Zion’s Glory Update March 31, 2014 The following is a Zion’s Glory prayer update from Eddie and Jackie Santoro in Israel. In Revelation 19, we see the rider on a white horse and his armies of heaven who are coming down to make war against the kings of the earth who have gathered against him. The writers of these two books, although they lived over 600 years apart were seeing the same event; the uniting of the nations of the world against Israel in the last days. In Joel 3, the prophet declares that God “will enter into judgment against the nations concerning my inheritance, my people Israel.” And what had the nations done to bring God’s final judgement against them? According to the prophet, their crime was that “they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land.” Amazingly, we are living in a day when that which was prophesied long ago is being fulfilled. From the rebirth of Israel 67 years ago to the increasing hostility of the nations against it, the history of the earth is unfolding according to God’s Word.  The past weeks have seen an escalation of the attacks against Israel, both in the international diplomatic arena and also on the borders of this nation. Unprovoked Attacks Over the past months there has been a significant degeneration of Israel’s security situation. The usually quiet border with Syria has erupted into violent and deadly escalations as Islamic Jihadist fighters who are warring against President Assad’s government have taken advantage of their newly won proximity to Israel to launch unprovoked attacks against this nation. To our south, the Sinai, which not too long ago was a popular vacation destination for thousands of Israelis has become a launching pad for unprovoked radical Islamic attacks against Israel. Hezbollah in Lebanon has recently carried out unprovoked attacks against Israeli soldiers on the Lebanese border. Their leader, Nasrallah is threatening that this is just a prelude to the coming war that will annihilate the nation of Israel. Hamas, our arch enemy that controls the Gaza Strip is continuing with its unprovoked missile attacks into southern Israel. The common word in all of these situations is unprovoked. Israel has done nothing to bring the wrath of their enemies against them. From an Islamic mind set, Israel’s very existence is the core issue. Finally, it is not Israel’s foreign policy or supposed aggression that makes this nation the hateful target of the entire Islamic world. It is that the nation simply exists. The United Nations Human Rights Council The United Nations Human Rights Council led the diplomatic charge against Israel this past week. In their most recent session, the UNHRC passed five resolutions condemning Israel for its “occupation” of “Palestinian” lands and its treatment of Palestinians who live over the pre -1967 border. In a particularly  irrational vote, the council felt that it was important to raise concern over Israel’s treatment of Syrian residents who live on the Golan Heights, while ignoring the fate of the Syrian people who live in Syria and of whom 150,000 have been killed since the civil war erupted there several years ago. The council also felt it necessary to single out Israel by passing a resolution which mandates that every time the UNHRC meets, they MUST participate in a public discussion of Israel’s treatment of the Palestinian people. The passage of the resolutions condemning Israel was even more sobering when one considers that they were passed by a 46 – 1 majority and that Italy, France and Germany, the representative nations of the EU also voted in favor of the resolutions. Only the United States voted against, saying they were one sided and stating that the UNHRC was ignoring many of the world’s worst human rights violations. Growing International Isolation of Israel It is impossible to separate these resolutions and the growing international BDI (Boycott and Disinvestment from Israel) from God’s Word which states that in the Last Days all the nations of the earth will turn against Israel. The conflict between the Palestinians and Israel is the only item on the world’s agenda that everyone seems to agree on. Resolutions against Iran and North Korea whose populations suffer far greater human rights violations were also passed but none of them received the same overwhelming support that was given to the anti-Israel resolutions. The Peace Process This one sided approach to the Israeli Palestinian conflict  empowers the Palestinians to remain intransigent in their negotiating stand. The Palestinian position that refuses to recognize Israel as a Jewish State, demands sovereign control over all of East Jerusalem, ignores Israel’s very real security concerns and demands the “right of return” for millions of Palestinians and their descendants is a non starter for Israel. Recently Palestinian Authority Religious Affairs Minister Mahmoud al-Habbash stated their official position that Israel has no historical claim to the land it now occupies, that Solomon’s temple never existed and that the entire Biblical narrative concerning Israel and the Jewish people is nothing more than a myth. I have been in East Jerusalem many times and have seen maps of their hoped for “Palestine”. On those maps, not just East Jerusalem but Tel Aviv, Haifa and all of the land of Israel have been swallowed up in their vision of the final resolution of this conflict. The truth is not hidden and although the world has chosen to ignore it, Israel can not indulge in such a luxury. History has taught us that when our enemies speak of our destruction, they mean it. As the Word says, these last days will be the most difficult the world has every known and the center of those “birth pains” that will herald the return of Yeshua and the establishment of his Kingdom will be in Israel. Beyond a doubt the world’s people will be divided into those who love the truth and those who are serving a lie. We praise God that in these days of escalating trials that we are connected with a people like you who love the truth. May each of us stand against the wave of darkness and deception that is sweeping the earth and may we be numbered among those who stood with Israel as a deceived world turned against her. Barack Obama just gave away control of the Internet to international factions that are potentially hostile to America.

This simple action opens up the World Wide Web to censorship and abuse at the hands of foreign entities like the U.N. or even Russia or China. And it fulfills Vladimir Putin’s goal of “international control of the Internet.”

Worst of all, this latest Obama effort to weaken America on the international stage was completely unnecessary!

On March 14, the Obama administration announced that, beginning in 2015, the U.S. government will no longer oversee the key basic functionality of the worldwide Internet — the management and assignment of domain names through the Internet Corporation For Assigned Names And Numbers (ICANN).

Newsweek says this action “shed[s] the last remnants of Internet control by America.” A Wall Street Journal OpEd calls it “America’s Internet Surrender” that opens the Internet up to “censorship” from regimes such as China and Russia.

Mathew Staver, Chairman Liberty Counsel Action  Barack Obama has no problem showing disdain and disrespect for truth, accountability, and the interests of the American people.  This galling fact was perfectly illustrated yesterday by the performance of his new IRS Director, John Koskinen, before Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) and the House Oversight Committee.   Earlier, the appointment of Barbara Bosserman to head up the Department of Justice’s investigation into IRS targeting was a similar example of the administration’s arrogant disrespect for the people’s interests. Bob, Following the disclosure last May that IRS officials intentionally targeted Tea Party and conservative organizations, including our own sister organization, Freedom Federation, President Obama declared…  “If in fact IRS personnel engaged in the kind of practices that have been reported on and were intentionally targeting conservative groups, then that’s outrageous and there’s no place for it… people have to be held accountable and it’s got to be fixed.”  President Obama used his best “I’m shocked by this” face while promising a vigorous, non-partisan investigation.  He was lying.  ++Barbara Kay Bosserman was appointed to get the job done.  Ms. Bosserman, a trial lawyer with Eric Holder’s Department of Justice, was selected by the DOJ to lead the criminal probe into the IRS targeting scandal. Yet, she is a fervent political supporter of President Obama and the national Democratic Party, having contributed significant amounts to both political funds.   Bosserman’s appointment has been rightly challenged by a number of congressional leaders to no avail, including a recent request by Senator Ted Cruz for Attorney General Holder to appoint a non-partisan “special prosecutor.”  Last week, Holder flatly denied Cruz’s request, saying, “…such an appointment is not warranted” because the case does not, in his opinion, present a conflict of interest.   Holder’s decision that there is “no conflict of interest” fits in perfectly with the Obama/Holder strategy of making sure the IRS targeting scandal is swept under the rug.  By selecting a significant donor to President Obama to lead an investigation into inappropriate targeting of conservative groups, the DOJ has in fact created a startling conflict of interest!   ++New IRS chief is a seasoned, “progressive” operative!  The appointment of John Koskinen to head the IRS was railroaded through Harry Reid’s “nuclear” Senate.  Koskinen is a savvy operative who many observers believe was nominated simply because he is so experienced at protecting President Obama’s political interests. After overseeing the federal takeover of the entire American mortgage industry at Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac, Koskinen is the kind of thick-skinned, cynical executive who can continue the political corruption of the IRS even under the spotlight of increasing scrutiny.    Yesterday, before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, John Koskinen told Chairman Darrell Issa and the committee members that it will take “years to produce” the documents they are requesting, to which Chairman Issa replied…  “Does a nonpartisan or nonpolitical agency withhold documents requested during a congressional investigation? You’ve been more concerned with managing the political fallout.” Managing political fallout is what John Koskinen does. That’s why Barack Obama rammed him through Reid’s compliant Senate to get the job at the IRS! Among his first acts as IRS chief was to take oversight of proposed regulations that will all but silence tens of millions of conservatives through overreaching rules imposed on 501(c)(4) organizations – like Liberty Counsel Action.   ++The Senate must take action to force the IRS to stop targeting conservatives!  The House of Representatives passed the Stop Targeting of Political Beliefs by the IRS Act. President Barack Obama and his Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), Kathleen Sebelius, have put people of faith and religious organizations squarely in their crosshairs!

The President set up this inevitable collision when he reneged on a key promise he made to get his healthcare “reform” bill through Congress:  His offer of a “conscience exemption” for people of faith and religiously oriented institutions.

Yesterday, the United States Supreme Court heard oral argument about religious business owners and corporations being forced to adhere to highly objectionable mandates.  The promised “conscience exemption” never made it into the law. Barack Obama lied to get what he wanted.

Ignoring free exercise rights, the Obama administration is using ObamaCare to compel employers to choose between adhering to their sincerely held religious beliefs or paying enormous fines.

Employers such as Hobby Lobby, Conestoga Wood Products, Little Sisters of the Poor, and Liberty University – all of which operate their businesses, ministries, or institutions in accordance with religious principles that respect the sanctity and dignity of human life – are being told by the government that they must either abandon their principles and provide free abortion-inducing drugs and devices to their employees or pay exorbitant fines.

That wasn’t supposed to happen, but it turns out that the President lied and the administration provided no exemption.  Rather, ObamaCare represents a frontal attack on religious freedom.

Not only does ObamaCare violate the rights of religious employers because of its abortion mandate, it violates the rights of individuals who oppose abortion and the rights of all employers, religious or not.

Ukraine, Flight 370, and the Electrical Grid

The month of March has not been a comforting one for those of us who are concerned about America’s security. The news in Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, and right here in the United States is of a world full of threats for which the Obama Administration is unprepared.

In Europe, Vladimir Putin has invaded a sovereign country and annexed part of its territory with little more than verbal protest from the United States and Europe in response. Ukrainian officials reportedly are begging the U.S. for military aid, probably the minimum step Putin would take seriously. We could arm Ukraine without putting a single American soldier at risk, but after nearly three weeks of Russian aggression there, the U.S. has yet to grant the aid request.

Instead, we’ve responded with meaningless gestures–slapping sanctions on the U.S. assets of just seven individual Russian officials. This for invading a European country. As the New Yorker joked, if Putin isn’t careful, we might even freeze his Netflix account next. Barring Russian officials from visiting Disney World is pretty pathetic.

Our failure to respond to Putin’s aggression in Ukraine could have consequences far beyond Crimea’s borders. After America’s weakness there in the last few weeks, we’ll just have to hope Putin doesn’t set his sights on a country like Latvia, Lithuania, or Estonia–NATO members that we have an absolute binding obligation to protect with military force. But which of our actions in Ukraine are supposed to convince Russia that the United States is serious and that messing with other Eastern European nations would be a bad idea?

That possibility is just one reason Americans should be alarmed that neither the President nor the Democratic led Senate has mustered a serious response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In fact, after Speaker Boehner and the Republican led House passed aid to Ukraine with a massive bipartisan majority, Democratic Senate Leader Harry Reid sent his members on vacation rather than approving an aid package to Ukraine last week.

Bob Schieffer on CBS imagined how the post-Senate adjournment conversation might have gone between Secretary of State John Kerry and his Russian counterpart:

“Ohhhh,” said the Russian. “So the Senate is not as worried about this so-called crisis as you are.”

“Absolutely not so!” said Kerry. “Harry Reid, the Senate leader, has assured everyone the aid package is the very first thing the Senate will deal with when they get back from vacation in a week or so.”

“Excuse my limited knowledge of how your government works,” Lavrov said. “But vacation from what?”

Schieffer was being facetious, but his point is serious. For years now, the American government has failed to respond appropriately on critical matters of national security.

The current crisis in Ukraine is certainly one such case. Another was on the front page of the Wall Street Journal last week: a report by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission which concluded that “the U.S. could suffer a coast-to-coast blackout if saboteurs knocked out just nine of the country’s 55,000 electric transmission substations on a scorching summer day.” The challenge of replacing giant transformers means the resulting power outage could last months–a situation that might bring the country close to societal collapse as well as economic disaster.

Alarmingly, someone–we still have no idea who–has already practiced destroying one of these substations in a professional, astonishing attack on a California power station last year. As the Journal reported and I have discussed in a recent newsletter, a team of snipers destroyed 17 transformers in less than 20 minutes in the middle of the night last April. The crime remains unsolved.

Congress has known about the vulnerability of our nation’s electric grid for years but has done nothing. It has failed to pass commonsense measures like Rep. Trent Franks’s SHIELD Act, which would strengthen the grid against an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) that would, like the destruction of electrical power stations, plunge North America into darkness for months.

An EMP could come from something as simple as a strong solar storm or as complex as a small nuclear device detonated at high altitude.

Anyone who finds the later scenario unimaginable hasn’t been watching the coverage of Malaysian Airlines flight 370. The use of a commercial aircraft for violent purposes, as investigators are considering in the MH370 case, is one of the possibilities those of us who warn of EMPs worry about.

My friend Bill Forstchen has written an amazing novel, One Second After, imagining the aftermath of such an attack. It is frightening enough that it’s clear we should do everything in our power to guard against EMP events. But much like going on vacation in the middle of a major crisis in Europe, Congress can’t seem to take simple steps like those in the SHIELD Act to harden our critical infrastructure.

The events of the last few weeks remind us how dangerous and unpredictable the world can be. Americans deserve leaders who take our national security at least as seriously as their own reelection efforts.

Ireland’s Patrick: Saint, Yes! Catholic No!

I recently read an article in Wikipedia about the Hebraic Roots movement, and found it mostly accurate. In it, the author pointed out that we, in this walk “seek out the history, culture, and faith of first century believers. To this I have to add, we shouldn’t stop at the first century. In contending for the faith once delivered to the Saints (Jude 1:3), it is imperative that believers learn and disseminate historical truth. So much has been perverted.

The Roman Catholic Church changed more than doctrine. They rewrote history. In the case of St. Patrick, the historical lies were written by Probus and Joscelyn in A.D. 1130. More than 500 years after Patrick’s death! Seeking to garner Patrick’s fame for the glory of the Roman Catholic Church, they fabricated history. Papal biographers have ever since spun their web of lies about Patrick from this fanciful work.

The Pope never ordained Patrick in Rome, and Patrick was never a Catholic. He was a Messianic Jew!

The source for this amazing fact is the medieval Book of Leinster, a compilation of Ireland’s oldest documents, stored under lock and key in Trinity College, Dublin. According to the research of Dr. Robert Heidler, Patrick was a “son of Israel.” His ancestors were among the Jewish believers in Messiah Yeshua who fled Jerusalem in 70 A.D when Rome sacked the Holy City.

Patrick was born in a providence of Britain in 360 A.D. It was in the Scottish, not Irish, town of Bonnaven, between Dumbarton and Glasgow. His father was a deacon in the Celtic, not Catholic, church! According to the research of Dr. Heidler, senior teacher at Glory of Zion International Ministries, and other sources, the Celtic church was the last surviving outpost of the first century apostolic church. And it operated in miracles.

Signs and wonders had powered the early church, spurring its growth until the 4th century, when compromise with Paganism under Constantine pulled the plug. No more power. God’s Glory departed . . . except in remote outposts. One was 4th century Ireland, in the Celtic church.

Unlike the Roman Catholic Church, the Celtic church did not believe in purgatory, did not pray to Mary, and did not honor the Pope. Clergy married and reared children. Believers, not infants, were baptized by immersion. And . . . are you ready? They celebrated Passover, not Rome’s Easter, and kept God’s 7th day Sabbath. They also shunned unclean meats and decried the Roman Church’s hierarchy.

But young Patrick did not develop a personal relationship with Yeshua until after he’d been captured by raiders at age sixteen. He turned to God while enslaved in Ireland.

Crying out to the Lord, from hilltops where he shepherded sheep, he learned to trust God. Then one day, six years hence, God said it was time to go home. So Patrick escaped and boarded a ship that was setting sail for Scotland. There, he spent the bulk of his time in prayer and Scripture study. Then, the Lord told him, “Return to Ireland. Lead them to the Messiah!”

Patrick spent the next 30 years preaching the gospel of the Kingdom. History records that God used Patrick to heal the sick and raise the dead. According to one account, Patrick raised to life the son and daughter of King Alphimus, after which this Pagan King, his nobles, and the entire town accepted the Lord and were baptized.

Another amazing, although little known, saint that the Catholic Church also falsely claims is a man named Columba. Born in 521 in Donegal, Ireland, where he planted over 300 churches, he rejected his noble birth, accepting instead the life of an apostle. He and 12 of his followers departed Ireland for Scotland, where on the rocky little island of Iona, Columba established a Christian community of believers known as the Culdees. This was no Catholic monastery! It was a training center. The Culdees taught it was imperative that each person study God’s word for themselves. These religious men married and reared children.

Iona was a base for evangelism reaching all the Scots and the Picts. These Culdees of St. Columba kept the Sabbath and the Feasts. They bought slaves, set them free, then taught them to read Scripture in Hebrew, Greek, and Gaelic. They trained them as missionaries during a time in history when most kings in Europe were illiterate.

Here is an excerpt from Dr. Robert D. Heidler’s book: The Messianic Church Arising! (pg 67, paragraph 4)

In identifying Iona as a remnant of the Messianic Church, we should not assume they thought of themselves as Jewish. The observance of Passover or the Sabbath did not seem Jewish to them, any more than reading the book of Psalms or taking the Lord ’s Supper seems Jewish to us. For Columba these things were simply part of normative Christianity. These things practiced by the Culdees had been part of biblical Christianity since the times of the apostles. These things only seem foreign to us because they were forcibly removed from the church in the Middle Ages.

In closing, I’ve listed some interesting excerpts from other documents on this subject.

“I, Patrick, …had Calpornius for my father, a deacon, a son of the late Potitus, the presbyter, who dwelt in the village of Banavan….I was captured. I was almost sixteen years of age…and taken to Ireland in captivity with many thousand men.’” (William Cathcart, D. D., The Ancient British and Irish Churches, p.127).

“He (Patrick) never mentions either Rome or the pope or hints that he was in any way connected with the ecclesiastical capital of Italy. He recognizes no other authority but that of the word of God. …When Palladius arrived in the country, it was not to be expected that he would receive

a very hearty welcome from the Irish apostle. If he was sent by [pope] Celestine to the native Christians to be their primate or archbishop, no wonder that stout-hearted Patrick refused to bow his neck to any such yoke of bondage.” (Dr. Killen, Ecclesiastical History of Ireland, vol.1, pp.12-15)

“It seems to have been customary in the Celtic churches of early times, in Ireland as well as Scotland, to keep Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath, as a day of rest from labor. They obeyed the fourth commandment literally upon the seventh day of the week.” (James C. Moffatt, D. D., The Church in Scotland, Philadelphia: 1882, p.140)

“In this latter instance they seemed to have followed a custom of which we find traces in the early monastic church of Ireland by which they held Saturday to be the Sabbath on which they rested from all their labours.” (W.T. Skene, Adamnan Life of St. Columba, 1874, p.96)

Other doctrines that Patrick, Columba, and the Celtic assemblies held included the observation of the other Festivals of the Eternal (Lev.23), the belief in the mortality of man and the hope of the resurrection (vs. immortality of the soul and going to heaven, hell, and/or purgatory); the distinction between clean and unclean animals; “improvised” prayers (from the heart, rather than merely from the lip with repetitions); that Christ Jesus is our only Mediator–as opposed to various “saints,” Mary, angels, etc.; and that redemption and atonement comes through the life, death, and resurrection of Christ alone–separate from works and heeding commandments/ doctrines of men (see The Celtic Church in Britain by Leslie Hardinge, as well as Truth Triumphant by B.G. The threat is real and the red line is now crossed

The Obama administration erroneously believes that the “new” Iran leadership is trustworthy and a sensible future partner for future growth – while placing Israel’s security squarely in the Islamic regime’s crosshairs.

According to the Jerusalem Post report, Iran’s Fars news agency quoted Revolutionary Guard Brigadier General Hossein Salami as saying…

“Today, we can destroy every spot which is under the Zionist regime’s control with any volume of fire power (that we want) right from here. Islam has given us this wish, capacity and power to destroy the Zionist regime so that our hands will remain on the trigger from 1,400km away for the day when such an incident (confrontation with Israel) takes place.”

This threat underscores Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement made last week that the apprehended shipment of arms headed to Gaza was intended to, “rain down on the heads of Israel’s citizens.”

According to a follow-up article in the Jerusalem Post, the seizure of the arms and “the revelation of such a weapons shipment is a bad omen for Israel. It indicates a renewal of ties between Gaza and Tehran.”

Israeli special forces seized an arsenal of weapons buried in the cargo hold of a ship after intelligence sources exposed the shipment allegedly arranged by Iranian leadership to attack Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cited the weapons capture and thwarted attack as evidence of Iran’s true intentions.

I believe that the Obama administration’s brokered deal with Iran is misguided and a danger to our own national security, the security of Israel – and the world at large.

Shut the door on the way out

More and more people across the country are saying, “Enough!”

This past weekend, thousands gathered outside our nation’s capital for the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). CPAC featured a large gathering of conservative leaders.

Texas Governor, Rick Perry, energized the crowd when he said . . .

“My fellow conservatives, the future of this nation is upon you — it belongs to you. It’s time for a little rebellion on the battlefield of ideas… We don’t have to accept recent history — we just need to change the presidency. We must elect the right kind of leaders to represent us to Washington. It is time for Washington to focus on the few things the Constitution establishes as the federal government’s role.”

 

Governor Mike Huckabee mentioned our case involving Justina Pelletier, the 15-year old girl in Massachusetts, and then said: “I know that this nation exists by the providence of [God’s] hand, and if this nation forgets our God, then God will have every right to forget us.  I hope that we repent before we ever have to receive his fiery judgment.”

We have been born for such a time as this. Now is the time to stand strong. America must not die on our watch.
