers firing warning shots.
Lask week Israel Air Force planes struck targets in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip in retaliation to Palestinian militants firing a rocket from the territory into Israel.  The IDF confirmed at the time that its air force had attacked the coastal territory in response to a wave of security incidents over the last week.  The army said that it had struck smuggling tunnels used by militants planning to infiltrate Israel and commit terror acts against civilians soldiers.   The cross-border violence was the first since Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met in Washington on Thursday to relaunch peace talks, and was a stark reminder of the obstacles both leaders face.
Early on Saturday, Gaza militants fired a rocket into southern Israel, causing no injuries, the Israeli military said.  Hours later, witnesses and Hamas security officials said Israeli aircraft fired rockets at targets in Gaza, including smuggling tunnels along the border with Egypt.   Gaza security officials say one Palestinian was killed, one wounded and three are missing after the Israeli air strike. Hamas identified the five as smugglers working in a tunnel under the Gaza-Egypt border.  The Islamists of Hamas routed forces loyal to Abbas to take over the Gaza Strip in 2007. Hamas rejects Abbas’s peace moves and said on Thursday that 13 militant groups had agreed to work together to launch “more effective attacks” against Israel.
Please pray that the IDF is able to locate and decommission all who seek to make war with Israel

4. Palestinian Mortar Targets Israeli Kindergarten    Israel Today News   Sept 12th
Palestinian terrorists operating out of the Gaza Strip fired a mortar shell at an elementary school compound in southern Israel on Wednesday morning, damaging the kindergarten building.   The attack came just 30 minutes before the students arrived for school. Officials said that had the attack happened just a little later, Israel would today be mourning a major tragedy.   School officials decided to go ahead with classes, but had all of the students study in the few buildings that are fully reinforced against Palestinian rocket and mortar attacks. Students were not permitted to go outside for recess.
Lets give thank to the Lord for the fact that the children were not harmed

5. Nine Mortars Hit Southern Israel   –  One Terrorist Killed in Tunnel Strike  Ha Aretz News Sept 15th
Israeli aircraft bombed a smuggling tunnel under the Gaza Strip’s border with Egypt on Wednesday, killing a Palestinian, witnesses said. The attack came hours after Gaza militants stepped up rocket and mortarfire on southern Israel, in an apparent attempt to scupper Middle East peace talks.   Witnesses in the southern Gaza town of Rafah said the Israeli air strike killed a tunnel worker and wounded two other people. The Israeli army confirmed the attack.   Earlier on Wednesday, Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired two Qassam rockets into Israel. One of the rockets exploded in an open area in the industrial zone just south of Ashkelon. There were no injuries or property damage.  In addition to the rocket strikes, nine mortar shells also hit an open area in the Eshkol region near the Gaza Strip, the Israel Defense Forces confirmed.
There was also a fear of renewed violence across the border in Jordan, with the U.S. embassy in the country warning of a high chance of terror attacks in the Red Sea city of Aqaba over the coming 48 hours.  The increased violence came a day after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met Tuesday in Egypt to continue the direct peace talks that began earlier this month. The leaders were meeting again in Jerusalem on Wednesday, for their third conversation in two days.  Hamas, which control the Gaza strip, have condemned the talks and early this month timed a pair of West Bank shooting attacks to coincide with the opening of negotiations in Washington, killing four Israelis and wounding two.
Please pray that those repsonsible for these rocket attacks are prevented from making further attacks

The Israel Defense Forces killed a Hamas military commander in the West Bank, Israel Radio reported on Friday, in the latest of recent violent clashes between Israel and the Islamist organization.  Hamas has declared its objection to the recent relaunch of direct peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, saying that Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas does not represent the Palestinian people and is not authorized to negotiate on its behalf.     Speaking to the cabinet earlier this week, Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin said that Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip and which is believed to have operatives working in the PA-ruled West Bank, has issued “an organizational directive to foil the talks.”
According to the IDF, an Israeli army unit had been conducting a raid for wanted Palestiniains in a village east of Tul Karm, when one of the wanted men, named by Israel Radio as Hamas West Bank strongman Iyad Shilbayeh, began “running suspiciously toward the [IDF] force, refusing to heed the soldiers’ request to stop.” “The unit, feeling threatened, opened fire, killing the suspected,” the IDF Spokesman’s office said, adding that “the incident was being investigated.”   In an escalation of tensions on Wednesday, militants fired two phosphorous mortar shells into Israel from the Hamas-ruled Strip. A total of nine mortar shells were fired on Wednesday, all falling in fields in the Eshkol Regional Council, causing no casualties or damage.
6. IDF Kills Hamas Military Leadwr in the West Bank – Tensiomns Rising    Ha Aretz News   Sept 17th
Please pray for calm over the Yom Kippur weekend  – often a time of heightened pressure on Israel

Defense Minister Ehud Barak held initial discussions with defense officials this week about the approaching end of the building freeze in the West Bank. He is trying to find ways to restrict settlement construction by the Defense Ministry, which is the de facto authority in the West Bank, without issuing a new order to suspend construction when the moratorium ends on September 26.   U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton yesterday urged Israel to extend the freeze. She told Channel 10 this would be “extremely useful” for making progress in negotiations with the Palestinians.   A senior official familiar with the debate on the construction freeze said new building in the West Bank could be delayed through legal measures for a long time. The ministry is also examining legal steps it can take to delay the construction of 2,000 housing units that had been approved before the construction freeze went into place.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at his meetings this week with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that he would not extend the moratorium on construction. The official said that, instead of a new suspension order, which would require the approval of both the cabinet and the forum of seven ministers, Israel could reach quiet understandings with the Americans on limiting the construction for several months.  It is expected that such understandings would enable the Americans to persuade the Palestinian Authority not to quit the negotiations, the official said.  Barak is due to leave Saturday night for Washington, where he will meet with Defense Secretary Robert Gates and National Security Advisor General James Jones. He is also scheduled to meet with Clinton.   .  Terrorist Planned to Bomb IDF Event in Paris     Ha Aretz  News  Sept 11th
7.  Barak May Use Legal Loopholes to Impose Defacto Settlement Freeze   Ha Aretz News  Sept 17th
Please pray that Baraks plans will be foiled

7     A terrorist who planned to bomb an Israel Defense Forces fundraising event in Paris has been arrested in Egypt and extradited to France, the Le Journal du Dimanche reported late Saturday.   The report, which was relayed to the newspaper by French intelligence chief Bernard Squarcini, did not specify when the arrest took place nor did it elaborate on the details of the IDF event in question.  Speaking in an interview with the weekly newspaper, Squarcini said French authorities foil an average of two planned attacks per year, but “one day or another, we’re going to get hit.”   He said the risk of a terrorist attack on French soil has “never been higher” and that “objectively, there are reasons for worry.”
The intelligence chief added that France’s history as a colonial master in North Africa, its military presence in Afghanistan and a proposal that would ban full-covering face veils in public make the country a prime target for certain radical Islamist groups.  The risk now was as high as in 1995 before of deadly attacks on the Paris Metro by Algerian Islamic extremists, Squarcini told Le Journal.  Squarcini said the threat is threefold, coming from Al-Qaida’s North African affiliate – an Algerian insurgent group that allied itself with the international terror network several years ago and has targeted French interest in the region in the past – radical French converts to Islam and French nationals who have trained with extremist groups in Afghanistan, Yemen and Somalia.
Please pray for angelic protection over Israeli interests everywhere in the World

How we are Saved…

August 25, 2010

‘Cursed be anyone who does not confirm the words of this law by doing them.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’ (Deut.  27:26 NIV)

Who can deliver us from the curse?

This text is speaking of an attitude of “confirming” or “keeping to” the words of the Torah in one’s heart. One who says in his heart that the commandments no longer apply, will be cursed. On the other hand, one who holds fast to them in his heart will be blessed. Therefore, the Scriptures say in Romans 8:3-4: “For what the Torah couldn’t do, in that it was weak through the flesh, Elohim did, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh; that the ordinance of the Torah might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”(HNV revised)

The demands of the Torah are fulfilled in us. It does not say by us, but in us. This is something internal, an attitude, a willingness, a readiness. The Messiah came so that we would be able to have the right attitude toward the commandments by being filled with the Spirit. A spirit that leads a person to reject the commandments of the Torah is not of the Eternal, it is not the Spirit of the Messiah, but the spirit of the anti-messiah (1 John 4:3; 2 Tim 2:7; Dan 7:25).

In Galatians 3:10, it is written: “For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse. For it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who doesn’t continue in all things that are written in the book of the law, to do them.’”(HNV)

Here this quote from Deuteronomy 27:16 is used to describe the result of relating to the Torah in a wrong way, by using it as a means to self-justification. This is called “works of the law”, which is a theological term meaning “legalism”. If the Torah is used in this way, it will not bring anything other than a curse, for without faith, and in one’s own strength, it is impossible to fulfill the commandments the right way. This means that if you believe that you can obtain salvation by fulfilling the commandments in a legalistic, obligatory manner, you will be under a curse, for you do not have the ability to do it in your own strength. You need HaShem’s grace to receive forgiveness for mistakes. The expression “works of the law” does not mean to obey the Torah, but it is talking about a wrong way of fulfilling the commandments, by doing it to receive merit and earning approval for salvation on a scale where the good deeds on one side outweigh the bad deeds on the other side. This is a deceptive way of thinking. Salvation is not earned by merits.

The only way to be rid of the condemnation of your sin is that someone takes your place. In the sacrificial system that is described in Leviticus, we see how innocent animals had to carry the guilt of man. By this the Eternal, through his great compassion, forgave the people who were repentant.

However, animals cannot replace man. They are all shadows of the true sacrifice that was given once and for all, as a substitute, so that we could be forgiven on a judicially righteous basis. HaShem is righteous and he forgives us on account of Yeshua’s death.

Those who received forgiveness for their sins through the temple sacrifices received it because of the sacrifice of Yeshua, which is reflected in the temple sacrifices. Without the sacrifice of Yeshua, the temple sacrifices would not have any value (Rom 3:25-26).

If a person tries to replace his evil deeds with good deeds, even though the good deeds are in line with the Torah, he cannot remove the curse that came because of the disobedience, even if the disobedience was only against one single commandment. He needs to come to the Eternal for forgiveness, and acknowledge that he cannot save himself.

“The Anointed One redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us–for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—“ (Gal 3:13 ESV revised)

Thanks to the Eternal who has supplied with a substitute to deliver us from curse, sin and death!

A compilation of news reports from the past week for the information of those committed to praying
David’s Comment:  What in the World Has Happened to America  ???
A Messianic Ministry Based on Mt Carmel
Address:

I received the following information from  The Omega Letter Intelligence Digest Sunday, August 14, 2010 edition.  What you are about to read will or should shock you  ……  (you can click on the links to read more on each point)   These are just a few of the travesties against Christianity that are taking place in the only nation founded on the Old & New Testaments.  On the US Dollar note it boldly states  IN GOD WE TRUST  –  After reading the following accounts one must surely ask  ” what god is that referring to ?” or what in the world has happened to the once strongly Christian,  United States of America.”

You can’t pray on the steps of the Supreme Court.  You can’t preach from the Scriptures at a Gay Pride Parade.  A New Mexico federal judge warned a graduating class that he was sending a US Marshall to their graduation to ensure nobody said the Name ‘Jesus’ or they would spend six months in jail.  “Anyone who violates these orders, no kidding, is going to wish that he or she had died as a child when this court gets through with it,” the judge told the students.

A teacher at the Lynn Lucas Middle School in Houston Texas threw away two students’ “Truth for Youth” Bibles, calling them “garbage.” She then took the students to the principal’s office where she threatened to call Child Protective Services on their parents for permitting them to bring their Bibles.  Later at the same school, different officials threw away students’ book covers showing the Ten Commandments, claiming the commandments were hate speech and could offend students.

Senior citizens in Balch Springs, Texas were forbidden from saying grace before meals because the food they were grateful for was federally-subsidised.   Praying over federally-subsidized food violates the provisions of the 1st Amendment where it says, “Congress shall make no rule respecting the establishment of religion nor prohibit the free exercise thereof.”

In another case, school officials at the University of New Orleans denied Michelle Beadle permission to hand out an evangelistic tract that encourages Jewish people to embrace Jesus Christ as the true Messiah.  The university told Beadle, a Messianic Jew who works as a missionary for Christian Jew Foundation Ministries, that the content of the literature ‘may be offensive’ to some people.

There are probably dozens, if not hundreds of similar instances of this kind of extreme anti-Christian persecution.  If the founding fathers could see what is taking place in America today, they would be spinning in their graves.  How did it come to this ?     Have you ever heard of Muslims being told they can’t pray.  They stop and pray anywhere they like. Can you imagine the furore if they were told they can’t pray on public property.  Remember what happened in Denmark over an insulting cartoon.  Imagine what the media would say if Muslim prayer was banned except inside their Mosques.

I believe the Church, has been asleep or afraid to fight for the Faith  and has allowed the Athiests, the Satanists, the Islamists and the Gay brigade to get such a big foot in the door, there is no turning back.  The Body of Messiah needs to learn from our enemies and indignantly resist the encroachment of the enemy.  They never give up.  If they lose one battle, they retreat, regroup and attack again, until they achieve their demands.

And then there is the Mosque they want to build at Ground Zero.  3000 innocent people died when the Twin Towers were destroyed by 19 Muslim terrorists and yet they have the audacity to want to build a shrine to worship Allah.  In times past they wouldn’t have stood a chance but in today’s PC world, there is only a very limited outcry against this offense  to the memory of those who perished.  I believe most Americans are appalled by the thought of a Mosque so close to Ground Zero, but most don’t dare raise their voice against it. Even New York’s Jewish mayor is in favour of it.  Someone please suggest to Mayor Bloomberg that he should builds a synagogue or church anywhere in Saudi Arabia and see how far he gets.

I believe that the two greatest threats to Western civilization are the Muslims and the Gays.  Our nations bend over backwards to appease both groups.  Seems the West has forgotten how Islam has tried to wipe out Judaism and Christianity in the past, and that the ultimate goal of Islam is world domination under Allah.  In the past they used outright force and violence to achieve their goal, but in our time the ‘peaceful majority’ work quietly behind the scenes taking advantage of the Western worlds foolish ‘political correctness’, while the radical minority continue their murderous Jihad.  However, the goals of both are identical – to subdue and dominate the rest of the world and it seems the Jewish & Christian nations are their primary target.

You don’t have to be a professor to see how the gays have been working furiously to impose their abominable sexual orientation upon the normal world.  Like the Muslims they have been working quietly behind the scenes and more radically out in the open.  They too us political correctness and human rights to brainwash the rest of us into accepting their abominable practices as normal.  They too never give up.  Praise the Lord, their attempt to have Gay marriage legalised in California has been blocked.  But mark my words, they will be back to try again before too long.  And they will probably get their wicked way because the rest of us are silent.  I have said this before and I will say it again – it is time for the people of God to get MILITANT  –  spiritually in prayer and with the secular media.

Actually there are 3 main threats to Western civilization.  Who is the 3rd ?  I am glad you asked !   its YOU & ME – if we dont rise up, speak up and front up to oppose the flood of evil that is engulfing us.   As you contemplate this article and wonder  “What in the World Has Happened to America ?”  consider you own nation –  it probably isn’t too far behind the United States.

1.  John Bolton: Russia’s Loading of Nuke Fuel Into Iran Plant Means Aug. 21 Deadline for Israeli Attack    Aug 13th David  A. Patten
News that Russia will load nuclear fuel rods into an Iranian reactor has touched off a countdown to a point of no return, a deadline by which Israel would have to launch an attack on Iran’s Bushehr reactor before it becomes effectively “immune” to any assault, says former Bush administration U.N. Ambassador John R. Bolton.  Once the fuel rods are loaded, Bolton told Fox News on Friday afternoon, “it makes it essentially immune from attack by Israel. Because once the rods are in the reactor an attack on the reactor risks spreading radiation in the air, and perhaps into the water of the Persian Gulf.”   Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin declared in March that Russia would  start the Bushehr reactor this summer. But the announcement from a spokesman for Russia’s state atomic agency to Reuters Friday sent international diplomats scrambling to head off a crisis.
The story immediately became front-page news in Israel, which has laid precise plans to carry out an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities while going along with President Obama’s plans to use international sanctions and diplomatic persuasion to convince Iran’s clerics not to go nuclear.  Bolton made it clear that it is widely assumed that any Israeli attack on the Bushehr reactor must take place before the reactor is loaded with fuel rods.  “most people think that neither Israel nor the United States, come to that, would attack the reactor after it’s been fueled.”
The developments mean Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu soon may face a stark choice: Attack the Bushehr reactor in the next 8 days, or allow it to become operational despite the certainty it would greatly enhance Iran’s ability to create nuclear weapons.   The failure to demand it be shut down began in the Bush years, he said,  and continues with the Obama administration “under what I believe is the mistaken theory that Iran is entitled to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.”    Russia’s move would put Iran “in a much better position overall,” he said, adding, “I think this is a very delicate point, as I say, it closes off to the Israelis one possible target for pre-emptive military action.  U.N. sanctions against Iran, he said, “have not had and will not have any material effect on Iran’s push to have deliverable nuclear weapons.”
Please pray that any attack by Israel and or the USA  will not ignite a major M.E. war

2. Hezbollah Prepares for War   Yahoo News  Aug 13th
With tensions mounting along their shared border, Israel’s military says Hezbollah is moving fighters and weapons into the villages of south Lebanon, building up a secret network of arms warehouses, bunkers and command posts in preparation for war.   The Israeli military has begun releasing detailed information about what it calls Hezbollah’s new border deployment,  four years after a cross-border raid by its guerrillas triggered a 34-day war.  Israel’s military says Hezbollah has changed strategy since the last war, moving most of its fighters and weapons from wooded rural areas into villages. It says the aim is to avoid detection and use to civilians for cover if war erupts.  The military says all of this exists under the nose of 12,000 international peacekeepers who, by their own count, conduct up to 340 patrols a day in south Lebanon but are hobbled by a hostile population and rules preventing them from searching private property.
In an interview with The Associated Press on Mount Adir, a hill overlooking the border, an officer from the military’s Northern Command pointed through the summer haze at the village of Aita al-Shaab.   One of its southernmost buildings, a white structure housing mentally handicapped children, is a Hezbollah lookout post, the officer said. Several guerrilla command posts are in civilian buildings in the centre of Aita al-Shaab, she said, with several dozen fighters able to move among houses through underground tunnels. The military would not allow her name to be used because of the sensitivity of her job.   The village also houses a network of warehouses holding arms trucked in from Iran via Syria, she said, some in stand-alone structures and some in smaller stashes in garages, basements and buried under backyards.
The officer said the guerrillas now have 5,000 fighters operating in the buffer zone between the border and the Litani River a strip ranging from 5 kilometres to 30 kilometres (3 miles to 18 miles) wide which is supposed to be free of militant activity under the 2006 cease-fire. In late 2009, Nasrallah said Hezbollah’s rocket arsenal stood at 30,000. Israel says it’s now about 40,000.  In preparation for a new round against Hezbollah, the Israeli military has simulated parts of south Lebanon at a training base called Elyakim, about an hour’s drive south from the border. A second facility in central Israel is nearing completion.   One day in late July, near a mock Lebanese village of grey concrete, a company of sweating Israeli infantry recruits staged a manoeuvre through thick Lebanese-style undergrowth, complete with rockets hidden in the bushes and bombs camouflaged as rocks.  A square metal cover on the earth opened onto a concrete tunnel where Lt. Natan Mann stood in the dark, drilling his men for the real thing.   “The army has made tactical changes and changes in its mindset,” said Mann, 23, one hand on the plastic grip of his rifle. “We’re either at war, or we’re training for war.”
Please pray that the Lord will move His hand mightly in the future war with Lebanon & Syria

3. Israel, PA Reported On Verge of Direct Talks    ICEJ News  Aug 16th
According to various press reports over the weekend, Israel and the Palestinian Authority are on the verge of publicly agreeing to direct talks, although there is still uncertainty whether both sides will accept the terms of reference for such negotiations expected to be issued by the Mideast Quartet by Tuesday.  Reuters reported over the weekend that, according to a letter in its possession signed by the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton, PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas is ready to announce this week his readiness to finally move to direct negotiations with Israel, some 18 months after Benjamin Netanyahu became prime minister.
The Quartet “should help President Abbas rally enough support, both at home and abroad, to engage in direct talks,” Ashton reportedly said. Ashton added in the letter that Israel must stop building in Jewish settlements in the West Bank and other conditions, which she said must “be issued concurrently with the announcement of the launch of direct talks.”   The impending Quartet statement is expected to reaffirm a March 19 communique’ which called for a halt to all Israeli settlement activity and a final peace accord to be implemented within two years.  Reuters also quoted a senior Palestinian official as saying that the talks would be based on the idea of establishing a Palestinian state “on the basis of pre-1967 borders. This language is what has been accepted in all the agreements over the past 18 years by Israeli prime ministers, including Netanyahu in his first term.”  But senior officials in the Prime Minister’s Office insisted on Sunday that  Netanyahu is not budging from his long held position that there must be no preconditions for direct talks.
Abbas is also reported to be backing down from his insistence that he will not enter into direct talks unless Israel first agrees to extend the settlement freeze past its current September 26 deadline and to expand it to include eastern Jerusalem as well. He reportedly is now ready to accept a watered down statement by the Quartet that Israel should not be building in West Bank settlements, and is planning to seek approval from the PLO Executive Committee by Tuesday for this change in position.  Meanwhile, the Hamas terror militia that rules the Gaza Strip has been urging Abbas not to agree to the talks. On Sunday, Palestinian factions in the rejectionist front warned that the talks were dangerous for Palestinian interests. “Insisting on direct talk throws a life line to Israel as its isolation deepens,” said a Hamas statement, which was also signed by Islamic Jihad, Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine. “A return to direct talks serves the US and Zionist aim to liquidate the national rights of the Palestinian people.”
Please pray that the Israeli negotiating team do not cave in to Arab,US, UN, or EU demands

Palestinian Authority Arab terrorist groups have stepped up their attacks in Judea and Samaria as pressure over Israel-PA negotiations increases. Two IDF soldiers and a civilian woman were wounded in rock-throwing attacks in the past week. In other such assaults, vehicles were damaged, but the passengers escaped injury.  PA officials recently admitted Chairman Mahmoud Abbas is under intense pressure to agree to direct negotiations with Israel.  Abbas has demanded that Israel freeze construction east of the 1949 armistice line and agree to use the line as the base for negotiations on the borders of a PA state.  Only when Israel concedes will the PA begin talks, he says. Recent reports suggest Israel is under pressure to agree to Abbas’ demands. On Friday, the London-based Arabic daily Al-Hayyat reported PM Binyamin Netanyahu has agreed to give Abbas 90% of Judea and Samaria for the establishment of a PA state, and to forcibly expel the roughly 50,000 Jews living in the area.
4. PA Violence Continues Even Though Direct Peace Talks Near   Israel National News   Aug 14th
Please pray that Israel will not enter into any agreement while the Arabs continue to reject Israel’s right to exist

5.  Israel Preparing Massive Underground Bomb Shelters     ICEJ News  Aug 19th
Israel is planning to build massive new underground bomb shelters in train stations and other public facilities, and will upgrade older shelters, all for use in case of anticipated missile barrages and chemical or biological attacks. “The State of Israel is preparing to build additional large underground spaces which would be able to absorb tens of thousands of people and protect them from non-conventional weapons for a long period of time,” Major-General Ronny Seri, head of the Home Front Command’s fortification department, told Yedioth Ahronoth on Tuesday. The new spaces are being built with state of the art air filters, medical facilities and communications lines. The new train station in southern Jerusalem will be equipped with a shelter 80 meters underground to protect up to 5,000 people against a chemical or biological attack. The subway in Haifa, a new underground parking garage in Holon, and the recently renovated Habima theater in Tel Aviv are also being planned for use as emergency public shelters against unconventional attack
Please pray for these shelters to be ready in time for the next attack against Israel

6. Algeria, Lebanon Sending Blockade Runners to Gaza   ICEJ News   Aug 19th
Israel’s Channel 10 TV news reported on Thursday that a ship from Algeria is on its way to attempt to run the Israeli naval blockade of the Gaza Strip. The ship, which is sponsored by the Libyan government and organized by a private group called the Muslim Wise Men, has several prominent religious and political leaders aboard in addition to food, educational materials and medical supplies. Meantime, the Lebanese ship the “Miriam,” named after the Virgin Mary and carrying aid and some 70 female activists, will set sail from Lebanon on Sunday in hopes of breaking the Israeli blockade, even though Cyprus has warned the vessel will not be allowed to pass through its waters. A senior Cyprus official said today his nation has a “moral and legal responsibility” to those entering its waters, and that a blockade-busting ship could endanger lives along with “regional peace and stability,” a clear reference to the deadly Mavi Marmara incident in late May. Lebanese leaders have refused to meet with the flotilla sponsors, indicating the mission does not have their blessing. Israel has eased the Gaza blockade in recent weeks to allow everything in except weapons and dual use materials, but anti-Israel activists still appear determined to make their point. Former British MP George Galloway, whose group Viva Palestina is preparing its own aid flotilla for September, said this week:  “We are at a moment when pressure can be brought to bear as never before to frustrate Israel’s moves to crush the Palestinians.”
Please pray that these ships will be turned back before that even get close to confronting the Israeli navy

7. Hamas on Killing spree in Gaza   Alex Fishman   YNet news  Aug 9th
News about bodies occasionally found at sea are published by Gaza newspapers. The number of such bodies isn’t huge, yet not all those drowning victims chose to go swimming voluntarily. The Gazans who found their death at sea include mid-level officials at sensitive government ministries.  Some of them were shot in the head before being sent on their swim. There is a common denominator to these deaths: All of the victims were designated as traitors by the secret service of Hamas’ military wing in charge of counter-espionage and executed as collaborators. And these are not just simple collaborators, but rather, people who penetrated deep into Hamas’ government; so deep that Hamas leaders are embarrassed to expose the failure and prefer to make these people disappear, with or without a brief court-martial.
These are clear signs of distress for Hamas’ regime… The group failed to breach the naval blockade, failed to breach the obstacle of global recognition (Hamas flirts with the Norwegians and Swiss, who make great promises without the ability to deliver) and failed to breach the obstacle of Arab recognition… Meanwhile, the religious pressure keeps building up inside the Strip. Religious laws are becoming stricter and expand: Beardless men feel unease, while women are not allowed to smoke nargilas and must don a burqa, and so on. Gaza’s streets are becoming Iran-like.
Hamas’ frustration already comes with a price: The recent rockets fired at Ashkelon and Sderot were shot by Hamas’ military wing, without notifying the group’s political leadership. There is no doubt that this fire aimed to destroy the calm and reignite the conflict against Israel & However, Hamas suffered a greater embarrassment following the delusional rocket attack on Eilat, which ended up killing and wounding people in Jordan’s Aqaba of all places.
Please pray that the world will wake up the wickedness of Hamas

Obama, a ‘Strategic Catastrophe’
Israeli officials say it’s not Iran that is Israel’s greatest threat | Aviel Schneider

Netanyahu to Obama: Let my people…STAY!

Although Israeli officials publicly play down the crisis in relations between Jerusalem and Washington, privately the language is much different. Sources close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu describe Obama as a “strategic catastrophe” for Israel.

Officials in the Prime Minister’s Office, speaking on condition of anonymity to the nation’s top newspapers, see the Obama administration as a serious threat to the future of the State of Israel. On the record, Israel and the US have a “strategic partnership that is unbreakable”; off the record, the terminology is blunt to say the least.

“President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have drawn a clear line, supporting the Palestinian position at the expense of Israel,” said one Netanyahu confidant. “It is insane, it is sick. Relations between Jerusalem and Washington are simply disastrous; the situation has never been so dangerous. This US President wants to establish a Palestinian state at any price and hand them Jerusalem on a silver platter.”

Netanyahu has repeatedly distanced himself from such statements, but commentators say the government speaks with a forked tongue. “Israel’s relations with the US are at a low point, and Obama poses a danger to Israel,” wrote Nahum Barnea in the nation’s biggest newspaper Yediot Ahronot.

The feeling among the Israeli public is that Obama is appeasing the Muslim world at the expense of Israel.

“The American President told me in confidence that he is a Muslim,” said Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Nile TV. That could explain why Obama has instructed that the term “Islamic extremism” no longer be used in official government documents and statements.

Furthermore, the US is now accusing Israel of harming American interests in the Middle East. General David Petraeus, the head of US Central Command, said Israel’s intransigence on resolving the conflict with the Palestinians is endangering US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Even the US Congress considers Obama’s behavior toward Netanyahu humiliating. Three-quarters of the House of Representatives, 337 of 435 members, signed a bipartisan letter to Clinton expressing “deep concern over recent tension” between the two countries, and demanding that it be smoothed over quickly and in private.

“Obama is a real problem for Israel,” a senior official told told Yediot. “He is Israel’s biggest strategic catastrophe.”

The newspaper also quoted another official who believes that for the first time Washington has switched sides. “The Obama White House is putting pressure only on Israel but does not expect anything from the Palestinians,” he said. “These American demands are unacceptable.”

“The Americans know very well that Israeli construction has always been happening in East Jerusalem and building in Jewish neighborhoods has never been frozen,” said another official. “The Americans use excuses like [the Jewish neighborhood of] Ramat Shlomo and the Shepherd Hotel [another Jewish building project in East Jerusalem] to confront Netanyahu.”

So during Passover, Netanyahu invited Nobel Prize-winning author and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel to his private residence in Caesaria. He urged Wiesel, who is an American citizen, to make it clear to his good friend Obama how important Jerusalem is to the Jewish people.

“Jerusalem was, is and always will be the united capital of Israel,” said Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat. “Construction in all parts of Jerusalem will continue.”

According to a poll by the Independent Media Review & Analysis, 70 percent of Israeli Jews oppose a construction freeze in East Jerusalem, compared to only 19 percent who support it. The survey also found that 69 percent believe the division of Jerusalem with international control of the Old City would lead to ongoing conflict rather than peace.

Officials in Netanyahu’s inner circle believe Obama’s strategy is to force a change of government in Israel. By forcing Israeli concessions on the “settlement” issue, hawks could bolt the coalition, pushing Netanyahu into an alliance with the dovish Kadima party. Kadima is led by former Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, who, under the previous Olmert government, offered the Palestinians an independent state in 97 percent of the disputed territories with a capital in East Jerusalem.

Obama has been buoyed by his domestic success in passing the historic health care reform bill. And he may believe that he can extend that victory to the international arena by resolving the Middle East conflict. But if Obama continues to underestimate Israeli resolve on Jerusalem, his peace efforts are doomed to failure.

Reporting the Truth…

August 6, 2010

 – Barry Rubin reports…
.
Along Israels border with Lebanon some bushes were pushing in on the border fence. The fence is set in slightly from the border precisely so that Israeli soldiers can work on it. The IDF called UNIFIL and informed the UN that this work was going to be done today so that they could tell the Lebanese army that there was no aggression going on but just routine maintenance. Soldiers from UNIFIL came to observe and can be seen standing next to Israeli soldiers in the photos. Photographers were also standing by to film the operation. But Lebanese soldiers opened fire on the Israelis who were working and in no way acting aggressively. The fact that journalists were standing next to the Lebanese soldiers shows that they knew Israel was going to do this maintenance and were observing. After the Israeli soldiers were ambushed, they returned fire. One Israeli officer was killed, another seriously wounded; three Lebanese soldiers, and a Lebanese (?) journalist were killed.   So how did Reuters and Yahoo report this?  By saying that Israeli soldiers had crossed into Lebanon and been fired on, thus implying the Lebanese army was acting in self-defense! Other news agencies merely reported: Israel says the soldiers were inside Israel; Lebanon says they were on Lebanese territory.

Reuters: “An Israeli soldier is seen on a crane on the Lebanese side of the Lebanese-Israeli border near Adaisseh village, southern Lebanon August 3, 2010. Israeli artillery shelled the Lebanese village on Tuesday, wounding two people, after Lebanese Army troops fired warning shots at Israeli soldiers.”

Yahoo: “A Lebanese officer spoke on condition of anonymity under military guidelines, said the clash occurred as Israeli troops tried to remove a tree from the Lebanese side of the border.” No Israeli is quoted.

AP also missed explaining the story properly: “The violence apparently erupted over a move by Israeli soldiers to cut down a tree along the border, a sign of the high level of tensions at the frontier where Israel fought in 2006 with the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah….There was no sign of any extensive Israeli preparations for a large-scale operation – an early indication the clash might not trigger a wider conflict.”  By the way, AP was so “accurate” as to correct the name of their photographer but not the biased inaccuracy of its facts!
The New York Times also takes a “neutral” approach: “Each side blamed the other for the flare-up, trading accusations of violating the United Nations Security Council resolution that underpins the four-year cease-fire.” But what is most amazing is the additional information that tells us more about contemporary journalism than almost anything you can read:
“Israel said that its forces were engaged in routine maintenance work in a gap between the so-called Blue Line, the internationally recognized border, and its security fence, and that it had coordinated in advance with the United Nations peacekeeping force in South Lebanon, UNIFIL.”

Hello? Can’t the mighty New York Times contact the UNIFIL offices and find out that Israel’s story is true? Indeed, isn’t it indicated by the UNIFIL presence as observer? Well, it isn’t surprising since the same newspaper is unable to find the evidence, publicly available, that the Turkish IHH group that organized the Gaza flotilla had a history of being a terrorist-supporting group.  Oh, and then there’s this amazing little example of bias in the article:  “Israeli and Lebanese army troops exchanged lethal fire on their countries’ border on Tuesday, in what was the fiercest clash in the area since Israel’s month long war against the Lebanese Hezbollah militia in the summer of 2006.”

So, there’s no mention of the cause of the war: a Hizballah attack into Israeli territory, killing several Israeli soldiers and kidnapping two who were taken into Lebanon. According to the great “newspaper of record,” Accorfing to the Times, Israel just arbitrarily attacked Lebanon in 2006, just as it is said to be doing in 2010.  The truth, however, is easy to ascertain–did Israel announce the maintenance, permit the photographers and UN people to watch and then cross deliberately into Lebanon?–but Israel is being portrayed as an aggressor that caused the outbreak of fighting. So millions of people will either believe that Israel was at fault or that the event is in question.

The narrative, however, is simple: In an unprovoked attack, Lebanese soldiers fired on Israelis and murdered one soldier.  If the mass media cannot get this right how can it report accurately on other situations like the following:
2000: Israel offers to return the entire Golan Heights to Syria in exchange for full peace. Syria refuses.
2000: Israel offers to accept an independent Palestinian state in all of the Gaza Strip, almost all of the West Bank, and most of east Jerusalem. The Palestinian Authority refuses.
2008: Hamas tears up a ceasefire, begins massive mortar and rocket attacks on Israeli civilians, Israel defends itself.
2010: A Turkish pro-terrorist organization trying to help Hamas, a genocidal and antisemitic terrorist group, sends self-described jihadis on a ship who chant slogans about killing Jews and being Jihadi martyrs. When Israeli soldiers land, the Jihad warriors attack them with weapons and kidnap several. Israeli forces rescue the soldiers, killing nine attackers in the operation.

Note, though, that the Times discounted the video of Israeli soldiers being attacked by claiming–with no evidence–that perhaps Israeli forces had been shooting beforehand at unarmed civilians on the ship!   But if the media cannot even get right a previously announced, UN-approved, maintenance activity on Israeli territory then what hope is their getting right anything more complex?    Here’s a video of the attack from Reuters.

To its credit, the Canadian Broadcasting Company issued a correction saying that the tree’s location is disputed and changing the photo caption to say the tree is “near” the border rather than on the Lebanese side.  We now have a UNIFIL official on record as saying that the Israeli soldiers who were attacked were on Israeli territory. Which mainstream media outlets will or won’t cover this fact?

SHABBOT SHALOM!

July 30, 2010

Eph 6:11-12 “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (NKJ)

We are in an ongoing battle every moment of our lives. In every decision that we make, we have a choice to obey God and bring Him glory, or to disobey Him and cause Him grief, regardless of anyone else knowing of this choice. Everything that we do echoes in the spiritual realm, every thought, every whim, every attitude and every word. As Shaul (Paul) wrote in the above verse, it is not against flesh and blood that we wrestle, but against principalities, powers and spiritual hosts. Out of all the armour of God stated in Eph 6, the Sword of the Spirit is the only offensive weapon that we have.  All the others are
defensive weapons that are designed to keep us from the fiery arrows that the enemy sends our way. The only weapon that we have to strike back at the enemy is the sword. There is a famous saying that I think we have all heard at one point or another in our lives: “The best defence is a strong offence”.  Wars and battles are not won by being on the defensive, but by attacking, striking hard at the enemy and advancing forward until he either surrenders or withdraws.

It is for good reason that it is called the ‘Sword of the Spirit’  because it is a spiritual weapon and we must be in the Spirit in order to use it. Our sword is the living word of God that is “…powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Heb 4:12, NKJ). But in order for it to be affective, we must know how to use it and be skilled in handling it. How can a soldier go to war with a weapon that he does not know how to use? Just imagine a soldier throwing his M-4
rifle at the enemy instead of shooting at him with it – not very effective. Also think of a soldier who knows how to use his M-4, meaning he knows how to fire it, but it takes him forever to change a clip, or he only know how to fire standing up, but not squatting, sitting, kneeling or lying down. This is not how a trained, skilled soldier is to perform in battle.  So we must know how to use our sword and be skilled in it.

A perfect example can be found in Matt 3:16 going into Matt 4. Yeshua goes through ‘Tironut’ or ‘Basic Training – Boot Camp’ in English.  It is the first time that we see that the enemy tempted Yeshua.  The first thing we see is that after He was baptized Yeshua was filled with the Spirit and was then moved by the Spirit into the desert. Notice the importance of being in the Spirit. Before His baptism Yeshua did not perform any miracles nor minister in anyway. We are only told that He grew in wisdom and stature before God and men. In the desert the enemy came to Yeshua in order to attack Him. Notice the pattern in the temptations:

First, Satan attacks Yeshua in the weakness / vulnerability of His flesh. Yeshua was hungry after fasting for 40 days already and the enemy tries to get Him to turn stones into bread. Notice how Yeshua, being filled with the Spirit strikes the enemy with the Sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God) with much skill and precision. He knows exactly how to use His weapon to refute the attack of the enemy.

Secondly, the enemy tries to use the word to cause Yeshua to fall. The enemy is doing two things here – 1/ he is twisting and perverting the word of God from the truth that is in it and  2/ he is attacking the sovereignty of God the Father over Yeshua’s life. Again Yeshua knows how to strike skillfully with the truth of the word against the perversion of the word.

Thirdly, the enemy offers Yeshua a short cut and a cheap alternative of the real promise given by the Father (Psalm 110:1). Yeshua knows why He has come, He knows what is planned for Him and what He must do. Heb 12:2 “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (NKJ).   Again Yeshua strikes the devil with the word of God and the enemy finally flees from Him just as is written in James 4:7 “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (NKJ).  Then the angels come and minister to Him both physically (food) and spiritually,  I believe. What a perfect example of how we are to stand in the word and use it in the spirit to come against the enemy’s attacks, resisting (defending and counter-attacking) until he flees!

Another prime example is young King David when fighting against Goliath (read 1 Sam 17:45-50). David is skilled in his simple weapons – the slingshot and
the shepherds staff, but not with all of Saul’s armour and weaponry. He goes out against Goliath with what he is skilled in. I believe that David was filled with and moved by the Spirit at that moment as it was not normal for him to do what he did in that situation. Goliath curses David and his God, the God of Israel. Goliath wishes to enslave Israel. His words are lofty and come against the word of God. David speaking prophetically with boldness declares to Goliath exactly what is about to happen to him and this soon comes to pass. There was a spirit working in Goliath that exalted itself against the knowledge of God and His truth that was cut down and destroyed by a brave freckly red head who knew God’s word, was skilled in it, was brave and saw beyond Goliath’s size, armour and battle experience to God’s promises, purposes and desires.

2 Cor 10:3-5 “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ…” (NKJ)

The apostles were commanded by the Lord not to leave Jerusalem until they were filled with power from on high, until they were filled with the Spirit. Walking in the Spirit is the living out the New Covenant. Only in the Spirit can we walk according to God’s commandments.  Only in the Spirit are we in tune with our Master, our Abba (Father) to do His will, just as Yeshua was. Of course we will always fail and wrestle with our flesh, but still that is our goal and our vision.

In these days there are many spirits that exalt themselves against the knowledge of God concerning those who are the Lord’s and also the nation of Israel. Let us become more skilled in the Word. Let us proclaim the word over out lives and over the nation of Israel. The enemy will keep attacking because he knows that his time is short, but we have a weapon that is “living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit…”   to strike back with. Let us walk in the Spirit and make full use of our spiritual sword – the Word of God.

1. Remains of IDF Crewman Recovered From Crash Site in Romania   ICEJ News   July 28th
IDF recovery teams have found the remains of six Israeli Air Force crewman and their Romanian comrade killed when their CH-53 transport helicopter crashed during a training mission in Romania Monday night. The team, which included troops from the elite search-and-rescue unit 669, Oketz elite canine unit which includes dogs specially trained to locate body parts, Rabbinical Corps, Medical Corps and Spokesperson’s Unit landed in Romania early Wednesday morning and were immediately taken to the crash site in the Carpathian mountains by their Romanian hosts, who had rushed to secure the site early Tuesday morning. “The wreckage is scattered over a large area,” a senior IDF officer told the Jerusalem Post. “The teams are at the site working to collect the remains and pieces of the wreckage which are required for the air force’s investigation into what caused the crash.” Despite the remote location and steep terrain, Romanian officials managed to recover the aircrafts black box Tuesday evening, and the investigation is focusing on either mechanical failure or possibly pilot error in the thick fog and high winds as possible causes of the crash.
Please pray the the Holy Spirit will comfort & touch the family & friends who are grieving at this tragic loss

2.  Gaza Rockets Pound Southern Israel   Israel Today News   July 25th
Palestinian terrorists operating out of the Gaza Strip fired four rockets and two mortar shells at communities in southern Israel on Saturday.  There were no injuries in any of the attacks, as all the projectiles landed just outside local Israeli villages.  Defense officials noted that at least one of the Palestinian rockets was manufactured in a very professional manner, and they believe it had been imported into the Hamas-controlled territory.   Israeli officials have been warning for months and even years that despite international guarantees and feeble efforts to prevent arms smuggling into Gaza, terrorists based there has managed to acquire large quantities of long and short-range weapons. The presence of these weapons will inevitably lead to renewed open warfare in the area.   Please pray for supernatural protection over the citizens that are under fire from these rockets and mortars

3. Gaza Rockets Strike Asheklon    ha Aretz News   July 30th
A Grad-type Katyusha rocket fired by Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip struck close to an apartment building in a residential area of Ashkelon on Friday, while two mortar shells exploded in the western Negev just a few hours later.   The Katyusha rocket hit the populated neighborhood just after 8:30 A.M., causing some damage to the nearby building and to a number of parked cars. There were no casualties in the incident, but at least two people were treated for shock. Residents said that the Color Red rocket alert sounded prior to the explosion.  Police sapper removing Grad in Ashkelon At around 12:30 P.M., two mortar shells hit the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council.
The attack on Ashkelon was one of the first to strike the southern city after months of quiet since Israel launched a three week military campaign in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip in late 2008, called Operation Cast Lead in Israel.   “No doubt this is the most serious event that happened since Operation Cast Lead,” Ashkelon mayor Benny Vaknin told Israel Radio. The city is located about 12 km (7 miles) up the coast from the Gaza Strip and has some 125,000 residents
Please pray that the IDF locates and tapprehends those responsible for firing these rockets

4. PM NETANYAHU: No Extension to the 10 Month settlement Freeze    Jerusalem Post    July 25th
PM Binyamin Netanyahu said Monday that Israel will not extend a 10-month freeze in West Bank settlement construction, which is set to end in late September.  It was not clear whether Netanyahu was trying to pressure Palestinians to resume direct peace talks. Netanyahu noted that his cabinet declared the moratorium to encourage Palestinians to negotiate with Israel directly, instead of through the US.  He said the freeze was limited in time: “It has not changed and that’s how it will be.” (J.Post)  It is easy for those who have not visited Israel to picture “Israeli settlements,” so often in the news, as a few tents, huts or trailers in the wilderness; temporary camps with handfuls of Jewish zealots that could easily find other accommodations – if that’s all it would take to make peace with the Palestinians.  In fact, as of November 2009, approximately 280,000 Israelis live in the 121 officially-recognized settlements in the West Bank, a further 190,000 Israelis live in settlements in East Jerusalem.  Settlements range from farming communities to suburbs to frontier villages, and, in the case of East Jerusalem, city neighborhoods. The three largest settlements, Modi’in Illit, Maale Adumim and Betar Illit, are cities with over 30,000 residents each.  These Jewish communities include homes, schools, government buildings, shopping centers and thriving business. The US in past months has insisted that Israel forgo even natural growth construction to meet the need for additional schools, medical facilities, apartments, and shops. The reason for this is to accommodate the outrageous Palestinian hopes and demands that Israelis will eventually agree to walk away from these thriving towns and neighborhoods and turn them over to their enemies in exchange for a false peace.  It is an answer to many prayers that the Israeli government has now refused to continue the settlement freeze past late September. The agreement has borne only bad fruit. The Gaza Strip is an outstanding example of what always happens when Israel and her so called allies fall for the lie of peace with Islamists: Ongoing terrorist attacks, rocket assaults and years of Jewish work on homes and businesses destroyed.
Please pray for all round support for PM Netanyahu as he stands strong in God plan for the Jewish people to re-populate all of the Promised Land

5.  Israeli Volleyball Team Attacked in Turkey    Israel Today News  July 25th
An Israeli women’s volleyball team was assailed by violent protestors while playing an international match against Serbia in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Saturday.  Turkish rioters carrying Palestinian flags clashed with a large police force deployed at the event. The demonstrators also carried posters of Furkan Dogan, the youngest of nine so-called “peace activists” who were killed while attacking an Israeli boarding party that intercepted a Turkish-sponsored flotilla trying to break the maritime blockade of the Gaza Strip.  Israel last week lifted a travel advisory warning Israelis not to visit Turkey in the wake of the May 31 flotilla incident. Saturday’s attack suggested the travel advisory may have been lifted prematurely, and that Israelis visiting Turkey could still find themselves in danger simply for being Israeli.   Turkish hostility toward Israel has been mounting for some time, and the flotilla incident was merely an excuse to escalate it further. In February of this year, months before the flotilla incident, an Israeli basketball team playing in Turkey was pelted with glass bottles and forced to flee the court during a game.    Please pray for protection over all Israelis wherever they are in the World

6.  Former CIA Head:  US Attack on Iran Becoming More Likely  FOX News  July 24th
A former CIA director says military action against Iran now seems more likely because no matter what the U.S. does diplomatically, Tehran keeps pushing ahead with its suspected nuclear program.  Michael Hayden, a CIA chief under President George W. Bush, says that during his tenure a strike was “way down the list” of options. But he tells CNN’s “State of the Union” that such action now “seems inexorable.”   He predicts Iran will build its program to the point where it’s just below having an actual weapon. Hayden says that would be as destabilizing to the region as the real thing.  U.S. officials have said military action remains an option if sanctions fail to deter Iran.  Iran says its nuclear work is for peaceful purposes such as power generation.
Please pray for any such attack on Iran to be succesful with no loss of life on all sides

7.  Church Leaders Who Claim The God of Israel is Allah    Yale Education Website
A “who’s who” of evangelical Christian leaders, including Rick Warren, Robert Schuller, Brian McLaren, Richard Cizik and Bill Hybels, have signed a letter to the Muslim community entitled “Loving God And Neighbor Together” that openly equates Allah with the Christian God.  By affirming that Allah is God, the 300 Christian leaders in this letter are denying the Triune God of the Bible. The reality is that the Quran denies that Jesus Christ is the Son of God no less than nine times.  This letter represents apostasy of the highest order. It is another huge step towards the one world religion and one world church of the last days. The Christian ministers who signed this letter have denied their faith and have brought shame to their ministries and congregations. Therefore, we are calling for the immediate resignation of each and every Christian minister that signed this letter.    You can find a list of the Christian leaders that signed this letter here:    http://www.yale.edu/faith/acw/acw.htm    You will likely recognize quite a few names on that list.    Please pray that these apostate leaders wake up to the folly of their ways and repent before it is too late for them and the people they are  deceiving.

When iconic Seventies disco group Boney M rocked Ramallah this week, the local music festival prevented the band from performing one of its biggest hits.  Lead singer Maizie Williams said Palestinian concert organisers told her it was probably not the wisest of ideas to sing Rivers Of Babylon.   The song’s chorus quotes from the Book of Psalms, referring to the exiled Jewish people’s yearning to return to the biblical land of Israel.   Palestinians question the Jewish historical connection to the Holy Land, and organisers felt that it might have been ‘inappropriate’ for the band to play the song – and asked for it to be skipped in the set list.   Williams said: ‘I don’t know if it is a political thing or what, but they asked us not to do it.  ‘We were a bit disappointed that we could not do it because we know that everybody loves this song no matter what.’   The band performed its other big hits, like Ma Baker, Daddy Cool, and Rasputin in front of hundreds of fans.   Making people happy: Boney M star Maizie Williams says she does not want to worry about politics, concentraiting instead on entertaining.

Stefan’s Comment:  “The Lord is Not Slack Concerning His Promise”
2 Pet 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long-suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” (NKJ)

The spring season is a joyful time in the land of Israel as the land blossoms again after the winter rains and as we celebrate the spring feasts of the Lord (Lev 23). The holidays begin a few weeks before Passover, just at the end of the winter, when we celebrate the holiday of Purim. This holiday is not named a ‘feast of the Lord’ however it is rooted in the biblical story of Esther. In it we remember how God was faithful to save His people while in exile in the Medo-Persian empire from the hand of evil Haman. A few weeks later comes Passover and first fruits where we remember how we were brought out of Egypt with a strong hand and an outstretched arm.  Another 49 days later comes Pentecost when we remember the giving of the Law on Mt Sinai. Of course there is the fulfillment of these shadow pictures that came to pass 2000 years ago that we as believers rejoice in also.

Amongst these days are also memorial days for those who perished in the Holocaust and for the fallen IDF soldiers. Sometimes it is difficult to see beyond the death and grief that surround these days. Questions rise such as ‘how did God allow such things to happen?’, ‘how does this fit into God’s plan?’ and ‘how come so many people must die and how many more will?’. Sometimes it is easy to question God’s faithfulness to his people. It is  God’s faithfulness that I wish to share about.

An interesting parallel can be found when looking at the lives of Moses and Yeshua. Deuteronomy, chapter 18:15-19, says “The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear, according to all you desired of the LORD your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.’ And the LORD said to me: ‘What they have spoken is good. ‘I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. ‘And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him. (NKJ)

Here Moses is already speaking of Yeshua and describes Him as similar to himself. There are two attributes that are clearly visible both in Moses and in Yeshua. Numbers chapter 12 says: “Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth.” And also “Not so with My servant Moses; he is faithful in all My house. I speak with him face to face, even plainly, and not in dark sayings; and he sees the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid to speak against My servant Moses?”   Because Moses was an extremely humble man, the Lord intervened on his behalf when his brother Aaron and sister Miriam questioned his leadership. Also, we are told that Moses spoke with the Lord as a man speaks to his friend face to face. This is because Moses was faithful to God. How amazing to be called ‘humble in all the earth’ and ‘faithful in all God’s house’!

The same attributes can be found in Yeshua’s life and ministry. We learn from John that no one has seen the Father except the Son, and whoever sees the Son has seen the Father. Since no one can see God and live, it is obvious that Moses saw Yeshua hundreds of years before He even walked the earth, as it says that he saw the from of God. Yeshua is also described as faithful and humble as it is written in Revelation 19:11 “Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.” and in Matthew 21:5 “Tell the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your King is coming to you, lowly, and sitting on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”

God is faithful to fulfill His word and the promises that he has given. His ultimate act of faithfulness is the sending of His son, Yeshua, to become the scapegoat for us so that we may be reunited with the Father. Without that act of faithfulness we would not be here today, we would not know the love of God and we would have no hope.   I believe that God’s faithfulness can be seen best through the history of Israel. Faithfulness is something that can be measured only over a long period of time, and mainly in difficult situations. Israel has both.

We see that with all the Jewish people have gone through, we are still alive and kicking. The language that Moses wrote Genesis in thousands of years ago is still a spoken language today, and despite two diasporas, one of 70 years and the other of 1800 years Israel is still a nation today, settled in the same land our fore-
fathers dwelt in thousands of years ago.   A few verses that speaks volumes of God’s faithfulness to Israel are found in the 49 th chapter of Isaiah.  The beginning
of the chapter can make it seem as if only the nation of Israel is being mentioned. However in verses 5-6 it is clearly speaking of Yeshua and God’s faithfulness to Israel through the Messiah, to restore Israel and bring salvation to the ends of the earth:

“And now the LORD says, who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant, to bring Jacob back to Him, so that Israel is gathered to Him (for I shall be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, and My God shall be My strength), Indeed He says, ‘It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, that You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.'” (NKJ)

In these verses is the faithful promise to all the nations of the world, of salvation through the Servant (aka the Messiah).  A few verses down comes an amazing picture of how faithful God is to His people. Just imagine having a tattoo or engraving of someone’s name that you love on the palms of your hands. Today many people tattoo the names of their loved ones on their bodies so to always ‘carry’ them and be reminded of them. So God has engraved Israel on the palms of His hands, as He declares in verse 16:  “See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me.” (NKJ)

God is faithful. He is faithful to all who believe in Yeshua and call on His name. We are all in fact inscribed on the palms of His hands. Even though the people of Israel have had many dark hours, looking back we can see that God has never forgotten His people, He has never failed and has never been too late. So with our lives, even though it may seem like God is running a bit late on those promises, He is always right on time.

2 Pet 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” (NKJ)     This verse is speaking of salvation, but is it applicable to all that the Lord has promised us in His word, and personally through the Holy Spirit.   In the perilous times that lie ahead for us as believers and the nation of Israel, we must realize God’s faithfulness, we must stand on His promises that are ‘Yes and Amen’ and know that the Mighty One of Jacob will not let us fall.

THIS WEEKS NEWS REPORTS

1. Reports: Obama Preparing to Porce Israel’s Hand    Israel Today New    Apr 30
Israeli officials told Ha’aretz on Thursday that US President Barack Obama recently assured European leaders that if the Israeli-Palestinian peace process is not moving forward by September or October, he will convene an international peace summit.  The purpose of convening an international peace summit could only be to impose a peace settlement on the two sides, and if Obama’s policies of late are anything to judge by, that peace settlement would greatly favor the Arabs by incorporating nearly all their demands. Palestinian officials this week also said they had received assurances from US Middle East envoy George Mitchell that if Israel did not start complying with US-backed Arab demands soon, Obama would act to force Jerusalem’s hand.
The Palestinians are also threatening to unilaterally declare independence by October if Israel does not start meeting their demands. Israeli officials fear the UN would recognize such a declaration, and that the Obama Administration would do little or nothing to block it.  Recent history has demonstrated that such reports, which are often leaked as a pressure tactic against Israel, actually further delay peace negotiations as the Palestinians are all too happy to remain defiant and wait on the international community to strong-arm Israel.  The US and Europe remain mum on the fact that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly said he is ready to immediately restart direct bilateral negotiations, while the Palestinians refuse to sit with the Israelis and discuss anything.
Please pray the Obama will change his wicked ways or that he will be removed as the Lord sees fit

2.  Israeli Envoy Nearly Lynched in Britain    Israel Today News   Apr 30
The deputy chief of mission at the Israeli embassy in London was nearly lynched by Muslim and pro-Palestinian demonstrators after giving a speech at the University of Manchester on Wednesday.  Talya Lador-Fresher said that her speech was repeatedly disrupted by demonstrators hoisting Palestinian flags or yelling anti-Israel slogans. And when she tried to leave the premises, she found the exit blocked by angry protestors.  Fearing for the envoy’s safety, embassy security and Manchester police evacuated her through a side exit and into an police getaway car, but that too was attacked. Lador-Fresher said the demonstrators attempted to smash the windows of the police vehicle, apparently intent on doing her physical harm.  Lador-Fresher said that despite the severity of the incident, she intends to continue speaking on UK campuses, since being cowed by the attacks would only play into the hands of Israel’s enemies.  There were no reports of arrests following Wednesday’s attacks, which further demonstrated the violent anti-Israel atmosphere that is growing in the UK.  Please pray that these kind of anti-Semtiic attacks will cause Jewish people everywhere to go back to Israel

3. Palestinian Youth Was ‘Sent to Kill Jews’  Isrel Today News   Apr30
A 17-year-old Palestinian boy turned himself in to police in the northern town of Afula early Monday morning after confessing that he had been sent by his Palestinian handlers to “kill Jews.”  The boy arrived at the Afula police station carrying a plastic bag containing a large knife. The guard at the station asked the boy what he was doing, and the Palestinian did not hesitate to confess the purpose of his visit.  He was immediately arrested and taken in for questioning.   Police officials believe the boy was afraid to carry out his mission, and instead turned himself in. They are trying to determine who exactly sent the youth.   Please pray that all planned attacks will be exposed and prevented

4. Peres Insists Iran Sending Missiles to Hizbullah Via Syria   ICEJ News  May 4
Israeli President Shimon Peres told Danish Foreign Minister Lene Espersen on Sunday that Iran is sending long-range missiles, some originating in North Korea, to Syria and then on to Hizbullah in Lebanon. His comments came in relation to recent reports that Syria transferred Scud-D ballistic missiles to Hizbullah. To counter the growing missile threat along its borders, Israel has asked Washington for help in acquiring additional Iron Dome air defense batteries against short-range rockets. Two batterieshave already been delivered to the Israeli Air Force and will become operational shortly, but the IDF needs as many as a dozen more to adequately defend the borders with Gaza and Lebanon. “The logic from an American point of view is that it is better to help Israel feel protected and defend its cities than it is for Israel to be under attack and have to launch another operation in Gaza to protect itself,”
explained one Israeli official.
Please pray that these missile transfers will be spotted and aborted

5.  Egypt on Alert for Mass Break-out From Gaza   ICEJ News May 4
Egypt has declared a state of emergency on its border with Gaza after learning that Palestinians were planning a break-out en masse from the Strip. The move comes just days after four Palestinians were killed and six wounded in what Hamas charged was a poisonous gas attack on the tunnels by Egyptian forces. In denying the accusation, Egypt said a blast from a routine explosion to seal tunnels and the resulting fire could have quickly used up all the oxygen in the confined space, causing the victims to suffocate. Egypt has launched renewed efforts to shut down the tunnels, because they are used by Hamas to smuggle weapons into Gaza and terrorists in-and-out of the Strip.  Please pray that these plans of the Gazans come to nothing

While US special Mideast envoy George Mitchell met with top Israeli leaders on Thursday in hopes of launching three-way proximity talks by this weekend, Palestinian Authority officials sought to justify why they were finally joining the process, explaining that they will be negotiating with the US, not Israel.  “Indirect talks mean that we will negotiate with the Americans, who, for their part, will be negotiating with Israel,” a PA official in Ramallah told The Jerusalem Post. “It’s easier for us to negotiate with the Americans because they share most of our positions, especially on the issues of security and the future borders of the Palestinian state.”  hat the Arab League’s recent decision to support PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas joining the proximity talks came after the Obama administration “assured” Palestinian and Arab leaders it would exert “unprecedented pressure” on Israel to stop construction not only in the West Bank, but also in Jewish neighborhoods in east Jerusalem. “The Americans have promised to be tough with Israel, and we expect them to fulfill their pledge,” he said. Please pray that all such peaces talks are averted

Iran’s naval forces began large scale war games in the Persian Gulf on Wednesday, the second round of such exercises in less than a month. The “Velayat 89” exercises are scheduled to last eight days and cover about 97,000 square miles Iranian territorial waters. Navy chief Adm. Habibollah Sayyari declared that the Iranian Navy and Air Force will “show its might” as Iran remains locked in a standoff with the West over its renegade nuclear program. Just weeks ago, Iran held its annual “Great Prophet” war games in the same waters, which included simulations of attacks on oil tankers

8. Palestinians Ordered to Stop Buying from Jews    Israel Today News  May 7th
Palestinian Economic Minister Hassan Abu Libdeh on Thursday threatened Palestinian Arabs who do their weekly grocery shopping at Jewish supermarkets in Judea and Samaria.  In an interview with Al-Watan TV, Libdeh took aim at the thousands of Palestinians who shop at the two Rami Levy grocery stores located in Sha’ar Binyamin in Samaria and Mishor Adumim in Judea.  Libdeh said that the Palestinian Authority knows the names of those who shop at Rami Levy, and suggested action could be taken against their families if they do not stop.   In addition to those who shop at the supermarkets, a number of Palestinian Arabs are also employed at the two Rami Levy locations.  The new shopping ban comes just days after the PA revealed that Palestinians who do not stop working for Jewish contractors would face up to five years in prison.
Please pray that the people of Gaza & the West Bank will ignore these calls to boycott Israeli businesses

A Messianic Ministry Based on Mt Carmel
Address:

David’s Comment:   Israel is Being Disproportionate Again !
Psalm  121:4  He who watches over Israel  neither slumbers nor sleeps

Many countries and world leaders  as well as the media have accused Israel of responding disproportionately to aggression from Hizbollah in Lebanon and more recently Hamas in Gaza. True in the Lebanon war of 2006, 150 Israelis died and moire than 1500 in Lebanon died.  That does seem disproportionate until these facts are considered  ……..

1/ a third of the Israelis killed were civilians
2/ Hizbollah fired more than 4000 rockets into northern Israel  –  one rocket killed 9 men in a train repair workshop and another killed 12 soldiers sitting ina  filed waiting to be deployed.   So lets say each rocket had the potential to kill on average 10 people  – thats a potential death toll of 40,000, but the number was only 150.  Now thats what I call disproportionate!
3/ Israel was forced to go to war in Gaza due to the fact that 10,000 rockets were fired from Gaza into Southern Israel over 7 years. Again the death and injury count was disproportionately low, as near,y every rocket missed its mark.

What is even enormously more disproportionate is the size and power of the God of Israel, compared to anything or any other being in the Universe.  And He who watches over Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps.  That is why 90% plus of the rockets missed their targets.  Sadly much of the secular media seem to be on a personal vendetta against God, Bible believing Christians and Israel.

It is time that the world press and media speak of another disproportionate response from Israel.  The terrible disastrous earthquake in Haiti has generated responses from many nations. The US has sent supplies and personnel, Britain sent 64 firemen and 8 volunteers, France sent troops for Search and Rescue. Many large and wealthy nations of the world sent money. It is being reported that the Arab and Moslem world have sent nothing.

In a totally disproportionate effort, Israel, a tiny nation of only 7.5 million people has sent a team of 220 people that include medical personnel who have  established the largest field hospital in Haiti, treating up to 5000 people a day.. Nearly 100 Haitian children are currently being cared for at the Israeli facility, most of them in serious condition. One baby has been delivered so far by Israeli midwives. Israel also sent an experienced Search and Rescue team and two jumbo jets full of medical supplies. As in previous earthquake disasters, such as in Gujarat India in 2001 and in Turkey , in the bombings in Kenya , Israel has been one of the most generous givers of aid and assistance.  (Turkey seems to have forgotten this help as its extreme Moslem Government is cozying up to Iran) Judge Goldstone, where are you now? You should be eating your heart out and hanging your head down in shame.  The favorite occupation for the last 43 years in the UN is Israel bashing. More resolutions have been passed condemning Israel than all the so called democratic nations such as Sudan , China , Russia and others for their crimes against their minorities.  But when it comes to acknowledging Israel’s many positive attributes, the silence is deafening.  Where are all of the usually very vocal pro-Muslim anti-Israel protesters now ?  Obviously they are only interested in venting their anti-Semitic hatred at every opportunity and are not interested in fairness and truth.

I think it is time that the world should know about Israel ‘s disproportionate response.    Please forward this to as many people as you can.

THIS WEEKS NEWS REPORTS

1. Israelis Continue Saving Lives in Haiti    Israel Today News   Jan 21st
Israeli rescue teams in Haiti assisted in the rescue and treatment of another two survivors discovered among the rubble of the devastated capital of Port-au-Prince on Tuesday.
Together with rescue teams from Russia, Nicaragua and Venezuela, the Israelis helped pull two live female victims from a collapsed building.   One of the women was rushed to the Israeli field hospital where she received life-saving treatment.   The Israeli field hospital and the overall Israeli effort in Haiti continues to garner praise and accolades from world leaders and the international press. Hundreds have been treated at the Israeli hospital, 90 lives have been saved following severe injuries, and five babies have been delivered.   The Israeli facility is the only one on the scene equipped to handle the complex surgical procedures so many of the victims require. As a result, aid workers from many other countries are volunteering at the Israeli field hospital. Currently, 10 surgical teams from Britain, eight Columbian doctors and nine volunteers from California are working together with the Israelis at the facility.

2.  Obama Letter to Stress Need to Carve Up Israel for New PA State      Worldnet Daily   Jan 17th
President Obama is planning to issue a letter in the next few weeks guaranteeing U.S. support for a plan to give much of the West Bank and eastern sections of Jerusalem to Palestinians within two years, WND has learned.  The presidential letter is slated to stress U.S. commitments to Israeli security as well.  It would state the final borders of a Palestinian country will be determined by direct Israeli-Palestinian negotiations but that the U.S. supports a Palestinian state in the general 1967 borders – meaning the West Bank, Gaza Strip and eastern Jerusalem.  According to a source in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, the Israeli leader is pushing against a formal letter from Obama, recommending the U.S. president issue an official oral declaration instead.   The contents of the letter are being discussed by Israelis with both Egypt and the U.S. and separately by the Palestinian Authority with Egypt and the U.S. Egypt is a key broker in the matter.   WND has learned that on Monday Israeli National Security Adviser Uzi Arad was in Egypt on a secret visit to discuss Israeli-Palestinian talks as well as the content of Obama’s future declaration.  Arad’s visit until now has not been reported by the news media.

3.  Israel Hit by Major Winter Storm   Israel Today News   Jan 18th
The cold weather and heavy rains that have been pounding Europe finally made their way over to Israel on Monday, flooding much of the country.  The heavy rains brought traffic to a standstill in many areas, and destroyed at least one major bridge in the northern Negev region.  The rains were particularly troublesome for residents of the Negev, where roads are not made to handle such downpours. Monday’s showers brought triple the amount of the Negev’s usual annual rainfall.   The rains were expected to let up on Tuesday, but resume on Wednesday. Heavy snowfall is forecast for Mt. Hermon in northern Israel.  While the volume of the downpour is an inconvenience, Israeli officials hoped to capture much of the precipitation and use it to alleviate Israel’s growing water crisis.

4. Obama Acknowledges Failed Mideast Policy   Israel Today News   Jan 22
US President Barack Obama said in an interview with Time magazine published on Thursday that he had erred in raising expectations of a quick and smooth peace process between Israel and the Palestinians under his auspices.   Obama said during his first year in office, he had learned what former presidents also had to discover the hard way – that there are deep-seated, ancient and religious differences at play in the Middle East conflict that make it difficult for either side to move forward.   Obama said he knew that it wouldn’t be easy going in, but overestimated his ability to persuade the Israelis and the Arabs to brush aside their disagreements and reach a final status peace agreement.   Obama almost seemed to excuse Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas’ intransigence by saying he had “Hamas looking over his shoulder and, I think, an environment generally within the Arab world that feels impatient with any process.”   Israel, on the other hand, was the recipient of muted criticism when the president said that only after “a lot of time” did Jerusalem finally offer and implement gestures to get talks back on track, and even then they were not the “bold gestures” Washington and the Arabs had demanded.
In November, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu implemented a 10-month freeze on Jewish construction in Judea and Samaria to entice the Palestinians back to the negotiating table. At the time, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton praised what she called an “unprecedented” move, and nearly scolded Abbas for remaining defiant.  But as the weeks went by and the Palestinians made it clear they would settle for nothing less than total Israeli surrender, the Obama Administration changed its tune and began pressuring Israel to come further in line with Arab demands.  An Israeli official cited by Israel’s Channel 2 News on Thursday said the Netanyahu government had warned Obama that making peace would not be so easy, and that for more than a decade Israeli gestures and concessions had only led to increased Arab demands that Israel couldn’t possibly meet.

5. London University Employs Muslim Extremist   ICEJ News  Jan 19th
Reza Pankhurst, who was imprisoned from 2003 until last year for being a member of Hizb ut-Tahrir – a hard-line Islamist group, is currently employed as an assistant lecturer at the prestigious London School of Economics. He is accused, among other things, of involvement in a 2003 suicide bomb attack on Mike’s Place, a popular restaurant near the US Embassy in Tel Aviv, which was carried out by three British Muslims who entered Israel on tourist visas. Omar Sharif, one of the bombers, was a long time friend of Pankhurst and according to a mutual acquaintance Pankhurst played a key role in his radicalization. One LSE student told The Times of London on Saturday that Pankhurst preaches often in a mosque near the university and calls for “the dismantling” of the “illegal entity” of Israel and other anti-Western political positions.

6. Jordan Claims Iran Behind Attack on Israeli Diplomats   ICEJ  News   Jan 19th
Sources in Jordan intelligence announced on Monday that last week’s attempt to assassinate Israeli diplomats driving in a two-car convoy on the way home from Amman was carried out by local al-Qaida operatives with money and support from the Islamic Revolutionary Guards in Iran, with the explosives used in the attack possibly smuggled into the country by Iranian diplomats. “We can see Iran’s fingerprints on the roadside bombing,” the sources said

7. Not All Settlers and Palestinians Want Each Other to Disappear     HA Arettz News   Jan 22nd
In a Palestinian village somewhere between Hebron and Bethlehem, it was so cold and misty one day last month that you could barely see more than a meter away. It was as if the fog served as camouflage, a hiding place behind which a few dozen settlers and Palestinians were concealed. They had crowded together in the hall of a local school, ostensibly to talk about joint prayers for rain – which came even without the prayers – but in essence to talk about themselves. This time, for a change, within earshot of the other side.  It would be an exaggeration to say that brotherhood reigned in the school auditorium. Both sides spoke Hebrew, since most of the Palestinians work in settlements: one at the local council, another as a cleaner, a third as a veteran employee at a nearby yeshiva. When the son of the village elder complained that for 42 years they haven’t been allowed to build even a wall, one of the settlers replied: “We’re not being allowed to build, either.”
“They’re building everywhere in Kfar Etzion, in Elazar, in Alon Shvut,” Muhammad, the mukhtar’s son, responded politely, albeit without trying to curry favor. “Why not me? We see your children. My child asks: ‘Why do the Jewish children have this and that, and I don’t?'”   Similarly, the word “fear” held a double meaning at this session. “I don’t want to be afraid any more,” said Efrat resident Yael Goldstein at one stage of the conversation. Her two children took part in the meeting and introduced themselves in Arabic, which they are studying so that they can get to know the neighbors. “I want to pick up an Arab hitchhiker; I see them shivering from the cold in the rain, or in the summer, and I want to take them, but I’m afraid. What can be done so that I won’t be afraid?”
“Why does a person have fear?” Muhammad answers. “You are afraid if you’ve done something wrong. If I haven’t done anything bad, why should I be afraid?” Muhammad did not go into specifics.

Top-o-the-Decade to you!

January 1, 2010

Ten Years was not a very long time…and then twenty-ten (the pre-teen years of adolesence) is upon us…
2009 is now all over and we are in the first few hours of 2010. In spite of millions of people’s expectations that Barack Obama would perform major messianic miracles, 2009 brought us the worst financial situation for more than 50 years. In the midst of the deepening recession, as financial institutions were falling like dominoes,  Bernie Madeoff made off with billions of investors hard earned savings. Al Gore and co tried to freak us out with the worry of being flooded out of this life by rising sea levels, caused by the fictitious Global Warming.  Then there was the threat of millions of deaths from the dreaded Swine Flu (funny – have not heard a single word about it for weeks now )  2009 could have closed with a major catastrophe on Christmas Day, had the Al Qaeda inspired attempt to blow up the Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit.  Whether it was Divine intervention, Islamic incompetence, or just plain good luck, the bomb was a fizzer and the aircraft and passengers were saved from certain destruction, while the would be terrorist only managed to burn himself.

With all of that now behind us, what can we expect in 2010 ?  Even more of the same would be good news, because I expect things to get worse.  I believe that one of the reasons for the rapid deteriorating state of the world is Genesis 12:3.  The God of Israel told His servant Abraham that He would bless those who blessed him & his descendants, and that those who take Israel and the Jewish people lightly would experience the wrath of Israel’s God.  Most nations in the world today are taking lightly the God-given right to occupy all of the territory that God promised to Abraham.  The secular media has turned The Jewish people from being the victims of Islamic and Church inspired anti-Semitism, into blood thirsty monsters who oppress and murder the so called Palestinian people, even stooping as low as accusing the Israel army harvesting their organs.

The Holy One of Israel tells us in His Word that Israel is the lens of His eye. Zech 2:8 8  For thus says the LORD of hosts: “He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.  (NKJ)   That tells me that everything God sees as He looks down from Heaven at every activity taking place on Planet Earth, He sees through the lens of Israel.  And I dont think the All Powerful One is too happy with the way that most of the world ( and much of the Church )  treats His nation and his people.  Of course there are other reasons why the Creator of the Universe is bringing the nations under His judgement.  Abortion, homosexuality and other sexual immorality, idolatry and the love of money just to name but a few.

To quote form this weeks  The Omega Letter Intelligence Digest Vol: 22 Issue: 28 – Monday, December 28, 2009   ………..

We’re just days from saying goodbye to the first decade of the 21st century.  If one wanted to summarize the first ten years of the 21st century, it would be the Decade of Fear.  The decade opened with the threat posed by  the Y2K Bug  to bring about the instantaneous destruction of Western civilization.  Ahmed Ressam intended to ring in the New Year with a bomb attack against Los Angeles International Airport — the so-called Millennium Plot

One of the jokes making the rounds during the first decade of the 21st century went like this:  “You know the end is near when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy,  France accuses America of arrogance and Germany doesn’t want to go to war.”

Add to that the election of a woefully inexperienced Chicago politician on the basis of his race, his coronation as the nation’s messiah and the introduction of national socialism and you begin to wonder if we’ll last until Saturday so we can say goodbye to the Decade of Woe.

So are we ready for what ever 2010 holds for our nations, and our families ?  How do we best make ourselves ready ?

1/   We need to be physically prepared  –  a good degree of physical fitness in case we need to walk a long distance to save our lives or the lives of others.
    – prepare a stock of drinking water and long-lasting foods  –  a comprehensive medical kit –  copies of important documents and back ups of important
date in our computers  –  an escape and rendezvous plan with family & close friends and your home group (we may not be able to get to church)

2/   We need to be emotionally prepared  – mentally ready to deal with a dramatic change in our lifestyles and comfort levels  –  once the money system crashes and they bring in the New World Order cashless system we wont be able to buy or sell unless we take the mark  –  that means we cant pay our rent or utility accounts, buy food and water,  gas up our cars  ……. nothing !   Are we emotionally ready to deal with that ?

3/   Most importantly we need to be spiritually prepared.   We need to be firmly standing on The Rock.  We need to know the Word and be led by the Holy Spirit.  We need to be like Peter when the Lord called him out of the boat, he was able to walk on the water – until he focused on the waves and the wind instead of focusing on the Lord.  We need to fix our eyes on Yeshua and do only what He tells us to do, and to trust the voice of the Lord only.

And always remember  1/  Great is He who is in us than he who is in the world
2/  If God is for us who can be against us
3/  No weapon formed against us will prosper
4/  When these things begin to happen, look up for our redemption is getting close

Josie and I, Stefan & Keren and Jordan pray that inspite of what comes in 2010, you and your family will be blessed, anointed, protected and prospered  –  in the name of Yeshua  ………..  Amen & Amen

THIS WEEKS NEWS REPORTS

1.  US to Jumpstart Peace Talks, but Israeli FM Says it’s Impossible   Israel Today News  Dec 28th
The Obama Administration is preparing a major relaunch of peace efforts between Israel and the Palestinians, but Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said they are doomed to fail.   A senior Arab diplomat told the AFP in Cairo on Monday that “US special envoy George Mitchell will present two draft letters of guarantee, one for Israel and one to the Palestinian Authority during his next visit to the region.”   He said Washington hopes the two letters will serve as the basis for renewed peace talks, though the diplomat himself doubted it would work since the letter to the Palestinians does not include the demanded full cessation of Jewish construction in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria.  A day earlier, Lieberman said it is increasingly clear that a real peace agreement cannot be concluded in the next 10 to 20 years.  “We think that if we make more concessions everything will work out,” the Jerusalem Post quoted Lieberman as telling a gathering of Israel’s 140 ambassadors in Jerusalem. “Even if we return the last grain of sand, and divide Jerusalem, and agree to all the demands, nothing will change and we will be in the same situation.”
Lieberman said that Israel had already gone above and beyond in its concessions and gestures for the sake of peace, including allowing the PLO terrorist organization to move into the region and set up as a sovereign power and uprooting 10,000 Jews from the Gaza Strip.  On top of that, former prime ministers Ehud Barak and Ehud Olmert had been willing to meet as much as 98 percent of remaining Palestinian demands, only to be slapped in the face by their “peace partners.”   “It doesn’t matter what we offer, they will always find an excuse to say ‘no,'” noted Lieberman.  Pointing out that the Palestinians cannot even remain united themselves, as evidenced by the Hamas-Fatah conflict, Lieberman lamented that there is little hope the current generation will see peace.
Please pray that the Lord’s peace plan will be established

2. Washington Squawks Over New Homes for Jews in Jerusalem   Israel Today News   Dec 28th
The Obama Administration on Monday criticized Israel for approving plans to build 700 new apartments in three Jewish neighborhoods on the eastern side of Jerusalem, which the Palestinians claim as their future capital.  The apartments will be built in neighborhoods that are home to tens of thousands of Jews already, and which almost no Israeli agrees should be surrendered and emptied of Jews as part of any peace deal with the Arabs.  But with Washington increasingly taking the Palestinian view of issues on the ground, an administration official speaking on condition of anonymity was not shy in referring to the new construction as settlement activity.   “…we consider all the Israeli settlements to be beyond the pale of what we wish to see going on, and are not helpful, again, to getting the two sides back to the table,” the official said in remarks to the Associated Press.
Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev reminded the Americans that Israel does not “make a distinction between the West Bank and Jerusalem. Jerusalem is our capital and remains such.”    Other officials also noted that eastern Jerusalem was not included in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s partial 10-month settlement freeze designed to get the Palestinians back to the negotiating table.   Unreported by most media outlets was the fact that the Jerusalem municipality also approved the construction of 500 new Arab housing units on the same day.
Please pray that the Israeli government will ignore the demands of the US administation and cancel the settlement freeze

3.  Israel Eliminates Rabbi’s Palestinian Killer   Israel Today News  Dec 28th
The Israeli army on Saturday shot and killed the Palestinian terrorist responsible for a roadside shooting two days earlier that left an Israeli rabbi and father of seven dead.  Israeli troops surrounded the home of the terrorist in the Samarian city of Nablus and demanded that he surrender himself. When the terrorist refused, the troops opened fire, killing him and two accomplices.  Israeli settlers, who have been at odds of late with the security establishment over enforcement of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s temporary settlement freeze, praised the swift retaliation following an attack on one of their own.
However, settler leaders noted that had the government and army not succumbed to American pressure to remove so many roadblocks in the area, Thursday’s fatal shooting that left Rabbi Avshalom Chai dead probably wouldn’t have happened.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority condemned Israel for eliminating Rabbi Chai’s killer, and accused the Jewish state of reinstating an “assassination policy.” PA Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudaineh said that rather than Palestinian terrorist attacks on Jews, it was Israel’s retaliatory operations that were dragging the region into violence instead of peace.   However, many Palestinians who spoke to local media outlets insisted that the Israeli raid on the terrorist’s Nablus hideout was facilitated by PA security forces. They noted that prior to the operation, all PA security personnel left the area.
Hamas jumped at the opportunity to further defame the PA by accusing it of “collaboration” with the Zionist enemy. Of course, the various agreements between Israel and the Palestinians obligate the latter to collaborate at every level with Israel to end the scourge of Islamic terror in the region.   Israeli security officials praised what they called “determined and impressive” action by PA security forces in the wake of Rabbi Chai’s murder, including the arrest of some 120 suspects. That praise further strengthened claims that the Palestinian Authority was cooperating with Israel at some level.  Many Israelis are waiting for the day that the Palestinians are no longer speaking out of both sides of their mouths by cooperating with Israel behinds the scenes (if indeed that is what happened) and then condemning the Jewish state in public.

4. Hamas: We Foiled Israeli Attempt to Locate Gilad Shalit     Ha Aretz News  Dec 31st
The internal security apparatus of Hamas claims to have foiled an Israeli attempt to collect intelligence on where kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit is being kept. According to the head of Hamas’ internal security service, Abu Abdullah, the Shin Bet security service has tried gathering intelligence through members of the rival Fatah organization who have operated in the Gaza Strip in the past.   The report appears to be mostly an attempt to smear the Palestinian Authority and its activities. Abu Abdullah said in an interview to a Web site affiliated with Hamas, Falastin Alan, that the Fatah operatives hired a house and cars in the eastern part of Gaza City and planned to kidnap a senior figure in the military wing of Hamas and bring him to Israel. He did not specify when the operation was to take place.
Meanwhile, the Hamas Web site reported that the negotiations for the release of Gilad Shalit have met with Israel’s refusal to release four “senior” prisoners. The four are: Tanzim leader Marwan Barghouti, secretary general of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Ahmed Sa’adat, and two of the heads of Hamas’ military wing in the West Bank, Ibrahim Hamad and Abdullah Barghouti, who are responsible for the murders of dozens of Israelis in suicide bombings.   On the other hand, a member of the Hamas politburo, Izzat al-Rishq, stressed in an interview to the Arabic language TV station Al-Jazeera that the Islamist Palestinian group is continuing consultations on the proposal relayed to it by the German mediator.  Rishq rejected the report Tuesday by TV station Al-Arabiya that Hamas had turned down the proposal.  The Hamas official refused to offer details on the substance of the proposal from Israel or comment on problems that Hamas may have with it.
Please pray that Gilad will escape or be rescued unharmed

5. Israeli Government Braces For More Petitions to Open Roads   ICEJ News   Dec 31st
A day after the High Court of Justice ordered the IDF to open Highway 443 to Palestianian traffic defense officials said Wednesday that the Defense Ministry is preparing legal arguments against an expected spate of court petitions to open other roads currently only open to Israeli cars because of security concerns.  On Tuesday, the High Court of Justice ordered the IDF to open Route 443 – which links Jerusalem to Ben-Gurion Airport and Tel Aviv – to Palestinian traffic. The road was closed to such traffic in 2002 following a spate of terror attacks along the road that killed six people. Until then, the road had served as many as 55,000 Palestinians living in several villages along the length of the highway, including Beit Sira, Safa, Beit Ur a-Tahta and Khirbet el-Misbah.  Modi’in Mayor Haim Bibas, in an interview with Israel Radio Wednesday morning, said the High Court of Justice decision to open the 443 highway to Palestinian traffic is “detached from reality.”   Bibas stressed that the road was closed after various terror attacks, is now safe and constitutes a central artery for traffic.
According to the B’Tselem advocacy organization, there are still 59 kilometers of roads in the West Bank that are off limits to Palestinian traffic. Most notably are the roads that link the Palestinian village of Hawara with the settlement of Elon Moreh, the road that connects the Palestinian town of Salfit with Road 5 and the Kedar road near Ma’aleh Adumim.   Officials said that the Defense Ministry’s legal department was preparing defenses for expected petitions by human rights and advocacy organizations against the closure of these roads to Palestinian Authority traffic. “The court ruling on 443 sets a precedent based on which groups will likely try to get other roads opened,” one official said.
The court gave the IDF five months to make preparations to open a 14-kilometer section of Road 443 that is between two checkpoints – one called Maccabim near Modi’in, and the other on the opposite side near Jerusalem. To ensure the safety of Israeli drivers, the IDF will likely increase its presence on the highway and erect additional watchtowers to deter and spot potential attackers. “This is a matter of strategic importance since this is one of only two highways that connects Jerusalem with the center of the country,” one IDF source said Wednesday. “We need to make sure that it is safe and open at all times.”   In addition to potential shooting attacks on the road, the IDF is also concerned with the possibility that Palestinian terrorists will plant improvised explosive devices near the highway. Two weeks ago, security forces discovered the remains of an IED – made of a gas balloon and firecrackers – that had gone off along the road.
Please pray that this dangerous decision will be reversed

6. In Absence of Peace, Israel Has Chosen ‘Peace-Lite’     Ha  Aretz News    Jan 1st
The previous decade began with Israeli hopes of peace, but was characterized by wars and disappointment. On January 1, 2000, the country was on the brink of signing an agreement with Syria, and was a few months away from reaching a permanent settlement with the Palestinians. Or at least that is how it appeared back then, with numerous peace conferences, rounds of negotiations and diplomatic summits taking place.  At the end of summer that year, however, everything changed. The peace process collapsed in both channels, the Syrian and the Palestinian, and in its stead the second intifada broke out, lasting more than four years and leading to the deaths of thousands of Israelis and Palestinians. The delicate infrastructure of the Oslo Accords, which relied on cooperation between Israel and Yasser Arafat’s state-in-the-making, fell apart, never to return. Prospective agreements that surfaced during the course of the decade all came to naught.  In place of the false anticipation for “an end to the conflict,” Israel developed a new model that can be termed “peace substitute” or “peace-lite.” Instead of political agreements setting out terms for security arrangements and normalization, the new approach relied on setting boundaries that would grant Israel international legitimacy for acts of self-defense. Instead of control on the ground, Israel would deter its enemies from afar, through its air force. It was deterrence in place of peace.
Israel subsequently withdrew from South Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, and discovered that the other side also prefers deterrence to peace. Hezbollah’s rocket stockpile up north and Hamas’ presence in the south were meant to counterbalance the Israel Defense Forces’ firepower. Twice Israel went to war, in Lebanon in 2006 and in Gaza in 2008, and in both cases, the mutual deterrence formula – “destruction versus destruction” – was eventually restored.   A similar process took place with the Syrian channel, but more cautiously, and without the terrible price the other wars exacted in casualties, physical destruction and economic devastation. Syria strove to bolster its deterrence against Israel by secretly building a nuclear reactor and arming Hezbollah. Israel attacked the nuclear facility in Syria in 2007, and, according to foreign sources, it also engaged in widespread clandestine activity on the Syrian side, culminating in the assassination of senior figures. Again, the motive was maintaining deterrence. The Syrians did not respond to the bombing of their reactor, or to the assassinations on their territory, and thus all-out war was avoided.

7. Iran Soccer Body Sends Israeli Team New Year`s Greeting    Jerusalem Post Dec 31
The Iranian football federation sent its Israeli counterpart a new year’s greeting on Thursday, Army Radio reported, in what a Tehran official described as a mistake.  Mohammad Ali Ardebili, director of foreign relations for the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, told Army Radio that he had not intended to send the missive to the Israel Football Association.  “It is a greeting sent to every country in the world,” Ardebili said. He quickly then inquired: “Are you talking from Israel? I can’t speak with you. It’s a mistake, it’s a mistake.”   The greeting was received in Israel by the head of the Israel Football Association’s legal department, Amir Navon.    “He came into my office asking me if I thought it was a mistake,” said body spokesman Gil Levanoni/ “So I told him that I didn’t know, but that we should send in a reply.”   Levanoni and Navon said they replied to the greeting with a “happy new year to all the good people of Iran,” and said: “We also added a wink.”
